Glasgow Hilton International - Glasgow
1 William Street, Glasgow, Scotland G3 8HT

I stayed here last week on a business trip and was impressed with the overall look of the hotel as well as the efficency of the staff.
Our company had taken over many conference/ball rooms throughout the day, as well as hotel rooms in the evening. My room situated on the 8th floor had a view of the M8 but was suprisingly quiet. My room had a very nice bathroom (shower over the bath), mini bar, tea and coffe amking facilities, trouser press, safe, desk, sofa, flat screen tv, Mp3 radio etc. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was of a high standard. Check in and check out was very easy.
Breakfast was served in the Minskys restaurant which offered a very large choice on fruit juices and hot drinks, English and continental breackfast (large choice on bread and crossants etc).
Our conference during the day was broken up with refreshments. Coffee, tea and water was in constant supply, our lunch was very nice consisting of a buffet of mainly cold pieces. All the food was to a very high standard. Our evening meal, served in the ball room was excellent.
The Hilton staff made our very long day enjoyable.

I have not made it to the actual store on the London Road, but deliver to my place of work. In my humble opinion, they offer the best sandwiches and rolls delivered to offices in Southend. There is always a really good choice on fillings, lovely crusty bread. They carry a range of other snacks to the offices they deliver to, excellent friendly service.

Limited sandwich choice, dodgy smelling food. They deliver to the office I work in and is the trolley to miss. They are the cheapest option, but I have to say, I would rather go hungry or wait for a competitor.

I have always viewed this store as waiting to go bust, the decor is so outdated, along with the stock. However this christmas I braved the crowds and was pleasantly surprised by their christmas present range this year. They were very reasonably priced and offered discounts to compare to other high street stores.
Still the grandmother of the high street, it still is well loved.

B & Q - Southend-on-Sea
Fossetts Drive, Fossetts Park, Southend-on-Sea SS2 4DQ
31-12-2008
I frequent this branch of B & Q. The sheer enormity of the store means that there is normally plenty of stock in each section (lots of take away bathroom set etc). There is a large garden/outdoor area and a substantial building yard for builders supplies. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The car park is enourmous with lots of disabled spaces near the front of the store. There is also a small cafe and vending machines. This store is open later than most stores - 9pm most evenings (Monday - Friday), 8pm and 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays respectively
The Pink Toothbrush - Rayleigh
19-23 High Street, Rayleigh, Essex SS6 7EW

(updated on 30-12-2008)
The Pink Toothbrush is in the main an alterncative music club. On a Friday night (when I went) there is club XFM which is alternative, metal, indie music. The club has two bars and a small dancefloor. In the main it does need a face lift as it appears a bit grotty (but this is part of its charm!). its £5 on the door before 10pm and £6 after. Saturday nights is indie/dance night.
Drinks are reasonably priced. This club has the 'my feet are sticking to the floor’ ambiance!
There is a 'smoking area’ outside and you have to pay for a smoking band priced at £1 - this is meant to go to charity. Cloakroom costs £1 also.
If you are used to smart night clubs, this wouldn’t be for you. However those that enjoy alternative music then this place is a good night out.
Maison Renouf - Southend-on-Sea
Bradley Way, Rochford, Southend-on-Sea SS4 1BU

Wonderful stay, good sized and decorated rooms. The hotel has a small bar area and dining room. There is also a small but well equipt gym for residents. The hotel hire out for weddings and have a wonderful wedding brochure. There is a conservatory overlooking the hotel grounds.
Advantage to buffet style coffee machine and light snacks on the main landing.
The dining room is intimate and had the best fillet steak I have ever eaten! Would definately recommend to stay at Maison Renouf.

Foundary tyres is situated to the rear of the Foundary Business Park, near Hockley train station.
Foundary tyres offers a friendly local service. They hold a large stock of tyres and a speedy delivery of anything not in stock. The staff are often open to negotiation on price, which is always welcome. Foundary tyres are open until 12pm on a Saturday morning. Parking can be a little limited on the bussiness park.
Bakers Oven - Rayleigh
81 High Street, Rayleigh, Essex SS6 7EJ
12-12-2008
(updated on 30-12-2008)
This Bakers Oven is situated in the middle of the main high street and offers both take away and sit in options. There are a small number of table and chairs to the rear.
Updated decoration is a good edition however, when I visited the seated area was untidy. I would recommend take out rather than eat in. However, I agree this is handy for take away pasties, sausage rolls and sandwiches and a good selection of cakes and pastries at a reasonable price. They are competitive on price to the bakers opposite.
