Passport Photo Service - Mayfair
449 Oxford Street, London W1C 2PS
02-06-2009
I used this service when I was desperate to get get a new passport quickly. They were extremely helpful and courteous. I had to take my old passport and fill in a form and they did the rest for me. They took it to the passport office - they delivered my passport by courier at seven in the evening. The whole process took from first thing Monday morning until Tuesday evening - the first emergency appointment at the passport office, when I rang them was not until Wednesday afternoon.
The cost was just over £100 - for getting my passport at least 24 hours earlier than otherwise (saving a day of my holiday) and took all the stress away as well.
The Wharf - Cardiff
Schooner Way, Cardiff, Wales CF10 4EU
02-06-2009
The Wharf is a bar/restaurant in Cardiff. It is situatedbetween Cardiff Town Centre and Cardiff Bay along the old Wharf which is now just a stretch of water. It is not in an area where you might stumble across it if you are on a pub crawl or on your way somewhere as it is quite out the way but this adds to it’s appeal.
The Wharf is an old factory style building that has been converted into a pub but it still has some of it’s old features which makes it very unique and also very large. It is quite dark inside but cosy because there are lamps on the walls and it has a lovely atmosphere.
The best thing about The Wharf is that it has a large outside space with lots of tables placed on the waters edge. It’s really lovely on a sunny day to sit outside with a drink.
There is an old boat in the water which is a nice effect as it makes it clear what used to happen there when it was a wharf. If you look closely though, the water is pretty dirty and there can be rubbish floating in it ( not the fault of the bar though) which isn’t great.
The food at The Wharf is very nice. It is typical pub food, fish and chips, burgers, sundays roasts etc. Although the food is pretty standard in terms of the menu, it is very nice, well presented and the portions are large. The prices are reasonable too.
One thing that is slightly disappointing is that right across the old wharf is a dual carrage way and you can hear the constant roar of traffic. It’s annoying because it seems so peaceful apart from that.
Overall, a lovley place to go for a drink and lunch in the sun.
the balti hut - Thrapston

Hmm not too sure on this place anymore, have had a few lovely meals but recently they just did not seem botheres. The restaurant was more or less empty. I had a Chicken Bhuna which the chicken was very dry with no flavour and my partner had a lamb midras. He could not manage to eat it all but said it was quite nice. Once we left the restaurant we went to our local for a drink where he was really poorly he threw up all that he had eatern. We will not be eating there again!
Wokmania - Newcastle
The Gate, Newcastle upon tyne NE3 4LS
02-06-2009
was a member of a party of 8 who visited Wokmania on Friday 31st May 2009, in the Gate, Newcastle.
This was a bad experience, the staff were totally disinterested, a pool of water was left by the soft drinks dispenser, while staff walked around it!
There were approx 15 people in Wokmania at 7.00pm. It must hold 200.
We were shown to a table, asked what drinks we would like, service on the drinks was not bad.
No member of staff explained the buffet set up, so we just proceeded to it.
The food looked awful , was stale as if much of it had been out most of the day, you know when a “crust”forms on food which is just left over a heated pan.
The dishes were not hot. The rice was warm, with shimps in it, as were the other rice dishes, some of which looked as if they had been out on the buffet for a long period. The white rice had “fused” together.
The onion bhajis were burnt to such an extent that i gave a bhaji to a member of staff and said to her “get the chef to eat that” There was no reaction at all!!!It could have doubled as a cricket ball!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Food labels were wrong, one dish said chicken and was lamb.
All in our party agreed that the food was inedible. The manager was called and our concerns were made known. There was basically no reaction, we advised that we would pay for the drinks but not for any food I offered to leave a name and address, which was not taken up.
I made a strong statement to the effect that the temperature of the food esp the rice was a great concern
This caused a flurry to a mob tel by the manager and temperatute sensors were placed in some of the dishes, this caused the bain marie to be topped upwith water.I was not told what the results were.
After a couple of requests to pay for the drinks we just got up and left Wokmania.
I will not return again, until reviews justify it.
There are better value outlets nearby, this meant our night was not totally ruined.
As an aside.
One of our party reported that no taps were working in the gents.

Duke Of Wellington - Cowbridge
48 High Street, Cowbridge, Wales CF71 7AG
02-06-2009
The Duke of Wellington is a traditional and inviting looking pub, that is situated in the heart of cowbridge town centre. It has excellent opening hours staying open till around 12 on weekends, and is open 7 days a week.
Getting to the duke is easy, and you cant miss it as you drive down the high street, there is some street parking, but it is limited so the only alternative is cowbridges free car park, which though busy is free and you can usually always get a space.
The duke is a popular pub, and is well furnished inside, with a nice traditional atmosphere, and a lovelly fire during the colder months. This is quite a big pub, and even when busy, theres always somewhere to sit and enjoy a pint. The pub is always clean and tidy, and the bar staff are very friendly and quick to serve you.
They always have a very good selection of ales and beers in here, plus the usual spirits and other beverages. Prices are very good, and much cheaper than i expected for cowbridge town.
