Mary Poppins Cleaning - Wickwar

Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire GL12 8NB

03-02-2013

Had this cleaning company to help me out for a few weeks during a very busy period. They didnt stay for the full time eg paid for 2 hours and she left after 1.5hrs. The bedroom was dusted and vacuumed ok the bathroom was not good enough the bath was not cleaned at all and the shower only half done. Hoovering was generally good as was floor washing. Dusting was the front only nothing moved to clean the back of shelves, windowsills, etc.
Bottom line is OK for a helping hand with the cleaning when u are busy - but no good for a thorough clean that u rely on without doing some yourself.

This is a private dentist but well worth it. I went there as an emergency patient a few years ago. Its friendly very efficient and the dentist is kind and caring. First class treatment I would definately recommend it.

I really used to like this dental surgury as the staff are very friendly especially the receptionists and the dentists were nice too. They made me feel at home and comfortable which is not easy in my case as Im dental phobic.

HOWEVER
I have just experienced the worst dental treatment that I have ever had in my entire life. The young female dentist – I will call her K – took 2 xrays and told me I needed an extraction as tooth had decay under the fillings. Fair enough.
She put in 3 injections then 2 minutes later asked if it was numb – not at all at least nowhere near the tooth just a bit on my cheek not even the tongue!!!
So she put in 3 more injections and I slightly lost feeling in the corner of my jaw again nowhere near the tooth. Then she started to loosen the tooth but when I told her I could feel it she put in another 3 injections – Yes we are up to 9 now. And only one side of the tooth was numb! So then she put in another 3 injections and got it right. She told me everybodys anatomy is different! Um yes but I have had extractions and fillings all my life – at least 30 different treatments and I have never ever had to have a repeat injection – they always work first time ………………………
Then she decided to take another xray and proceeded to attempt to remove the tooth. She was unsucessful and had to use a drill to separate the roots. Took it out in four pieces. She was very surprised it had 3 roots instead of 2 – perhaps she cant read the 3 xrays very well. It took her over an hour to remove this one tooth. Then she gave me a gauze to bite on – and took it out 2 minutes later (not sure but I think its supposed to be 20 minutes to stop bleeding anyway I was pouring with blood for 4 hours) and sent me home And do u know what she said to me “You are doing really well you can have a sticker!”
I almost said “you are doing really c—- perhaps you should return to dental college” but I didnt cause I’m a nice person and she was nice to me.

The bottom line is 12 Injections, 3 xrays, an hour to remove a tooth – and I now have bruising from chin to end of jawline, severe swelling inside my gums, was bleeding for over 4 hours as she cut it so much and never bothered stitching. I am still in pain 3days later. If I were you I wouldn’t go to her there – I never will ever again. On a positive note I have heard that there are other male dentists there that are excellent.

Ok so we went here for a meal and it was not great. We ordered at the bar and decided to share a combo to start with and then have a steak. After over half an hour the steaks arrived. We told the waitress that we had ordered a combo to share to start and she just said it had not been on the order as a starter. She took the steaks back and brought out the combo which was really nice.
Three quaters of an hour later she brought out the steaks – now I dont know about you but medium to rare steak is not usually cooked right through and the other steak that was well done looked dried right up as did the rest of it. They had re-heated the meals due to the problem with the starter. My OH complained and so the lady who was cooking said they would cook fresh for us.
Half an hour later we heard her tell the bar maid to keep an eye on the food for our table that was cooking as she left the kitchen. So the barmaid cooked and served it to us.

It was nice when it arrived but
Nearly 3 hours for a meal
Its one thing making a mistake with an order but re-heating and trying to save money is a big No (especially with medium rare fillet steak)
No appology or any effort made to put it right
So NO we wont go again If I wanted a barmaid to cook me a meal I’d go to a pub not a restaurant.

Plantation Restaurant - Cotham

We went here for a meal this evening and the food was very well cooked. As others here have said it is expensive for a main course but the buffet is reasonable at £19.
The staff at the bar were friendly and welcoming and we were made to feel at home.
Our waitress was efficient and took the order as soon as we were ready. some of our party had the buffet and others just a main course. The buffet was ready straight away but those who had a main course from the menu were waiting a long time (1/2 hour +) for it to come. One of our party helped theirself to 2 slices of bread on the buffet table and a patt of butter while they were waiting – there was no bread on our table or on the menu to order.
The waitress came over and told them that they must not help theirself to anything on the buffet table not even the bread. So we asked for some bread and we were charged £2 for 6 slices from a french stick.
The main courses were nice and very well cooked but not really worth the price as it was not that special really.
To sum up I would say its ok to try once or twice but not as a regular eating place. The buffet is the best value.

