Union Bar - Paddington
4 Sheldon Square, Paddington, London W2 6EZ
20-11-2008
This is a modern bar in a residential / business quarter around a 5-10 minutes walk from Paddington Station. Its not that easy to find -but is closest to the Hammersmith and City Line, down the canal. Its a modern bar which gets very busy during evenings after work. It appears in essence to be designed as a kind of wine bar and the prices are higher end for pubs - the service is adequate, thats it, as it is just so busy after work. There is lots of outdoor space and the space for a bar which I havent seen used. In essence, if you have an hour or so to while away in Paddington its ok - otherwise I would not rush after 5pm - its just too busy.
London City airport - London
Royal Docks, London E16 2PB
20-11-2008
Do airports get any better than this? Firstly, it has a Docklands Light Railway built into the terminal. Second, it has a very short check in time, around 20 minutes before the flight departure. Recently, the departure lounge has been renovated and I had to pinch myself to think I wasnt in either a five star hotel or an executive lounge. There were lots of leather seats, sofas and stools, built in modern style. The depature gates were also very trendy with clever use of stools in the dparture gates as opposed to seats. The arrivals process is also very swift and you can be on the docklands light railway in ten minutes. A very customer friendly experience. Recommended.
Stansted Airport - Stansted
Bassingbourn Road, Stansted, Essex CM24 1SF
20-11-2008
I remember when Stansted Airport was alot quieter - and alot more customer focussed. The airport has a number of bottle necks and I would strongly recommend online check in if possible. Firstly - all car parks except the short stay are a bus ride away. The long stay car park is a fair distance away by bus. The departure lounge does seem to be limited in places to have a drink and most people converged on the large bar at the end of the departure lounge which meant for long queues. They really should have more choice of places to eat and drink. There was a small bar and coffee shop in the satellite building and I would recommend doing your shopping in the main terminal then going to the satellite for a drink or somethign quick to eat - you’ll also be close to your gate too. This has now become a very busy airport and the arrivals procedure can take some time if alot of flights land at the same time
Grande Bretagne - Athens
Constitution Square, 10563 Athinai
20-11-2008
I had an amazing spa experience here. The spa is located in the lower ground floor of the Grande Bretagne and was welcomesand taken to the dressing area. Theres also a swimming pool in this area. There was opportunity to have teas and fruit infusions for free before the treatment. The treatment room was amazing - was really looked after and had a wonderful massage using great oils etc. After the treatment I was invited to a relaxation room where more tea was offered and the throughout the whole experience I was treated like royalty and I only wish I could afford a full body massage at Grande Bretagne more often. I thought the thalosotherapy areas looked completely amazing and will return just to experience them alone.
Greenwich Foot Tunnel - Greenwich
Cutty Sark Gardens, Greenwich, London SE10 9HT
20-11-2008
I agree with the previous reviewer and am unsure why anyone would choose to visit greenwich for this. I understand that many years ago it was the only way to get from one side of the river to Greenwich, but the Docklands Light Railway now does the job. However, to be honest, it is a short walk from Greenwich to the Isle of Dogs and it doesnt take very long at all. Entrance in Greenwich is right near the Cutty Sark so you end up right in the middle of things. Parking at the weekend on the Isle of Dogs is easier than Greenwich so this might be an option then walk through the foot tunnel….just a thought ;-)
Royal Albert Hall - Knightsbridge
Kensington Gore, South Kensington, London SW7 2AP
20-11-2008
Im not sure whether its because I am not exactly short or small, but I have had mixed experiences of the Royal Albert Hall. The seats in the upper circle area have been in my opinion rather uncomfortable (older, upholstered seats) and the legroom rather limited. Views tend to be good with the exception of those which are close to the organ which sometimes have limited views. There are limited bars and restaurants in the venue and we experienced our most expensive bag of crisps ever there! Location isnt exactly next to a tube which is not so good in the rain. Its an amazing place and one to visit at leaast once, though its food offerings and costs are expensive.
Columbia Road Flower Market - Shoreditch
Columbia Road, London E2 7RG
20-11-2008
This is a wonderful experience for any visitor or resident of London. Its location is a little off the beaten track and its not especially close to any tube station. Be warned though, car parking is limited, especially on street and the enforcement officers are very vigilant! The market runs on sunday morning and the later the day (think early afternoon) the cheaper the flowers tend to be. I have created some very amazing flower arrangements at home with very unusual flowers thanks to Columbia Road. In spring especially the flowers are amazing. Its got busier over the year but the benefit is that more food shops have opened up in the area making this an even more enjoyable experience!
Virgin Active Health Club - London
West Ferry Circus Canary Wharf, London E14 8RR
20-11-2008
This is so much more than a health club - its an entire community and experience. Think about it as a very well equipped gym, plus amazing pool and wonderul spa plus classes and a cafe too. Dont get me wrong - its not the cheapest health club in the city but then it is next to the Four Seasons Canary Wharf. I expecially like the spa area which is simply one of the best in a health club in the city - and all the members area - right doen to the dressing rooms - feel very classy with very nice furniture. The only downside is the fact that there isnt free car parking, but the upside is that it is only a stones throw from the thames clipper pier. The infinity swimming pool overlooking the thames in amazing!
Village - Soho
81 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1D 6BD
20-11-2008
This is an old stale of the mixed / gay soho scene and has morphed through different looks and feels over the years. Its a really friendly bar and one which attracts a nice group of customers and has much less of the attitude attached to some of the other bars very close by. Its on a couple of levels but my favourite is the ground floor near the main entrance, especially during the evening when its not too busy and has a very nice, almost cozy feel. Very recommended for its location, vibe and customers ;-)
Opal - Temple
Hungerford House Victoria Embankment, London WC2N 6PA

I love this bar! It managed to be different things to different people, which is probably achieved by the different levels and a few nooks and crannies which are unique to this old building built in what is effectively a couple of basements. The range of drinks is adequate and the prices non too prohibitive for somewhere located next to the river thames and literally next to a tube station. I like the lower floor with its DJ area and also some of the quieter areas around the stairs. Gets quite busy after work with a nice bunch of customers. Well recommened for a quick drink or two after work and close to the tourist stuff too.
