Leeds Seventeen Restaurant - Leeds

Nursery Lane, Alwoodley, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS17 7HW

06-02-2011

Found this in the Leeds Dining out guide and wanted something out of city centre. Very nice restaurant, was very homely inside. We booked our table for 7.30 and was sat down in the bar area. We waited for 10 minutes and no one asked us for drinks order or gave us a food menu to look at whilst we waited for our friends. Had to go up to the bar myself to ask and order some drinks. When my friends did arrive, they took their drink orders along with the food orders, a bit weird but they must have let us sat in the bar area for a further 15mins before we got seated. As we got seated, I thought it was because it was busy but it wasn't. Anyway portions were of adequate size and I chose the scallops on the specials board with black pudding, got 3 scallops (very nice) and 3 triangular pieces of black pudding - normally don't like black pudding but it was nice. I chose the lamb for main, and the crust was really nice, big fondont potato, regrettably we ordered 2 side dishes of chips before the 4 of us, but wish we didn't order any as we were so full. Very tender lam with a nice jus. Would definitely go back, service got better towards end of night. Would definitely recommend!

Sam's Chop House - Leeds

8 South Parade, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 5QX

27-02-2010

We went here last Tuesday with some close friends. I had booked it a fortnight earlier and mentioned it was to celebrate my Brother's birthday and it would be a party of 6. I had heard very good things about this place and that the price was reasonable. The menu had changed since I last looked at it and we were really impressed with the range. The interior of Sam's Chop House is second to none, very classy, high ceilings. I ordered the French Onion Soup and was really looking forward to it, but when they brought it over, the cheese on bread was already on top of the soup making it really soggy and I thought it was overly sweet. I would have preferred my bread on the side or just floating on top but not 'dunked'. For my main I opted for the confit of lamb and the portion was more than adequate. I had trouble finishing it, the potatoes were lovely and went well with the dish. The only gripe I have was the quaility of service was not very good, the waiters were not very attentive and they must have forgotten about my Brother's 'Birthday' as they did not acknowlede it at any time of the meal. We decided to have dessert elsewhere because the service was appalling although beware they add a 10% service charge as standard. The food was very good and a good price but service let it down.

Las Iguanas - Birmingham

Unit E203 Arcadia Centre Hurst Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 4TD

Came here on a Saturday evening. Went especially for the Paella, but unfortunately it wasn’t on the menu. Rather disappointing, instead I ordered the Zim Zim which was nice. Me and my boyfriend had 3 tapas and starters and I couldn’t finish my main in the end. Wrote to the company complaining about the Paella on the menu and got a prompt response. The operations manager even took the time out to call me to find out more about my dissatisfaction. It was all handled very well and he even sent me 20 pounds in gift vouchers so I could try the Paella next time. My ohter concern was, the music was rather loud, we had to talk above each other and the place was very stuffy!

New Samsi Japanese Resturant - Manchester

36-38 Whitworth St, Manchester, Greater Manchester M1 3NR

18-01-2009

The menu offers an array of Japanese foods. We went on the Wednesday just gone. It wasn’t very busy but the ambiance of the restaurant was very good. On the bottom floor there is a mini store where you can buy sushi ingredients, Japanese snacks and drinks as well as tea sets. I must say, some of the ingredients were over-priced, can definitely find it cheaper in a Chinese supermarket. We opted for the 9.50 sushi buffet. It’s not exactly a buffet. You can have up to 8 pieces of sushi, they should bring you 4, but they brought us 6 each (4 nigiri rolls and 2 california rolls) It also came with a standard bowl of miso soup, chicken karage (fried chicken) and 6 gyoza (fried dumplings). So far, so good, till we got to the main part of lunch, which consisted of rice, thin udon noodles, 8 generously sized teriyaki chicken with a small pork cutlet sliced into 4, with curry carelessly placed over. It was poorly presented, and it did not taste good. The ton katsu curry was 'ok’ and the teriyaki chicken was overly dry. I would definitely go back for the sushi but not for anything else.

The White House - Windermere

Robinson Place, Lowside,Bowness-On-Windermere,, Windermere, Cumbria LA23 3DQ

09-11-2008

Just came across this nice looking restaurant whilst out searching for food. Warning, if you go on a Saturday, please book in advance and this applies to any restaurant in Windermere, as each restaurant is so small, they were fully-booked. It took us an hour to search for food!

Luckily, we stayed another night and decided to go to The White House. The food, was beautiful, it was second to none!!! I had the Prawn/Crab meat stuffing (cubes on the photo). This was nicely presented, a bit too big for a started I thought but delicious. My friend had the duck pancake rolls, this was very good aswell. For mains I had the special of the night, which was grilled sea bass and potato dumplings on a bed of seasonal vegetables. I was so lucky to have this because I can honestly say, it’s the best thing I’ve had EVER, the fish was nicely grilled, and the potato dumplings complimented the meal perfectly. I don’t normally order fish, but I would strongly recommend this main if it is available! My friend had the chicken risotto, was nice also but I would go with something else! The meal was cheaper than the night before and we wasn’t even full! Look to pay about 22 pounds per person including drinks!

Shangri-La - Birmingham

51 Station Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 4DY

26-10-2008

The place is a bit rundown but the food is nic eenough and cheap too! Quite big portions, don’t go for the seafood pancake as it didn’t taste right! Overall, if there’s chinese people in this place, it can’t be bad!

The Wheatsheaf - Stanley

78 Lake Lock Road, Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF3 4HP

02-10-2008

Came here for a Xmas Roast and it was delicious. Was about 20 per head, including a starter, the roast with unlimited vegetables, dessert and coffee to finish off. The roast itself was nice and a good choice of veg with plenty of gravy. The starter menu had to be ordered prior popping in as we had to book well in advance for the busy Xmas rush. Would recommend coming here for a pre-Xmas treat!

Spice Quarter - Leeds

Electric Press Millennium Square, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS2 3AD

02-10-2008

This is defnitely for the big eaters. There’s plenty of choice from thai to chinese to indian and italian! The lunch buffet is only a fraction of the menu!

Adult Buffet starts from 12.95+

Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Cafe & Bar - Leeds

107-111 Briggate, City Centre, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 6AZ

02-10-2008

Me and my 2 friends came here for lunch one time and spent a mighty 80 pounds in one sitting, ordering just a dish each. This is very over-priced and there are limited choices on the menu. The portions are very small, aside from that, I cannot fault the taste!

Chaophraya - Leeds

20A First Floor, Blayds Court, Swinegate, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 4AG

02-10-2008

This place is quite special with its stylish interior and sheer elegance, it is great for couples on a first date. I’ve been here many a time, both at lunch times and in the evenings.

The restaurant was nominated the best in Leeds in 2007 and The Times named it in the Top 10 Thai restaurant!

I would recommend the Chaopraya special mixed appetizers (for2) which includes: Chicken satay, tiger prawns in crispy batter, fish cakes, golden bags and spring rolls at 12 pounds. They will accept one hi-life card too! So eat your heart out!
