John E Carter - Darlington

56 Yarm Road, Darlington DL1 1XQ

This butchers as been around as long as I can remember, it has recently been took over but the concept and quality as remained the same. It is popular with locals and they also seems to be someone in buying something when you go. It sell a wide range of things from your usual joints and steaks, to cooked meat too. It has a wide range of pies and quiches and if you are wanting buffet food the corned beef and poatato squares are particulary good value - a full tray being around £6. It has also started to sell fresh sandwichs and hot chickens. The staff are friendly and you can pre order items.

Teesside Koi - Thornaby-on-Tees

orde winggate way, Stockton-on-Tees TS19 0GD

22-01-2009

Excellent place to go if you have koi carp or are thinking about keeping them. I think this is probably the best koi specialist in this region and it is the largest too. Its a family run business and is super friendly. They have a good selection of koi to buy and will let you know if you are after a fish when some are due in and are ready to buy. They also sell everything connected to keeping fish including food, pumps and filters. They also sell coldwater and tropical fish. Its in a unit not far from stockton centre and there is car parking to the front.

Minus 5 - Auckland

Princes wharf, Auckland

22-01-2009

This is a bit pricey for the amount of time you can spend inside but it is absolutly worth it. Minus 5 is a ice bar, with everything made of ice right down to the glasses. This was the first ice bar in the world but now I am led to believe that there are a few of them. It cost roughly £15 per person included, in the price is entry, coats and golves, and 1 drink - vodka. You can buy more drinks if you want but on average you can only stay in about 30 minutes so you wont be in there all night. The bar is only small so only a limited amount of people can be in at one time so you might have to queue. Its really cool inside with lots of ice sculptures and good lighting, you can really get some excellent photos. The staff were super friendly and I cant wait to go back.

culvers - Minneapolis

This is a burger chain of restaurants in minneapolis that are excellent value a with quality food. It also does pork chicken and fish dishes apart from your usual burger. Its decorated blue and white with bright clean tables and extremely friendly staff, it is also very family friendly too. Every thing is cooked fresh to order and they always use fresh meat 100% beef fillet and I think this is one of the reasons this place stands out from the rest. They do really good burgers. Once you have purchased your food the staff will bring it to your table, drinks are help yourself to how many times you want all you do is purchase a cup. If your looking for a fast food joint thats different from the rest -this is a must try.

Camira - Sydney

Once again this system will not let me put in Airlie beach? Anyway Camira is a catamaran in Airlie Beach which provides day trips to the whitsunday Islands, which is a must for any traveller touring the east coast of Australia. Its not cheap but included in the price is free drinks (including alcohol) lunch, snacks during the day, and use of equipment for snorkelling. Its more popular to visit the whitsundays over three days but if you are pushed for time I think this is the only boat that will get you there and back in one day. The staff seemed friendly and it was a added bonus that when we went the boat was less than half full, so there was plenty of room to move about. You visit whitehaven beach then go snorkelling at several sites before heading back, I did not go snorkelling but my OH was dissappointed with this. Overall a great day.

alisha66 I personally feel you select a best place to visit. The Airlie beach is the gateway to a Whitsunday Island holiday. Being a Queenslander, Natalie Gruzlewski is quite understandably biased about how much beauty there is to enjoy on the islands. Australia is home to some of the best holiday spots and the beaches in Australia.

Shotover - Perth

This is a fantastic experience in monkey mia. (have had to put perth down as the location because for some reason it wont let me do anything else) Its a large sailing catamaran that takes you to see dolphins, sharks and dugongs. They provide you with plenty of factor 50 sun lotion, fantatsic eye protection and lots of knowledge about the wildlife. When we went we saw quite a few dugongs and turtles but what shocked me was the 6ft tiger shark, just how close to the beach it was! The water is crystal clear you could see it perfect and it was amazing to see such an animal in the wild. Its not a cheap excursion but absolutely worth the money.

This place is in shark bay in western Australia - but I have had to put that its in perth as this system will not accept anywhere near to where it actually is. Anyway Monkey Mia is a must for anyone travelling to western Oz. Theres not much there apart from a resort on the beach, but you come here purely to see the sealife. Everyday wild dolphins come into the shore to 'mingle’ with humans, it is quite amazing how these wild animals do this, and nobody seems to know why they do. You could be swimming and a dolphin will just pass you by, anywhere else in the world you will have to pay a fortune to do this - here its totally free. They also have a small feeding area where they feed several dolphins if you are lucky you might get choosen to do this - once again totally free.
The rooms in the resort are quite pricey but there are plenty of pitches to hook up your camper van or you could rent a caravan.

Jailhouse restaurant - Skiathos

Skiathos

21-01-2009

This restaurant is situated over looking the harbour in skiathos. Not all of the tables have a harbour view but if you prebook early enough you will able to ask for one. Jailhouse is run by british people and serves a good selection of food including European, Greek, Thai and Japanese. I went for the steak, it was cooked perfect and served with potatoes. Its not cheap but I believe you do get what you pay for. The staff are friendly, its undercover but it has a outdoor feel to it with trees around the dining area. Its at the end of the harbour just look out for the black sign to guide you.

Banana Beach - Skiathos

Skiathos

This is a beach near koukounaries. You use the same bus stop as koukounaries but when you get off turn right and then you will see a sand dirt track. This is the way to banana beach it takes about 15 minutes to walk with some parts uphill. You can get great views at the top of the coastline. Its only a small beach and also a nudist beach! the nudists tend to stay at one end away from the main part. Again like koukounaries sunbeds are side by side, there is a snack/burger bar, and toilets. But the main reason you would come here is to watch the sunset, its the best place on skiathos to watch it and there is a nice area where you can sit and have a drink, and thats the reason it gets 3 stars.

This is supposed to be voted in the top ten beaches in the world, which might of been true over 10 years ago but now today I really cant see that. Its in a nice curved bay with lots of green trees set behind the beach with the blue sea clear which gently slopes that makes it good for children. Having said that it is overcrowded, sunbeds side by side, dirty and well flogged. It has got toilets, small kiosks selling water/sweets and several eating places that sell burger and chips, rather than a nice taverna selling greek food. Its part of a national park but its free entry. You can get there using a local bus and its the very last stop on the route.
