Pret A Manger - Glasgow

34 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, Scotland G2 3AH

07-12-2011

Typical Pret store, with good selection of hot and cold food. As always, tastes fresh and ready made; though there is a premium to pay!
The hot wraps are often a good shout, though can disappear somewhat quickly. Staff are quite friendly and the seating options are not too bad.
All in all, its exactly what you’d expect of a Pret.

Oxford Espress - Oxford

Gloucester Green, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 2DF

02-06-2009 (updated on 22-03-2010)

The Oxford Espress competes with the Oxford Tube in providing a coach service from Oxford to London. Their service is largely similar to the Tube, stopping at the same stops (except for an extra stop made by the Tube, where almost no-one ever gets off). They also offer Wifi and in fact, used to give free breakfast on services before 6.30am. The frequency of their services does decrease in the evening, so if you're coming back very late at night, it may be better to buy a Tube return. Note that if you leave Oxford after 3pm and are returning the next day, you can buy a cheaper return than normal.

Fopp - Glasgow

19 Union Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 3RB

14-02-2010

Unfortunately the Fopp chain has been very close to becoming one of the casualties of the credit crunch, though the Glasgow store is still in business. It is an excellent source for a bargain; I've seen 10 season box sets going for

PUMA Store - Glasgow

91 Buchanan Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 3HB

14-02-2010

Another retail outlet in the mass on Buchanan Street, the Puma shop is full of friendly assistants and is well stocked (compared to some of their rivals), you will rarely have problems getting the right size here. The shop is laid out in an open plan design which gives it a very airy feel. Only slight disadvantage is that the numerous assistants can sometimes make it feel a bit claustrophobic, there's always someone trying to offer you something.

Apple Store UK - Glasgow

147 Buchanan Street, Glasgow, Scotland G1 2JX

14-02-2010

One of the more understated Apple stores I have seen, this is located about halfway up Buchanan St, on your left if you face Buchanan Galleries. As would be expected from an Apple store, there are lots of gadgets to play with, lots of staff to ask questions of and plenty of excited teenagers walking about. Presentation is perfect, as always. The staff themselves are very friendly and the helpdesk upstairs is an excellent source of advice, though you will need to make a booking.

Holiday Inn Birmingham M6 J7 - Birmingham

Chapel Lane, Birmingham, West Midlands B43 7BG

14-02-2010

Located just off the M6, this is a nice; though rather old Holiday Inn. Hotel facilities are as would be expected, though there is an absence of newer features such as flatscreen TVs. The included breakfast if pretty standard fare. There is a lot of parking nearby, so an excellent option if this is important to you. The rooms themselves are comfortable, but by no means especially plush. All in all, a pretty standard offering from a well established hotelier.

Travelodge Hotels - Knutsford

J18 J19 M6 Northbound, Knutsford, Cheshire WA16 0TL

13-08-2009

An average Travelodge hotel with the same decor you will find in the rest of the country. There’s a small Little Chef and a petrol pump nearby but you’re best bringing supplies with you to be honest. The rooms are clean and the staff are friendly, managed to stay there for £19 a night, so can’t really complain!

Asda Stores - Glasgow

1 The Avenue at Mearns, Newton Mearns, Glasgow, Scotland G77 6EY

02-06-2009

This Asda store is the main attraction in the Avenue shopping centre in Newton Mearns. It’s open till 10pm most days and stocks a wide variety of goods, alongwith foodstuffs there is a clothing (George) section, Audio/Video and some electronics. They also have a nice selection of cards just opposite the main entrance (next to the magazines) which are a great option if Clintons is shut. Staff here are friendly, though they seem to change quite often. If it’s raining outside, note that you can park in the covered car park on the lower level and walk into the Avenue via a covered walkway, down which you can also take your Asda trolley (bring a pound coin to get one!).

Morrisons - East Kilbride

Greenhills Road, Glasgow, Scotland G75 8YB

02-06-2009

This large Morrisons store is integrated into the East Kilbride shopping complex (one of the largest indoor complexes in Europe) and has it’s own dedicated entrance to the exterior. It is extremely useful to visit if you are looking to squeeze in some grocery shopping alongwith your clothes shopping! The staff here are friendly and the entire Morrisons range is available (including electronics). Queues can get long at busy times, but normally are quite manageable. Note that it can be a bit of a walk to the other side of the shopping centre depending on where you park!

Forge Shopping Centre - Glasgow

1221 Gallowgate, Glasgow, Scotland G31 4EB

02-06-2009

The Forge is located towards the east side of Glasgow city and is quite an old shopping centre which pales in comparison to newer developments such as Braehead and Silverburn. However, there is a decent array of shops available to cater for everyday needs. It isn’t somewhere one would go out of their way to visit on a shopping trip, not least because some of the clientele can be less than friendly! It can also be difficult to navigate, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area.
