The Green Man Pub - Fitzrovia

36 Riding House Street, London W1W 7EP

20-05-2013

Very very busy place after work but thankfully we had booked a table. If you like ciders you'll definitely like this place as there's at least a half a dozen on tap! They have their own Green Man Special cider which is over 8% and is really nice but definitely lethal! Decent music too without being too loud, and the food, while kind of expensive for pub fare, was really nice. The pub isn't anywhere really near my place of work but if I'm ever in the area and in need of a drink I'll definitely pop in here again.

La Locanda Trattoria - Mayfair

35-37 Heddon street, London W1B 4BR

13-03-2013

We had a large group come here last night and it was a really nice little surprise. The service was good and attentive and although there were only three or four wines that were sold by the glass (many others by the bottle/half bottle), the red was really lovely and they're generous enough to fill it all the way to the top :)

Everyone I was with said they really enjoyed their meals and the portions were very generous, especially for the price. They have really great 3 course set menus also that are around £12 for one set of options ant £14 for the second set. Strada is in the area too but this is cheaper and just as good!

Fox & Hounds - Crouch End

41 High Street, London SM5 3BB

30-11-2012

Fox & Hounds is grrrrim. I appreciate the large garden in front during decent weather but the pub normally smells of sweat and urine and is frequented by some of the less pleasant denizens of the area. The toilets are just horrid, that's the worst part of the pub. The drinks are cheap, I'll give them that, but I'd pay a bit extra or walk a bit further for The Sun any day.

The Moon on the Hill - Carshalton

5-9 Hill Road, London SM1 1DZ

30-11-2012

Maybe this one's gone under new management because this Spoons is nowhere near as bad as people are saying it is :O I've only been once but it was on a busy night and although it took a bit of time to be served it was a normal Wetherspoons-like time. Formulaic but at least it's predictable, and it's cheap. But maybe my taste in pubs has gone downhill since spending so much time at another Spoons in Wallington :O

Buen Provecho - Waterloo

Lower Marsh Street Market, Waterloo, London SE1 7RG

02-11-2012

After eating here, I've become convinced there is a god, and he is Mexican.

The cochinita pibil is just amazing. I was very skeptical as I kept hearing that it's cooked in orange juice, which I'm not fond of, but it's really really lovely and spicy and you really probably have not tasted anything like it. I sure haven't. It's really good value, a meal box for £6 and you can have 2 fillings if you like or just load up on that lovely cochinita pibil, or 3 tacos I believe for the same price. Very filling but definitely savour it because you'll probably want more :) I can't stop thinking about it!

Angels Fancy Dress Shop - West End

119 Shaftesbury Avenue, Covent Garden, London WC2H 8AE

21-09-2012

I love this shop! I'm not particularly one for packaged costumes but I came here because I heard they were good for costume makeup, and are they ever!

I did have a look at costumes and there's a huge range on offer. You look through their multiple catalogues and ask an assistant to get the style and size you want behind a desk. One bad thing is that there aren't permanent changing rooms to try on your costume, you should probably wear leggings and a vest top if you want to try on. The staff at the costume bit weren't super friendly but it WAS incredibly busy at the time.

What really stood out to me was the special effects makeup. I'm more of a gore fancy dresser myself, and I was looking for some ways to get a really realistic zombie look. The gentleman helping me was great, and he showed me different techniques with different products on how to get the best look. I came out with lots of stuff that I used that Halloween and I got lots of compliments on how scary and realistic it looked! Best thing is I have loads more of my materials so I can use it again if I'd like.

Beware as it does get very busy, especially coming up to Halloween, though I'd wager it'd be busy every weekend at least, and most things aren't cheap. But if you have a very specific need you'll most likely find it here, and if you don't I believe they will put an order out for you.

nicolearios You really need to! There’s definitely something for everyone :)

The Ship - Croydon

47 High Street, London CR0 1QD

16-09-2012

I love this pub! Most nights rock and metal are playing, drinks are cheap and staff are really friendly. I'm glad I came with friends who knew lots of people there otherwise maybe I would have felt a little out of place, but it was great.

bexb-d Oh I used to love this pub! I used to come here all the time, I loved it! Last time I went was a few years ago and it’s a nice change from the rest of the places in Croydon.

The Ledger Building - Docklands

4 Hertsmere Road, Canary Wharf, London E14 4AL

08-09-2012

Best Spoons I've been to so far, it's a really nice area and great decor, the bar has a really varied selection of beers and ales. Food is standard Wetherspoons fare: cheap, quick, and decent. The loos are unexpectedly beautiful, though :)

Richoux Restauarants - Mayfair

172 Piccadilly, London W1J 9EH

21-08-2012

I didn't expect Richoux to be very good since it's so close to Picadilly Circus, but I was surprised that I quite liked it. The prices are reasonable and my aubergine parmigiana was nice. I think it was a bit of a strange menu: mainly Italian dishes with a few French and even a few Asian fusion dishes in the mix! The decor is very nice, definitely feels a bit more expensive than it actually is, and the service was fine. I would go here again if I'm ever in the area!

bexb-d I’m obsessed with aubergines at the moment and work fairly close so I’ll defo be popping in!

Cafe Pacifico - Covent Garden

5 Langley Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JA

17-08-2012

Cafe Pacifico was the last stop in our review crawl. The restaurant is incredibly busy so it's definitely not a place to go if you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner, but definitely the place for friends or Mexican culture enthusiasts! We had a great crash course on how tequila is made and also how to properly enjoy a good tequila, whilst enjoying really yummy margaritas. Carlos is an incredibly welcoming, friendly individual, who made us all feel at ease and taught us a lot about tequila and a similar liquor called mexcal. We also got to try a bunch of dishes Cafe Pacifico has to offer, including quesadillas (one which had mango in it, odd but tasty!), small tacos, nachos, and guacamole. Everything was really tasty and fresh. This is definitely my kind of place, and I'll definitely be coming here again!

bexb-d I agree~ I did love the food – mainly for all the cheese.