This pub has a very nice beer garden, which during the summer months, and hot weather is a dream, and really pleasant to sit out in.
I was luckly enough recently to be invited out to a meal here with some friends. The menu was superb, with a huge variety, they had plenty of vegetarian dishes, and also good selection of steaks. The food was well priced, and they also i noticed had plenty of deals on,like curry night, and 2 for £8. I opted for lasagne, which i must say was very nice indeed, with a gorgeous creamy sauce. Portion size was superb, and the service was exceptional. A friend had the steak, which i must say i was very jealous about, as it smelt delicious, and he happily polished it off.
Id definetely recommend a visit here, the staff are friendly, the atmosphere is very comfortable and the food is top notch.
Café Jazz - Cardiff
21 St Mary Street, Cardiff, Wales CF10 1PL
26-05-2009
Cafe Jazz is a restuarant/bar situated next to and part of the Sandringham Hotel on St. Mary’s Street in Cardiff. It is relatively unknown to most people as it isn’t very easy to see. It doesn’t have big flashy signs like most places, just a modest board outside.
If you do manage to find this place you will be impresssed, it is lovely. As you enter, you come across a dance floor with a small stage. Sometimes there is a DJ but mostly you will find a Jazz band playing in that area. The bands that play are fantastic and it makes such a good alternative to most of the entertainment in Cardiff.
After the stage area you have the bar. Most people can be found hanging around the bar area watching the band. It is a very laid back atmosphere with a range of people, young and old. Staff are friendly,as are most people who go there. It is not at all pretentious like some places.
Behind the bar area, slightly cordened off, you have a small restuarant. It is great because you can still hear the band and see it in some cases without it being so loud that you can’t have a conversation over dinner.
The food is great. The menu is fairly small but it changes regularly and everything is of a very high quality. You can also chose from a set 2 or 3 course menu for a very goos price.
I highly recommend Cafe Jazz as an alternative night out.
Woburn Safari Park - Milton Keynes
Woburn Park, Milton Keynes MK17 9QN
26-05-2009
A superb family day out! We went to the Woburn Safari Park this bank holiday weekend and had such a great time.
The biggest attraction is the road safari. Basically you just drive through in your car (windows tightly shut most of the time!), while rhinos, lions, bears, tigers etc. roam freely around you. They seem quite unconcerned by the vehicles and even cross the road between cars. We got lots of lovely photographs there, and it was nice to see those huge animals at such close range. The monkeys were great, there’s something so terribly entertaining about seeing them ripping off other people’s car ariels. There is a bypass if you wish to avoid them. You can repeat the road safari any number of times throughout your day.
There is a foot safari too, with attractions like Land of the Lemurs, Australian Walkabout etc., with smaller animals to look at. There is a large lake where you can take a swan-shaped boat out and also a train that takes you around the park (I’d give the latter a miss, you only see a few things that you passed on the road safari anyway).
There is a large picnic area which is more like a grassy car park as everyone parks and eats all over (they are not separated). Lots of people were having picnics because though there is lots to eat there it’s at the usual extortionate prices these places charge.
We found that there was too much to see and do in one day, we actually did it over 1 1/2 days and it still wasn’t enough. I suppose it was because we took our time over the picnic and relaxing after it etc. but who wants to rush anyway? So I suggest that you plan your day and decide what you absolutely must see/do and finish those first.
There are plenty of children’s play areas, both indoor and outdoor, so even the youngest kids have something here. The Woburn Safari Park is one of the best family attractions I have been to in the UK.
Red Hot World Buffet & Bar - Northampton
Nene Pk Leisure Weedon Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire NN5 5QJ
26-05-2009
Wow, what can I say. Someone at work recommened that I pay Red Hot a visit. My boyfriend took me there for my birthday and it was just fab. It was very busy but that did not leave faults. The food was amazing, its just something your mother would hate “ooh that doesn’t go with that etc”. You can have Chinese with your Indian, Indian with you English, its just brilliant. It’s an all you can eat buffet but good luck after plate 2!!!. Once you have finished dinner there is then a desert island, with ckaes, biscuits or………..the icecream factory with any sweet to top it off. I would highly recommend this place.!!!!
Convenient Vehicle Repairs - Westminster
London SW1P 3JX
19-01-2009
(updated on 16-04-2009)
When my daughter’s car failed its MOT test recently, I was referred to this mobile repair service as being someone who might be able to help sort out the problem at short notice. I therefore contacted the proprietor, Tony, who said he would fit in a visit that same day. This he did and he even telephoned when he realised that he had been a little too optimistic with his estimated time of arrival. This alone gets him half way to a good review! He checked over the car and used a diagnostic computer to confirm the fault before arranging to order the part and call back in a couple of days to complete the job. He arrived on time, completed the work within the timescale and cost estimated and the car passed its re-test the same day. Brilliant! I have some other jobs which need doing on our vehicles and so I have already decided to call on Tony over the coming weeks. If you need a good car repairer who comes out to your home and saves you both money and the hassle of having to take your car in to the dealer, why not give him a try!