Za Za Bazaar - Bristol

Harbourside, Canon's Road. Bristol. BS1 5UH. Tel ..., Bristol BS1 5UH

Went here last night as an adult family party of 5. Downstairs there is a large bar area with nite lights on the tables and no other lighting. This could be seen as ‘romantic’ but I personally like to see where I am and it was quite dark in there. Drinks are reasonably priced for central Bristol.

Upstairs there is a huge dining room with several stations serving different foods from around the world. It has a huge variety of dishes – you are definately spoilt for choice. Its an ‘eat as much as you like’ buffet and for the price is reasonable and good value.

The food is cooked to perfection with top chefs working very hard and tables are cleared regularly and often. Staff are friendly, welcoming and work hard to ensure that you have everything you need. However, as the place is new not all the staff are familiar with the table layout or where everything is.

The set up is so large and busy that there are queues for most of the food stations, which resulted in our food being almost cold by the time we got back to the table. Some main dishes were not available as there were quite a few empty containers around. The same with the sauces – lots had run out.

Some of the food stations were having trouble coping with the demand, especially the dessert station where queues were really long for the chocolate fountain and other desserts.

The atmosphere is extremely loud and busy – its hard to have a conversation there, so for a romantic evening out its a definate No. Likewise for a business meeting over dinner. Really we felt that it was ideal for a lunchtime meal rather than an evening dinner. We felt like we were in an overcrowded market place.

To improve it would need to make some of the food stations larger to cope with demand and employ more staff to fill up empty containers of food – one (the Teryaki chicken) was empty for over 1/2 hour as we went back twice to this – I dont think anyone noticed as the lids on containers are self closing.

All in all its top quality food cooked to perfection, and a huge selection at a reasonable price. If you can cope with the queues and noise level that is.

Castaways - Kingswood

I love this play centre as its great for little ones and older kids too. Id say it suits up to age 5 or 6. Its small enough to be friendly and you can keep a good eye on the kids but big enough so that they arent tripping over each other. Its reasonably priced with friendly staff too. They serve a variety of snacks if your little ones get hungry which is great if you want to stay out longer.
The only downside is the parking but you can usually park down the road a bit well within 50m or so. Definately a good place for mums nannies childminders and grandparents etc to take the little ones - they love it.

We went here as the local pub had football on and Hubby cant stand football! I had seen this restaurant lots of times but had never gone in before.

We were greeted by the waiter and shown to a very nice table for two. Within minutes we were given menues and offered to order a drink. Service was exceptional - the drinks arrived straight away. We ordered 2 chicken meals in sauces with chips and salad.

The meals arrived in less than 10 minutes and looked lovely, with the chips and salad served on separate plates. Sauces were really good and the chicken cooked perfectly. The waiter offered black ground pepper or any other sauces etc. Five minutes later the waiter was there asking if everything was Ok When we finished our drinks the waiter was there again asking if we wanted another. It was all really good with a nice large chicken breast portion. When we finished we asked for the bill and it came straight away.

Meals are medium priced with chicken at around £14 with veg/chips and salad. Definately well worth the money.

This is really good food, with fantastic old fashioned caring service from the staff. We would definately go again and would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Avon Valley Railway - Bitton

Bitton Station, Bristol BS30 6HD

24-12-2010

We went on the Santa Special at the Avon Valley railway this year. The trains are steam trains that interested enthusiasts have restored. It was a bit like stepping back in time as we entered the station with a coal fire burning brightly in the station booking office area and a lovely Christmas tree.
The train journey was around an hour long with Santa's elves serving mince pies and biscuits to us and Father Christmas talking to all the children and giving them all a very nice present.
However, it was absolutely freezing cold on the train, the windows were misted up all the time and several children were whinning and crying as their hands had turned red even with gloves on. One lady near us was trying to wrap a small child's hands up in a hat. Our two were shivering and crying as their feet and hands hurt and there was no heat at all on the train which with the temperature in minus figures is totally unacceptable for children and older people. For this reason we would never go again.
This is a lovely trip that was spoiled due to there being no heating whatsoever on the train and Avon Valley Railway needs to sort this out.

The Carvery Company - Bristol

Unit 1 The Venue, Bristol BS10 7SR

20-12-2010

We went here for a birthday meal a few weeks ago. It was a Saturday night but not that busy. Service was good, the waitress very attentive and came back a few times to make sure all was OK.

Positives
Great service, very reasonable price, nice decor, comfy seats, very nice desserts, and a great chicken salad

Negatives
Overcooked food especially the parsnips which had totally dried out and were rock hard. Meat was nice but the crackling for the pork was fatty and soggy no crackle there. Veg was mediocre no greens - just carrots fatty roasted veg like peppers soggy stuffing roast potatoes not quite brown enough etc

Perhaps this is why they are not that busy
Would we go again - No
We could name a few very good carverys to go to but this isnt one of them
