I loved the Chok Dee but what happened? I phoned up one Friday night and there was no answer. When I walked past the premises it was all locked up and empty, like they all went home one night and just didn’t come back. I miss the Chok Dee and their delicious Thai green curry.
Misty's Cocktail & Cafe Bar - Hove

Hove’s Primerre venue! At happy hour you get get two for one cocktails and they have a really good menu to choose from. I’ve never seen anyone doing that fancy throwing-it-all-around milarky, but they do always make me a nice cocktail so I can’t complain. They serve bar food but I’ve never actually tried it. Oh, and my friend Manda assures me they have a Tom Cruise lookalike barman…but I’ve never seen him. They have an outside courtyard area too, and I have seen that.

My favourite chippy in Hove. They do all the usual tasty chip shop food, but also serve steamed cod with delicious home-cooked sauces like black bean and garlic, or ginger and spring onion. I like that I can have something that’s not deep fried so I always go for the steamed cod and boiled rice. If you phone your order through they’ll have it waiting for you, and there’s always friendly service. I recommend Jade Well for a decent local chippy.
Puccino's - Hove
35 George Street, Hove BN3 3YB

This is a small cafe with a modest menu but I wanted to give it a mention because each time I go I have lovely food and good service. Puccino’s serves jacket potatoes, paninis, wraps, breakfasts, smoothies, coffees and desserts. Everything I have ordered in there has been delicious, and they give good portions too. If you can understand the company’s crazy sense of humour though, please let me know, because I really don’t get the sarcastic notes on the walls, menus and crockery
Oblong Restaurant - Hove

I went for dinner with some friends. The food was tasty, well-presented and of a high standard. The atmosphere was good and there were Tuacas all round! If you like a good portion however, you’d better have a snack before you go in because they’re not so generous with the accompaniments, and the potatoes seem to be rationed. What spoiled the night for me was when after half an hour the waiter did not return with our change and when we asked what had become of it the staff had no idea how much we’d even given them….in fairness though, neither did we.
Greens Organic - Hove

This is a great shop and reminds me of the supermarkets on Green Lanes in North London. The staff are really friendly and the shop well stocked. The only thing that would make it better is if it had the same prices as Green Lanes…but hey, this is Hove after all.
Otello Restaurant - Hove

Otello is a clean and bright Italian restaurant in the centre of Hove. The staff were pleasant and the service good.
I ordered the pizza pescatori which has tuna, onion, peppers, garlic and tomato, but no mozzarella. It was very tasty, especially after we’d managed to convince the waiter to let us have a little parmesan on top.
What really made the meal though were the desserts. I had the tiramisu and my partner had the profiteroles. Both were healthy portions and mouth-wateringly delicious. The tiramisu was so tasty in fact, that I decided not to eat or drink anything else for the rest of the evening so that I could savor the taste.

The restaurant seems clean and the service was good. I just popped in to order food to takeaway and I am afraid I was disappointed.
I ordered Pallak Chicken, which is described on the menu as ‘chicken tikka pieces cooked with spinach and garlic in a medium to hot sauce’. I would describe it as chicken pieces cooked with spinach in a gallon of ghee with very little flavour.
I also had a portion of samosas which were also swimming in oil, and a portion of pilau rice, which had pretty colours in it but was not well seasoned.
Having just moved to Hove from Bradford, I was craving some decent Indian food…and I still am.
mio_ I like many Indian, Kashmiri and Asian dishes. In fact it is probably my favourite cuisine. Achari Chicken is a favourite…and I had a lovely vegetable dish not long ago that was butternut squash but I cannot remember the name.
