Louth Sub Post Office - Louth
25b Northgate, Louth, Lincolnshire LN11 0LT
29-03-2012
This Post Office is adequate in some ways. Unfortunately some of the staff are unfriendly and worse still, they continually try to encourage you to send items by the very expensive and often unnecessary Special Delivery as they clearly make much more money if you do. They have a number of “approaches” to try to achieve this, so be careful!
Louth Family Dental Practice - Louth
23 Queen Street, Louth, Lincolnshire LN11 9BJ

A relation of mine was treated at this practice and was stunned by the dreadful and expensive “service” provided by the staff, from receptionist to dental nurse, to dentist. There are no redeeming comments to make. I have only given one star as I’m unable to give none. Avoid at all costs.
Morrisons - Louth
150 Eastgate, Eastgate, Louth, Lincolnshire LN11 9AB

Morrisons in Louth has made a broadly positive impression since the store was taken over from Somerfield a couple of years ago, and have definitely improved it. There's a good selection of food and drink across the board for a small town store, and although the majority of Louth people do their "main" shopping in Grimsby/Cleethorpes, the store attracts a good number of people, often buying "convenience" items. Although shopping in Grimsby/Cleethorpes is generally cheaper, the only comparable competition in Louth is more expensive overall. The quality of staff in the store is extremely inconsistent, varying from dreadful to excellent. One criticism of Morrisons on a national basis is that their "offers" tend to be on junk food a disproportionate amount of the time, and this is true here too! The opening hours are good, and could become more extensive in the future.

This venue has no been demolished and is now a pile of rubble. No doubt to be replaced by housing before long. So I suggest you don't pay a visit...
McDonald's Restaurants - Grimsby
42-44 Victoria Street, Grimsby DN31 1DG

One of the worst branches of McDonald's I've ever come across. You are made to wait in a queue even when quiet as there regularly aren't enough staff on. There are a few staff there who are lacking in basic manners, or in some cases are abrupt and obstructive. The portions are often noticeably smaller than at other branches. The one plus side is that it is usually kept relatively tidy. Best avoided.

I've been here many times down the years (as my father did before me) and it provides an impressive, courteous service with the minimum of fuss. You can normally drive straight in and be dealt with without waiting long, with drinks and papers while you wait. They always do a good job at a reasonable cost. My only slight bugbear is that they tend to charge more at the Louth branch than at Grimsby, where there is more competition. I'd recommend them!
Value For Money - Louth
18 New Market Hall, Market Place, Louth, Lincolnshire LN11 9NS
21-09-2009
A couple runs Louth’s “Value for Money” from a cramped unit within the Market Hall. The shop offers a mixture of food/drink, household items, toiletries and other miscellaneous items. In general, the prices are no better than can be found elsewhere, even in Louth, and are often more expensive. Remarkably, it is not even unusual to see items far cheaper at other branches of “Value for Money”; I recently saw exactly the same item at 80p in the Louth branch and 30p in another branch. Louth shoppers are clearly regarded as affluent and gullible.
Within the food and drink, there is a mix of items that are “in date”, together with some that are past their “best before” date, sometimes by as much as two years! Very occasionally you’ll find a bargain (more by accident than design on their part I suspect), and sometimes there’s the odd niche product that’s difficult to obtain elsewhere, or is a cost effective alternative. The pricing can be very inconsistent and illogical whilst other items have no price shown at all. After all, if the price weren’t a consideration, you wouldn’t be in the shop! At other times there is only a price shown for bulk buys, not ideal when you only want one or two. You feel reluctant to ask, as they don’t give the impression of being very approachable. They don’t even bother to routinely provide a receipt.
All in all, if you have the time, dedication and patience to wait for the chance to save a few pence every so often, it might be worth a look. If however, you have a life, you’re best advised to keep walking.
