Gas Hall - Birmingham

Chamberlain Square, Birmingham, West Midlands B3 3DH

11-06-2009

Gas Hall is part of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and stages some great touring exhibitions. I’ve just been to see the Matthew Boulton Bi-centenary Exhibition with a stunning display of 18th century artifacts produced at his Soho Factory in Birmingham from shoe buckles, coins and tokens to magnificent silverware and sheffield plate. Check out the huge Masonic silver candlesticks - go to be seen to be believed! There’s even the world’s first ever 18th century photocopier on display. It’s a free exhibition with a huge range of displays and really sets the scene of how Birmingham and Boulton became synonymous with the Industrial Revolution and their impact on the World.
Go and see it, you won’t be disappointed!

The Green Man - Besançon

21 Rue Pasteur, 25000 Besançon

04-06-2009

I was in Besancon last week and looked this place up. I spent an incredible evening in the company of Blues performers Tom Cat Blake and Mike Shannon from Illinois. The atmosphere was electric and this is how live music should be. The Green Man is one of the best bars I have ever visited anywhere in Europe. Great staff, friendly customers and a welcome haven from all those awful themed bars and pubs that roll out those horrible plastic environments. If you are in Besancon check it out.
