The Albert - Kingston upon Thames
57 Kingston Hill, London KT2 7PX

Really friendly staff welcomed us and showed us to the dining area. I had the Steak and Ale pie which was delicious - the meat was so tender and the puff pastry on top was light and flaky. It came with mashed potato and seasonal veg which were great. My other half had the lamb burger which he said was good. The prices were expensive for a pub, but the food was so good it was worth it.
Ayudhya Restaurant - London

We thought the food here was excellent - it tasted freshly cooked, the flavours were spot on and whilst it was spicy, it wasn’t too spicy. We had the Roast Duck Curry and the Pla Rad Prik (Monkfish in a chilli tamarind sauce). The portions were on the small side and prices were expensive, but the food was delicious. The service was great, attentive but not too overbearing.

My fiance is a big fan of Pork Balls and I’d never really liked them until I tried the ones from Stoneleigh Palace. The meat is very moist and tender and the crispy batter doesn’t have that horrible soggy stodginess which has always put me off.
We have ordered Szechuan and Kung Po dishes from here and they’ve had just the right amount of chilli for a punchy flavour. The Special Fried Rice is lovely and has all the ingredients you’d expect in good quantities.
I’m only giving 4 stars instead of 5 because we have had some issues with delivery being too long, so I hope they sort this out, but it won’t put us off from ordering from them.
Go Sing - Epsom

We ordered food from Go Sing only because our regular chinese take-away (Stoneleigh Palace) was closed. The food was very disappointing, particularly bad were the Pork Balls (the meat inside was very tough), the Spare Ribs (the sauce tasted very strange and the tiny bit of meat on them was very tough and chewy) and the Szechuan Prawns were bland and not at all spicy which is the whole point of Szechuan!
The chow mein was drowning in gravy which I found unappetising, but this was probably the most decent dish which is saying something!
Jimmy Spices World Buffet - Epsom
1 The Derby Square, Epsom, Surrey KT19 8AG

I really liked the concept of Jimmy Spices - all you can eat cuisines from around the world - however they couldn’t quite pull it off.
The actual restaurant is fantastic, but the food is terrible. There are huge pots of food for you to help yourself to, but the food is lukewarm, greasy and bland. I felt ill after trying the fried rice and thai curry, but I wanted to get my money’s worth so I tried some of the finger foods and they were just as bad. It’s a real shame as £12.95 for a buffet seems like a good deal, but it’s a waste of money if the food is awful.
I would advise you spend your money elsewhere.
Ewell Fish Bar & Kebabs - Ewell

We have been getting take-away from this place for over a year and it’s far and away the best. When I phone up for a delivery order the man who answers the phone is very friendly and polite. He says delivery will take between 30-40 minutes but it’s never taken that long and it’s even been delivered in 20 minutes (please bear in mind that we live 0.3 miles away - yes we’re very lazy getting it delivered but why not take advantage of the free delivery?!).
We have tried the Mixed Kebab which is very nice, but our usual order is regular Chicken or Lamb Shish for myself (£3.80 each) and the fiance, regular cod for his dad (£2.90) and Roast Chicken and Chips for his mum (£4.50), plus a large chips (£1.50). The chips are really lovely and the portions are good so this is plenty to share between the 4 of us.
My fiance’s mum is a very fussy eater (for example she doesn’t like pasta even though she’s never tried it!) so for her to say that the Roast Chicken and Chips from here is “absolutely gorgeous” is a real compliment! She says the chicken is really tender and juicy and not dry like some other take-aways. We have always found the kebabs to be excellent and we really like the salad that comes with it as it tastes fresh.
They offer many things on their menu like burgers, chicken nuggets, scampi, pies and desserts so there is something for everyone.
Minimum order for free delivery £8.00 (3 mile radius)
Delivery times: 5pm till late
Open 7 days a week from 12 noon till late
Carrington's Hair & Beauty - Epsom
60 High Street, Epsom, Surrey KT17 1RL
24-01-2009
I decided to try Carrington’s as it’s very local to me and I found a voucher in my local paper for 20% off a wash, cut and blow dry. I phoned them up Saturday lunchtime and booked an appointment for 3pm the same day.
I have shoulder length straight hair which hadn’t been cut since August 2008 so it was in dire need of a cut and a style.
They normally charge £40.50 for what they call a Management Cut & Finish which is between a trim and a total restyle. So with 20% off I paid £32.40 which is expensive but it was totally worth it.
First of all, the person that answered the phone when I made my appointment was very friendly - I think this is really important and says a lot about the salon staff in general. When I arrived 15 minutes early I was greeted by a very smiley girl at the front desk who introduced herself as Becki and she said she would be cutting my hair. She took my coat and then we discussed what style I wanted. I showed her a picture I’d printed off the Internet and she talked me through how she was going to achieve that haircut and how I could recreate the style at home with rollers and hair products.
I then had my hair washed by a young girl who gave my head a nice massage, she was neither too rough or too soft so it was very relaxing. The shampoos and conditioners she used smelt gorgeous, but I didn’t see what brand they used - they were probably way too expensive for me to buy anyway!
Becki then went to work cutting my hair. She was very competent and I felt totally at ease with my hair in her hands. We had a really nice chat as she was genuinely friendly and so were all the other staff - the manager offered everyone sweets and wished me Happy New Year as it’s Chinese New Year in a couple of days (I’m Chinese by the way!).
I was in and out the door in an hour and the whole experience didn’t feel at all rushed, I felt like I had their full attention and they cared about me being happy with my haircut.
Carrington’s is an independent salon and this shows not only in their prices which are lower than the big name salons, but also in the rapport they have with their customers and each other. Becki said herself and the other stylists have worked in the big name salons but she preferred to work at Carrington’s and it’s easy to see why. I find places like Toni and Guy pretty intimidating, but Carrington’s was wonderful and I’ll definitely be going back as I want to keep my lovely new haircut in tip top shape!
