If you’re looking for that place where you can have a quiet meal or breakfast, I will truly recommend Royale Café. From the outside, you’ll either not notice it or dismiss it for this posh tea room. Well, take a risk. Enter. You’ll be glad you did.
The ambiance is cozy. The terrace at the back is to die for, specially now, during Spring and Summer.
The food and drinks is excellent and at great value.
I’ll be there frequently. Specially for those breakfast scones.

Just came from my vacation in London, having stayed at the Tavistock.
This is a very peculiar hotel. It offers great value as long as you don’t have very high expectations.
First of all, it’s central. A mere 10 minute walk to Oxford Street. 30 minutes to Buckingham Palace (I might be a very fast walker).
Second, it’s clean and cozy. The make your beds and replace your towels every day. They give you a complimentary coffee and tea packs every day too.
Third, it’s cheap. I payed 67 € per twin per night, with Continental breakfast included. Myself, I’m not a big fan of the English breakfast, so it was more than fine.
They offer free wifi in the lobby. Beware of the chaos at breakfast. Ask the staff what you’re entitled in order to have a good meal without worries.
I’m sure I’ll be back one of these days.

Monumento Nacional de Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caídos

Valle de los Caídos is a very unorthodox landmark just north of Madrid. It has a huge symbolism in Spanish history, due to its connection to the dictator Franco (he’s actually buried on site).
But it’s also an architectural wonder that will amaze those of us who actually love this type of buildings.
Did you see Lord of the Rings ? Did the buildings in those movies seemed astonishing ? Then you have to visit this landmark.
You enter the monument through its surrounding natural park. You start driving up and notice a huge cross on top of a peak. Suddenly you see a huge square and this monumental entry. And you think it’s cute. And then you realize, that the monument is within the mountain.
It’s enormous. Three huge halls that lead to the central basilica. You think that you’ve entered a movie set. You really do.

If you’re looking for an ecological supermarket that is friendly, very complete and well located, I trully recommend El Vergel. The restaurant below was packed, so I can only speak of the supermarket.
You’ll find anything and everything, appealing to all tastes. I was surprised at the low cost of some items and the staff was very friendly in answering any questions.

The Associação 25 de Abril is a non-profit association created by the military participants of the April 25th revolution here in Portugal.
It has a delightful restaurant on the first floor (a gallery and conference space on the ground floor) in which you can appreciate a very quiet dinner in one of Lisbon’s busiest neighborhoods (Bairro Alto).
Pricing is very satisfying for the quality of the menu. Service is pleasant and the combination of these two allow for a night dinner well spent.
