Superb! Location, atmosphere, service & above all else the food - in its presentation, execution and combination of flavours and textures - this is some extremely serious cooking going on with obviously a very talented touch. We orginally visited on a trip down a month ago as part of the FT's promotion - for a beautiful lunch with a great bottle of English wine - finely cooked fish so fresh it tasted as if it had leapt out of the sea (a stones throw away) onto the plate. The better half raved about a twice baked cauliflower souffle and claimed she had died & gone to heaven when the dessert arrived - hers a chocolate fondant with horlicks ice cream - mine a iced rhubarb crumble with jelly & ice cream - a modern twist but one that transported me back to my childhood. Returning to town we vowed to make the trip down for a dinner & yesterday jumped on the train and got to the beach in time to see the sun set over the rusting remains of the pier - a memorable sight made all the better accompianied by a glass of delicious bubbly and six oysters au naturel. Dinner more than lived up to our expectations and made the trip worth it just for the chance to sample more of their delicious fare. Pork coupled with razor clams, bacon, fennel & pernod was a combination supreme, rabbit with lanquostines - a great take on surf turf .. her who must be obeyed to whom all dishes are purely an obstacle to dessert was one again delighted with the pudding selection - this time plumping(!) for a chocolate pannacota with madeline biscuits while the sussex cheese board with a glass of port finished me off!. Highly recommend you make the journey - take your wife, mistress, secretary - but go!.
