Home Bargains - Selby
2-3 Market Lane, Selby, North Yorkshire YO8 4QA
30-07-2012
i called in home bargains today and intended to buy some alcohol amongst other things. unfortunately i found myself getting very embarrassed and felt quite upset because i had a teenager with me. although i had clarified that the alchohol was for myself i was refused this. i again confirmed it was for myself and they told me if i had a 7year old daughter they would serve me without discussion.
that is discrimination and how can the staff/policy decide because someone is with me of a certain age if i will be served or not when i specifically informed them that it was for myself...
after the embarrasement i spoke to a couple of my friends and 3 others have been deliberately embarrassed in this way. i was eventually served but some of my professional friends refuse to enter the premise again and i feel distraught and angry at the way this policy is put forward. i feel i was being called a liar and most adults would simply walk away feeling quite humiliated by the whole episode.
i intend to boycot the store because the way it is handled is completely insensitive and discriminative.
it is a disgrace that this behaviour is encouraged, i am a great believer of customer service and there are ways things like this could be handled.
i am a carer of a disabled child, thank god she wasn't with me at the time!!!!
