Red Lion - North Terminal - London Gatwick

Not nearly as bad as it could be: not nearly as good as it should be. The only place in Gatwick where you can get a decent pint (and the choice of beers is generally pretty good) but much too prone to filling up with teams of drunken stag weekenders and often so busy it resembles a tube train at rush hour.

bona fide KFC experience: high saturated fat sold by teenagers rigidly following a script. Ideal for the morning after and the coffee is pretty good to be fair.

consistency is the watchword for the Variety Bar; it may well not have changed ever. Great tunes, servicew, beer, and food

George Hotel - Inveraray

Main St East, Inveraray, Highlands and Islands PA32 8TT

The excellent food in the George is still compromised by the tardy service. We ate there last week and, although our table was booked for 8, our main course didn't arrive until 9.50. Two other tables came in after us and were served and left before we had finished our meal. Its such a shame because the George does so much right - the food is good, the choice of beers wide, and prices are reasonable.

As a hotel it is hard to beat. As a restaurant it is hard to recommend.

YO! Sushi - House of Fraser Glasgow - Glasgow

A poor approximation of sushi restaurant situated in a department store. Serves what appears to be chicken nugget maki. Exactly.

noisy air con fans but otherwise your standard Pret experience.

The Finnieston Bar - Glasgow

1125 Argyle Street, Glasgow, Scotland G13 4

Recommended to us but in truth somewhat underwhelming. Busy and welcoming and full of diners. Those wanting simply to have a drink are not well catered for with tiny tables shoved in the corner between the gas fire and the (overloud) speakers. Perhaps it would be more enjoyable if you were visiting for a meal.

The barmaid was downright unhelpful and for a real ale pub knew bugger all about the wares.

Oko Express - Glasgow

Newly opened (2012) branch of Glasgow sushi outlet Oko. Canteen style so plain and simple decor. No drinks licence yet but can bring your own and no corkage. Menu will be familiar to anyone who has eaten at a noodle bar before and the food was first class. Everything cooked to order with fresh and tasty ingredients. Service was fine and our meal was very good value.

Highly recommended.

I love Cordings old world charm. It's always on my list of shops to visit when I'm in London.

Wagamama - Glasgow

97 West George Street, silverburn shopping centre, Glasgow, Scotland G2 1PB

I'm not sure what it is about Wagamama it's just somehow less than it once was. Less choice on the revised menu, less tasty dishes, less interesting experience, less different, just generally LESS. Sure the dishes are always fresh and it remains good value for money but it seems to have morphed from a cool, urban, oriental experince into eating a glorified pot noodle in the student canteen.

I know Wagamama is all about relaxed informal dining but honestly, can people not even take off their skanky beanies when they're eating? Yuck.
