I really want to like this hairdresser and give it more than a middling 3. The staff are sweet, and its got a very homely mom-pop feel to it. They are very accommodating and courteous.

Unfortunately I can’t give it more than 3 because I’m not sure whether the haircuts are really up to scratch. I’ve had a really bad haircut as a result of over zealous layering. I did have the courage to go back and ask for her to correct it which she was gracious about. It looks marginally better so would like to add half a star (3.5). I’d really like to be able continue to go there, so hopefully won’t let one bad experience ruin what’s otherwise a nice little hairdresser.

One other moan – Mr Metcalfe. Better and more up to date magazines – it is an allowable expense on your tax return!

The mind boggles as to how this shop is still surviving. The one thing that it does have going for it is a fairly wide range of lighting. But their customer service is appalling. I went in to buy a shade and it took them 35 minutes to attempt to sell it to me, with the saleswoman blaming the system. When I suggested that perhaps she should ask for training on it, another member of staff laid into me and was shockingly abusive (name of Julia – avoid her at all costs anyone who ventures into the store – she is a nasty, vicious person who should never be employed in any capacity where she has to deal with the public).

They were very unprofessional, blamed the store’s system (so much for loyalty) and told me how difficult it was to use it. If that’s the case, speak to the manager – don’t drive away customers. Top tip – order all your goods online rather than go into the BHS store in Eastbourne. It took me 2 minutes to do so.

I'm trying to be tolerant here, so I've given EB UK 2 stars when my initial reaction was to award it 1. But I think I'm being too nice doing so! This salon is a very amateurish setup. I don't think the staff have had much training; both my daughter and I have had our hair cut here and I had mine coloured. We left with styles that can only be described as MULLETS and I had a ring of colour around my face, which the 'colourist' had lazily allowed to stain my skin whilst attempting to colour my hair. When I asked her to clean it, she said it would come off in the shower over the next few washes! Err... £40 (or thereabouts) should warrant some cotton wool and cleanser.

But it was the lack of technique of the so-called "stylist" that makes me want to warn all of you to think twice before going to EB UK. After all, if there is anything Eastbourne has a lot of, its hairdressers! So find another if you value your hair.

Jasmines is a wonderful salon. The staff are friendly, genuine and very professional. I can't recommend it highly enough. I would have given Jasmines 5 stars, but deducted a star owing to the cramped waiting area, which jostles for space alongside women having manicures/pedicures. I had a gorgeous facial there, during which I was made to feel very special and didn't have to pay an exorbitant price either.
