Locksmith Edinburgh - Edinburgh

78 Ratcliffe Terrace, Edinburgh, Scotland EH9 1ST

16-12-2010

When my Great Aunt taught me how to tie my shoelaces at the age of 17 (my age, not hers) she declared I was a “late bloomer”. Quite what she would say of the gentleman serving at Locksmith of Edinburgh who, at the age of 48 (yes, I asked) has yet to learn this once-cherished skill, I will never know.

“Velcro doesn’t count.” were my parting words.

Furious.

RichardEaves Keep taking the tablets.

Jack Wills - Edinburgh

49 Hanover Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 2PJ

02-05-2010

I was deeply disappointed with my first, and only, visit to Jack Wills. I’d heard this place stocked garments of only the finest quality and I spent an inordinate amount of money on a sweatshirt that, at first glance, appeared to meet my expectations. However, when I got my purchase home I found to my dismay that it had the word “Spiderman” emblazoned over the back shoulders. Classy? I think not.

Nutkins Pet Store - London

47 Station Road, London SM2 6DF

19-04-2010

The last time I was in south London was several years ago but I made sure to pop in to this place to pick up some supplies for Sheila. At the time there was a great delicatessen close by (great carrot-cake, very reasonably priced). I suspect the association with Terry Nutkins is an urban myth but ALL myths have a huge slice of truth to them; make of that what you will.

ferry road bus stop - Leith

186 ferry road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH6 4NW

14-04-2010

What's all the fuss about a bus stop? As far as I'm concerned there is far too much poo-poo lying about here, which really leaves a nasty taste in your mouth considering the amount of tax I pay.

Tonic - Edinburgh

34a North Castle Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 3BN

09-04-2010

Toni C’s is a splendid little beverage emporium. The cocktails are truly deluxe (primo). When you ask for a cocktail at some lesser establishments you often receive a glass of what looks (and tastes) suspiciously like Barry Scott’s Cillit Bang, but not at Toni C’s where the quality is second-to-none. However, steer clear of his confectionaries; half a pound of mutton-like cake is not what I would describe as a ‘delicate sponge’.

Hectors - Edinburgh

47-49 Deanhaugh St, Edinburgh, Scotland EH4 1LR

08-04-2010

My first visit to Hectors' was after I fell over while out walking in Stockbridge. My cousin dragged me inside to cheer me up. I suppose it worked; the place had vaguely comfortable seats, the staff certainly served drinks when required and the patrons (while having the occasional 'dandy' among them) were boisterous in an entertaining and unusual way. All in all, I would go back...although hopefully I won't fall over again (in Stockbridge anyway)!

Douglas's Bakery - Edinburgh

105 Leith Walk, Edinburgh, Scotland EH6 8NP

18-01-2010

The second you enter Douglas's Bakery it's Treat O'Clock. They'd been telling me for years 'have yourself a tasty treat', but I had no idea what they meant. Soon I realised; it was this place's pineapple cakes, cream buns, wet fudge crabs and vanilla de la slices they referred to. However, I can't give Douglas a full 5 out of 5 because I realise and accept that some people are not fans of sticky bun-type snacks, are on healthy diets or even have allergies. Douglas's Bakery would be the last place they would want to go, so only 4 out of 5. Also, you sometimes get feathers on your boots from the nearby pigeons.

Jazz Bar - Edinburgh

1a Chambers Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1HR

07-11-2009

I saw Sweet Cherie Bakewell do a fantastic rendition of Scream A Song Of Sixpence here a year or so ago - I was ill but my friends had a great night.

ideal bed company - Edinburgh

179 Gorgie Road, Near Tynecastle Football Stadium, Edinburgh, Scotland EH11 1TT

27-10-2009 (updated on 07-11-2009)

Don't let the name put you off - this is actually a very well-put-together little outfit. They have beds, mattresses, pillows; you name it. The price is reasonable, which was also a nice surprise because , let's face it, companies like this really have you over a barrel. All in all, this is the perfect bed company. In fact, I'd go as far to say that this is the ideal bed company ;-)

Tie Rack - Edinburgh

116 Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 3AA

19-10-2009

Aagh, save us all from Tie Rack and their pushy staff! I was in once, to buy a tie for a friend, and this pushy salesman (who was twice as tall as me) practically forced me to buy this incredibly stupid blue tie for myself as well as the one for my friend. It was extremely expensive and I'm sorry but I just won't be going back to Tie Rack, or not to the one on Princes Street anyway.
