Bengal Brasserie - York

Bengal Brasserie is an Indian restaurant located in the centre of York. It's quite a nice Indian - I have tried a lot as I really enjoy this kind of food so my standards have become quite high. I never order anything too adventurous, but my korma, onion bahjis and naan bread were really nice last time I went! I have only been once but would go again. Price wise it was about average.

Costcutter - York

Costcutter is a friendly little shop round the corner from me which sells basic groceries and things like alcohol and magazines. They open till about 9pm so it's a handy shop for last minutes things which I forgot to buy (or for a cheeky bottle of wine on an evening!) They only downside is you can only pay on your card if you spend a fiver which has stopped me buying things from there on a few occasions when I've just wanted a bottle of water and magazine for instance.

Sainsbury's Local - York

This is one of the now little Sainsburys which used to be a Jacksons until they were bought by Sainsbury's. This particular one is in Clifton and is a useful little shop as it opens quite late (about 11pm) and has a cash machine. They sell a smaller selection of the usual Sainsbury's stock although it is a bit pricey (I always think Sainsbury's is a bit though.) The only thing I don't like about this shop is that it isn't in the best area and there are often people hanging outside in groups which can be a little intimidating.

Natwest - York

Its really handy having a little Natwest bank around the corner although it only opens till about 2pm so im normally at work during the opening hours. Its a nice little bank though as its friendly and looks more like a little house than a branch of a big banking chain!

Frier Tucks - York

I treated myself to fish and chips this weekend and went to friar tucks for them as i could smell them from my house and it was too tempting. They were worth it though as they were proper tasty fish and chips and some of the best ive had in ages!

Another of my new local shops, this coop is a handy little shop for picking up a few groceries. it is a little more expensive than the big supermarkets but good when i just want one or two items. They sell basic groceries, alcohol, magazines, tobacco and confectionary.

Boots the Chemist - York

This is now my local chemist and i popped in for some painkillers the other day. Being a small boots chain it is quite pricey and they seem to mainly sell the more premium brands. however the lady in there was nice and helpful and they had a decent range of things.

N-Joy - York

I have been to N'Joy once and I got a calzone. It was pretty nice and averagely priced. I would go again but it's not really local to me and it didn't stand out as being anything better than other takeaways in York so not worth going out of my way for. Not bad though and the staff were nice enough.

Cooplands - Leeds

I popped in here for a pasty when I was in Leeds for an interview and it was tasty, cheap, and the service was friendly. I was tempted to go back for more but thought I probably shouldn't as it wasn't the healthiest food choice! Yummy though and they sell a wide range of hot food and desserts to take away (there were also a few bar stools in the window with a small bar type area to sit at.)

John Green Agreed about Pasties, Roger…but I do have a weakness for a good sausage roll!! Oh yes…let’s not forget Melton Mowbray Pork Pies, Homemade steak and kidney pudding, (just like your Mother used to make)!!!! A proper steak and kidney pie and just about ANYTHING in FRESH BREAD!!!

Peter Rabbit & Friends - York

This is such a lovely shop which sells Peter Rabbit merchandise including books and soft toys, and figurines and presents for babies and children. They sell not only Peter Rabbit items but also the other characters such as my favourites Jemima Puddle Duck and Mrs Tiddlywink! The stuff in there is so nice and really reminds me of childhood, I love going in there for a look. I never buy anything as it's not exactly cheap and I can't justify it at all!
