Caffe Nero - Southwark

More London Place, Southwark, London SE1 2DA

01-04-2009

Cafe Nero has certainly gone downhill since it opened years ago. I made the horrible mistake of buying a panini as I was starving. It tasted like an ASDA sandwich only worse - it’s obvious that Nero use the cheapest ingredients possible, it made me feel sick, I only ate half of it!
And it cost about £4 too!

It’s a rip off, but I doubt anything will change because it’s a chain and will always make enough money to keep serving people horrible food and cheap tasting coffee. I won’t be going back though.

Champor Champor - Southwark

62 Weston Street, Southwark, London SE1 3QJ

Food was amazingly presented and very tasty, but unfortunately my only complaint (and I hate complaining when I had such a good time) was that the flavours were so varied and rich that it was too much by the time it came to my main meal. With such complex food I think less is more - although I certainly felt it was worth my money!

Also, it was quite difficult to eat with chopsticks! Calamari starter was superb though.

The staff were so attentive and nice, without being annoying or intrusive. They looked after us incredibly well, and I would definitely recommend it to a friend, but perhaps suggest only having a main course and dessert as it was rather filling!

Layout and decor was lovely, very authentic and romantic atmosphere.

The Font - Brighton

Union St, The Lanes, Brighton BN1 1HA

Despite the crappy house music this pub has an awesome layout. It used to be a church so the interior is very strange but entertaining to be in. Perfect place to stop when shopping in the south lanes or a great place to start a night out. I would definitely recommend it if you’re visiting Brighton.

Havana - Brighton Marina Village

32 Duke Street, Brighton BN1 4AG

16-01-2009

Me and my boyfriend went here on a special occassion. It’s very expensive, but then you do get what you pay for. We had cocktails, which although took there time to get to us were delicious and very alcoholic!
The meal was gourmet but filling and probably one of the tastiest meals I ever had. Staff were friendly although not as attentive as we’d hoped.
However, the food spoke volumes and the atmosphere is lovely, romantic, with a water fountain in the eating area.
The only reason I’m only giving it 4 was because of the service but after a few cocktails I didn’t really care anyway, haha!

Pizza Hut - Brighton

Horrible, stodgy, overpriced, fatty pizza served from a chain restaurant. Yuk.

Harry Ramsdens - Brighton

1-4 Marine Parade, Brighton BN2 1TA

19-11-2008

Very disappointed when I finally went here. I’d heard it was good but the food is barely even standard. It tasted overcooked, chewy, with hardly any flavour. Won’t be going back when there are plenty of better chippys around like Bardsley’s which is a fraction of the price.

Nandos - Brighton

34 Duke Street, Brighton BN1 1AG

19-11-2008

The highlight of Nando’s is the marinade, which is absolutely delicious. However, the menu is limited - if you’re veggie like me there is practically nothing. I had a tasteless burger in pitta but I did enjoy covering it in spicy sauce. However, seeing as you can buy the marinade in Sainsbury’s now, why bother wasting your money eating out here?

Chopstick Express - Brighton

28 Baker Street, Brighton BN1 4JN

19-11-2008

I can’t believe I’m the first to review this place! Ok, I know it’s only a take-away but this is a hidden gem. The choice is huge here, and everything is really tasty and not too expensive. Service is quick, you get free prawn crackers and the staff are lovely. If I’m ever stuck for take-out it’s the first Chinese I think of.
Veggie options great too - you can even get Vegetarian Duck! ...which is delicious by the way but I highly recommend the Prawn Chinese Curry and Squid wit salt & chilli.

Fired Earth - Brighton

15C Prince Albert Street, Brighton BN1 1HF

19-11-2008

This is a very expensive but nice tile and bathroom shop. I imagine if you wanted your bathroom decorated the expensive way you would go here. Beautiful stuff but it’s just so pricey I was put off.

Elm Grove Furniture - Brighton

A nice second hand furniture shop. I’ve bought most of my stuff here when I moved in and the prices were good and the furniture still stands! Good quality stuff.
