tasty bites - Port William
Newton Stewart, Dumfries & Galloway DG8 6HQ
12-01-2011
When it first opened you used to be able to buy lovely generous salad baguettes, really worth popping in for.
However these days the baguettes are getting smaller and smaller and smaller!!!!! They used to be very filling but now you would be lucky if you get 1 piece of onion, cucumber etc.
We used to love going here for takeaway healthier option salad baguettes, but now the portions are so small and prices have increased, we don't bother any more.
Real shame.
We have also been given baguettes with slimey salad in occasionally too!!
Star Fish Restaurant - Stranraer
13 Charlotte Street, Stranraer, Dumfries & Galloway DG9 7EJ

(updated on 12-01-2011)
Nice place, but more cafe style than 'Resturant'
They do some lovely meals, macaroni and chips is very yummy and generous portion, the daily specials can be tasty too.
Some of the new staff are inefficient, and my mum always has a pentioners fish tea, and asked for that specifically one day, as she always has. The girl who took the order tried to say she ordered the regular fish tea and was trying to charge for the dearer meal, and was getting quite rude. Both me, and the rest of the family heard my mum ask for the 'PENSIONERS' one, eventually the manager/owner sorted it out after moaning.
mayfairmo Staff attitude at the place has greatly detriorated!!! They are so rude these days, so much so we have stopped using the cafe/restaurant.

Mayfair Amusements - Girvan
31 Knockcusan Street, Girvan, Scotland KA26 9AG
04-10-2009
Nice little arcade, good to spend an hour or so in.
Good selection of machines, games etc, and i love the Teddy grabbing machines.
Some of the teddy machines are harder to win a teddy from than others. The teddy machines are fairly empty, not stocked as well as they could be, still fun though.
My toddler son loves the teddy i managed to win there, its his favourite cuddly toy lol.
Asda Stores - Ayr
1 Liberator Drive, Ayr, Scotland KA8 9BF

Nice little Asda, sells a good selection of items from clothes, the electrical, to food.
Prices are good too.
Car park is a good size
Steam Packet Hotel - Newton Stewart
Harbour Row, Isle of Whithorn, Newton Stewart, Dumfries & Galloway DG8 8LL

The Steam Packet Hotel is a great place to eat out.
We are local so havent stayed in the hotel side of it, but the resturant is lovely.
We came for a meal for my mums Birthday back in June. (Me, my husband, my two toddlers & baby, and my mum)
The resturant is nicely laid out, smart and welcoming but not too posh.
Alastair the owner? manager? was brilliant. He Waited on us perfectly, had a laugh with my 1.5 year old who kept wanting to offer Alastair food as he went past. Not even a hint of disapproving of us turning up with 3 wee children in tow!
They gave us a wonderful big jug of iced water, and a selection of nibbles, rolls and dip to be getting on with while we waited for our meal.
The bread rolls were scrumptious! I bet they were homebaked, certainly not like something out of a supermarket packet.
My mum had the steak and it was absolutely gorgeous so she tells me. It was a decent portion size, and was cooked to perfection just like she asked.
My husband had a curry and again a decent portion for the money, he loved his meal too.
Kids loved their sausage meal, proper sausages too not cheapy rubbish.
Now im the fussy one and there wasnt anything on the menu to my taste, as im not a big meat or fish person.
There was nothing like a baked potato on the menu(yes ok so you cant take me anywhere, all the posh nosh and i wanted a spud and cheese lol). However Alastair was most acoomodating and managed to get the kitchen people to rustle me up one, if only 'Jim'll fix it' listened to my wishes as well as the Steam Packet staff did lol!
The potato didnt disappoint, it was yummy.
We enjoyed our meal and left happy and with full tummies.
We will definately be back (though perhaps hubby should leave me at home with a spud in the microwave next time for embarrasing them heehee!)
Galloway Gazette - Newton Stewart
71 Victoria Lane, Newton Stewart, Dumfries & Galloway DG8 6DA

I love reading the Galloway Gazette weekly newspaper, it keeps me in touch with all things local, news topics etc.
Sometimes the picture quality isnt as good as others, and spelling mistakes are starting creep in as well.
I often cant spell either lol, but i do think with it being a newspaper company these things should be checked better, still we are all human and prone to mistakes at times arent we lol!
Whithorn Pharmacy - Whithorn
67 ST. John Street, Newton Stewart, Dumfries & Galloway DG8 8PD
03-10-2009
Nice little pharmacy with a good selection of products, pet stuff, gifts etc.
Staff are always friendly and helpful.
The perscription dispencing side of it has become less efficient lately since it was took over.
Specsavers - Dumfries
1 The Loreburne Shopping Centre, Dumfries, Dumfries & Galloway DG1 2BD
03-10-2009
I love specsavers in Dumfries.
Great selection of glasses to cover all budgets from very basic ones to designer ranges.
They offer a whole selection of tinting, reaction coating, scratch resistance etc.
staff are professional and polite.
Store is easy to access with a wheel chair or buggy.
highly recommended and are definately our choice of optitians in the region.
Logan Botanic Garden Salad Bar - Ardwell
Stranraer, Dumfries & Galloway DG9 9ND
03-10-2009
The gardens at Logan are fantastic.
However the salad bar is very disappointing.
The choice on offer is extremely por, and what is availble is very expensive.
We wouldnt use the salad bar again.
When we visit the gardens in future will will either bring our own packed lunch to eat in the car or make sure we have eaten first, as the choice in the Salad bar is very disappointing, more so if you have children with you.
Soleburn Garden Centre - Kirkcolm
Stranraer, Dumfries & Galloway DG9 0PW

Great garden centre, good selection of plants.
They have a nice little place to get a drink and scone.
The shop part has so much on offer, everything you could think of gardening wise, plus gifts and some toys too.
