Oldway Mansion - Paignton
Torquay Road, Paignton TQ3 2TE
24-05-2009
(updated on 25-05-2009)
Oldway Mansion was once the home of the Singer family (of sewing machine fame.) They left the mansion to the town of Paignton. It is a beautiful building and a fantastic setting for a registry office wedding with a sweeping marble staircase with a huge mural. The grounds are also worth exploring and you could have a game of tennis on the public courts.
If you are feeling weary after exploring stop for a Devon Cream Tea in the tearoom. Scrummy.
Broadsands Post Office - Paignton
4-5 Churston Broadway, Paignton TQ4 6LE
25-05-2009
The post office is at the rear of a One Stop shop, which is anewsagents and groceries store. The shop is busy, particularly in the summer when you get the holidaymakers in. It can be difficult when queuing for the post office.
Generally had good service here and the cash machine is useful.
Boots The Chemists - Paignton
12-14 Victoria Street, Paignton TQ4 5DN
25-05-2009
I like Boots but unfortunately I would rather go to Torquay or Brixham than use this branch.
It is a small shop and hard to move around but the main problem is the staff. On the pharmacy they are excellent but on the tills by the door they are not friendly. I think this is particularly poor when it is a seaside town where the visitors are important.
The shop has a good range of goods considering the space available. If you like collecting Boots points you can get them here.
Barclays Bank - Totnes
14 High Street, Totnes, Devon TQ9 5SD
25-05-2009
If you don’t mind the hill this is a friendly branch of Barclays. It is situated about halfway up the hill which is the main shopping street in Totnes.
The bank isn’t large but it is big enough and well laid out. I have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly and it is a nice bank to use.
Lloyds TSB Bank - Totnes
31-33 Fore Street, Totnes, Devon TQ9 5HH
25-05-2009
This branch has a modern, open plan feeling to it. It is situated at the bottom of Fore St and it is quite a big branch. The staff are generally very friendly and helpful but sometimes it is a bit fraught when they are busy.
The parking on Fore St is now pay and display and this does mean it is easier to get a parking space if you need to go into the bank.
Exeter Music Shop - Exeter
154 Sidwell Street, Exeter, Devon EX4 6RT
25-05-2009
This is an excellent shop and I can recommend it to anyone who is interested in music or who has a child learning an instrument.
With two children learning different instruments I have found this shop to be a really useful resource. I can get expert advice from the staff, which is excellent as I know nothing about music. They stock instruments and sheet music and will get anything you need that isn’t in stock. They also have alot of information about local musicians, teachers and events.
Savers - Newton Abbot
Queen Street, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12 2AQ
25-05-2009
Savers is a good name because you can really save money on cosmetics, toiletries, sun creams etc.
They really are cheaper than other high street shops. The shop is clean and well presented, the staff are friendly and helpful. You won’t get the sort of expert advice that you would get from the cosmetics counter in a large department store but it is alot cheaper.
An excellent place to shop for this type of product.
Brantano Footware - Kingsteignton
Newton Road, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12 3AF
25-05-2009
I have bought shoes here several times, the shoes are all out on display so you don’t have to ask to try a pair on. The prices are competitive and the stock a really good range. So why have I given it only two stars? Service, or should I say lack of service. I have never had such poor service from such surly staff. I don’t think I would go here if they were giving the shoes away.
Tumbling Teds Playhouse - Newton Abbot
1 Wharf Road, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12 2DA
25-05-2009
My grandchildren have tested Tumbling Teds for me and they love it. It is the best soft play centre we know and is a pleasant experience for the adults as well as the children. Very stressfree way to let the little ones play and then have a nice snack in the cafe. The equipment is all clean and well maintained.
Somerfield Stores - Newton Abbot
28 Market Walk, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12 2RX
25-05-2009
This is a busy branch of Somerfields which is probably down to the location as it is close to the market, bus station and town centre car parks.
It is normally well stocked and clean with the normal range you would expect in a supermarket. The prices aren’t bad and some of their special offers are very good. I particularly like their pastires and bread, the apricot crowns are great.
