Roebuck Inn - Salisbury

Nice little pub in Sixpenny Handley. Traditional feel and run by a friendly, hard-working couple.

Drinks are good though there’s not a huge amount of variety. The lunch menu is pretty basic though home-made and decent quality, while the evening menu is a little more adventurous.

This place holds a place in my heart as the place where I suffered from a pneumothorax – nothing to do with the food here, I hasten to add!

Fantastic day out. There are loads of birds to see as well as reptiles. They’ve made a real effort to be educational as well. They might not be flashy but they clearly put all their resources into the birds, as they are not publicly funded. The bird shows are brilliant too – a real family friendly place.

Pizza Express Restaurants - Salisbury

50 Blue Boar Row, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP1 1DA

I’ve been to plenty of Pizza Express restaurants and this is one of the better ones. The setting is very nice, the service is quick and the staff friendly enough. The quality of the food was also pretty good – the large pizze are really large. The only slight issue was with the calamari, which, though sizzling fresh and hot, was a bit soggy. A shame, because otherwise the quality was good.

AƩroport International de Limoges Bellegarde - Limoges

What a lovely little airport! A great place to arrive for your visits to the Dordogne and surrounding region, with modern conveniences (though a little small). Pretty efficient though the waiting room can be a bit small considering all passengers from a flight need to fit in it. Nonetheless, a lovely place to fly.

National Tyres & Autocare - Oxford

302 Abingdon Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 4TE

Went to get my car's oil changed and engine flushed, and no appointment was necessary - though there could, I suppose, have been a queue of cars in front of me. In this case, there was none, and even when it turned out that they didn't have the necessary oil filter (for my unusual car), they were able to source one within half an hour and install it without probems. The service was professional, efficient, and friendly, and I'd definitely think about going back again for these routine service jobs.

G K Autos - Oxford

White House Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 4PA

11-07-2011

I'm no expert in cars, but GK Autos seems to be reliable as I know a number of people who use them regularly. I've been in once with an old banger with a dodgy radiator fan, and he was quick and efficient, even if I felt like a complete fool not being able to park the car in the tiny space with a people carrier coming one way up the road and a fire engine coming the other way!

Nonetheless, reliable and decent value.

Kwik-Fit - Headington

Took my car to have air conditioning serviced and no problems at all. They were quick, convenient, and very friendly. No problems at all - would go again for this kind of booked-in servicing.

Starbucks Coffee Co (UK) - Headington

71 London Road, Headington, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX3 9AA

Brand new branch of Starbuck's, opened quite recently. I love the coffee, and that is (consistently) good between branches, so not too much comment there. But what's great about this branch is the amount of space, and the seating available. Notably, there is a good variation of seating, including little round tables, loungy chairs and even a solid dining-room style table if you really need to spread out your work. I only popped in while my car was being serviced but it was worth it - if I lived nearby I'd be in here regularly.

Oatlands Chaser - Weybridge

Oatlands Chase, Weybridge, Surrey KT13 9RW

11-07-2011

The Chaser has done a rare thing in pub redevelopments in finding a good balance between modern and traditional. While the decor is up-to-date, they haven't gone too far and it's a good thing too as the pub has bags of character.

There is a good amount of choice on the menu and they have been adventurous in their cuisine while retaining some of the traditional pub favourites. Portion sizes are good, and they offer a 2/3 course lunch menu at good value. The breaded pork loin, however, was not entirely to my liking.

Overall, a very nice place to enjoy a meal or a drink, and were I to choose a different meal, I'm sure I'd enjoy it even more.

Fire & Stone - Oxford - Oxford

Threeways House, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 2BJ

Not really impressed. Their selling point is all sorts of wacky toppings on pizza, including potatoes, hoi sin duck, sausage and bacon, and other interesting-sounding combinations. While their originality is admirable, it doesn't really work. All you end up getting is flavours of a different culture clashing with the tomato and bread-y pizza base. The Cape Town, for example, was pepperoni and ground spicy beef. All well and good (though an interesting connection to South Africa), except it was pretty bland. The flavours were good but it just shouldn't have been served on a pizza. There are alternatives but not a huge amount of choice in the pasta department.

The place doubles up as a bar and the decor is modern and interesting. The cocktails were varied and some were certainly intriguing, but their version of a Long Island Iced Tea was distinctly substandard. All in all, not high on my places to revisit.
