This place is fab. I live around the corner, and my flatmate and I often go for food here. The interior is a laid back shabby chique, with mismatching chairs and there’s fab lighting.
The food is super yummy, a bit of a twist on the home comfort food thing, but with some wacky stuff in there too, like lamb’s heart. The staff are always really helpful if you can’t quite decide what to have! I can highly recommend the 3 cheese and cauliflower barley risotto. Amazing!

This is such a great place! They sell amazingly wonderful ice creams and sweeties downstairs, but if that wasn’t enough there’s a food bit upstairs that sells really good value meals. I got an all day breakfast for about £5, which is rare these days…
Bright, airy, and child friendly. Service is fast, and the food’s good value. What more could you want?
PS There’s a picture of Tony Blair here… Because he ate at Luca’s once. You can sit where he sat!

Favorit used to be one of my places to go for lunch, a snack, a coffee, or drinks late at night with some friends. And I loved it. But I think it’s gone downhill since then… The service isn’t always great, and it’s a bit pricey for what you get on your plate. I loved the old red and silver chairs that gave it a 'Diner’ feel, but now they’ve got fake brown leather ones and it just doesn’t feel the same. I’m sorry, Favorit… But you’re just not my favourite any more…

This is one of the best places to buy cards in Edinburgh, especially if you’re looking for a unique one that won’t have been sent by someone else!
If you go in thinking, 'I need to buy a card with an elephant on it’, it’ll be there. A Jack Russell? It’ll be there. A pink hand bag? It’ll be there.
I always end up buying 10 cards at a time when I only went in for one!
A little bit more expensive than some card shops, but totally worth it.

The food here is AMAZING. Like, really really good. It can be a bit pricey, but you can beat that by going at lunch time. My flatmate swears by the steak sandwich, and I loved the mussels with bacon, cream, and pinenuts. Wow, my mouth’s watering right now… Maybe it’s time for an early lunch…
The interior is relaxed, and there are lovely views from the Castle out of the back windows. The staff are a good laugh.
I’d book if you’ve got your heart set on it - it tends to fill up!

This is the place to go for all your kitchen needs. They have an amazing range, and sometimes do 3 for 2 deals on baking tins. There are also lots of ingenious gadgets to solve culinary problems you didn’t even know you had! I can also highly recommend their apple liquorice…

I have been going here ever since a friend recommended it over a year ago. The staff are lovely, and the prices are reasonable (even better with a student discount!)
They offer bridal/mother to be/holiday/stress buster packages, and can often give very last minute appointments.
Well worth a visit across town!

Tucked away in the Princes Mall, this is the place to buy dried fruit, nuts, baking goods, and sweeties (they also have a good range of diabetic sweets)
Watch out for offers and the 50% sale days!

This bright yellow little shop is an amazing treasure trove of cards and little presents for every occasion. They also have a fabulous selection of earrings pinned all along the shelves, many of them unusual and unique designs. The lady who works here is lovely and always up for a chat.
