bottle and glass - Harby

Harby, Harby, Newark, Nottinghamshire

21-02-2013

cosy pub inside, nice seating area outside for when the weather permits!!  We like to take a lunch time break from our leisurely cycle as the food is really a notch up from your typical pub grub.  food ranges from simple bar snacks to the more contrived, so usually something to suit all tastes and sizes of appetite.  staff are courteous and informative regarding menu options.

House of Bols - Amsterdam

Paulus Potterstraat 14, 1011 AC Amsterdam

16-02-2013

Fantastic way to while away a rainy afternoon in Amsterdam.  No need to work too hard, just a bit of fun, with a couple of bols cocktails and shots thrown in, very pleasant and would be a great start for a hen or girlie weekend.  Nicely packaged and worth the money compared to other venues in Amsterdam.

Tappinyaki Nippon - Amsterdam

Well crafted, good produce, and plenty of courses, struggled to finish all the food.  Staff were a little busy, our beer was ages arriving, and wasn't what we ordered.  However, all in a great
meal, high of the evening being the carpaccio of beef.

Garlic Queen - Amsterdam

Reguliersdwarsstraat 27, 1017 BJ Amsterdam

If you like garlic this is a place to visit.  A small menu, every dish is produced with care, taste and of course with garlic!  Personal touches, excellent service, and sublime food.  Love it absolutely will return.  We had gambas, garlic soup, followed by the beef, and tuna.  I managed the chocolate dessert, and we tried the locally produced orange liquor which was sensational.

The Thai Rainbow Restaurant - Ashby-de-la-Zouch

Tasty and authentic food, good efficient service.  Just the job for a mid week meal out

Always try and make it to this place when in the vicinity.  Nice felxaing surroundings, with an excellent buzz, and staff friendly and ready to help.  Excellent for beer or wine, definitely recommended

Park Lane Mews Hotel - Mayfair

Hilton Mews Hotel 2 Stanhope Row, London W1J 7BS

A great location for Mayfair/Bucks Palace and Picadilly/Regent St shopping.  This is a reasonably small hotel, but their standard rooms are on a par with many of the slightly more expensive hotels in the vicinity.  The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was perfectly adequate and clean.  There's a smalll informal bar area where you can get a late nightcap if required.  We didn't partake of the breakfast so can't comment on this, but i'd recommend this palce for anyone looking for a less formal, smaller hotel within 5 mins walking distance of Green Park.

This has become my favourite place to be for breakfast in London.  we popped in out of the snow for breakfast on sat, and were immediately greeted by the lovely waiting staff, who found us a table within minutes.  The service was exemplerary ,  the staff were professional but completely approachable, and we felt very much at home.  We were suffering slightly from the excess of a night at Ronnie Scotts the previous evening, and so ordered up a hair of the dog in the shape of a couple of bloody marys - these definitely hit the spot and were a great accompaniment to our eggs benedict.  Service works like clockwork, which you'd expect with the number of staff, but it's also the little touches in details, such as the silverware, and the way food and drinks are presented that make a visit here such a great experience.  We loved it so much we returned the following day for brunch - and were not disappointed.  We tried the croque madame and the fishcake with poached egg, and the fresh juice of the day - all were exceptionally flavoursome and well cooked.  We're spoilt for anywhere else for breakfast now...

OXO Tower Restaurant Bar & Brasserie - South Bank

Barge Ho Street, Oxo Tower Wharf - South Bank, London SE1 9PH

love this place for a special night out, iit has the best combination of view over london, well presented and cooked food, excellent house champagne, and non intrusive live music.  the only slight criticism is that the main course portion of lamb cooked two ways was far too large for both myself and my fellow diner (both ladies) - it was so beautiful we couldn't bear to leave any, and so had no room for dessert unfortunately.  We both enjoyed our starters of beetroot and goats cheese and scallops, both dishes were complex, full of strong but perfectly formed flavours.  We'll definitely be back and would recommend this to anyone celebrating that latest deal, family event or business deal!

Hawksmoor Guildhall - City of London

If you appreciate a great steak then this restaurant is well worth a visit.  It's very popular so you need to book in advance to get the time you want.  I was impressed with everyone I met - the booking team who were very helpful, the very knowledgeable and pleasant team who served us, and the team working away preparing the food all of which was absolutely delicious.  The surroundings are traditional colonial style, plenty of table space and space between tables making it feel airy, but with a nice level of social buzz in the room.  All this made for a most enjoyable evening that we'll remember for some time.  I'd definitely recommend this place, and will be returning as soon as the opportunity allows.
