Sun In September - Burnage

Burnage, Manchester, Greater Manchester M19 1NA

21-01-2010

This is a great little pub - although I have to point out that I have only ever been for a few pints (around an hour) at a time and I have never eaten at it. But if you are just after exactly that - a pint or two with a few mates then this is a nice pub. Its a Sammy Smiths so when you get change from a fiver for 3 pints you can't complain! (Dec 09)

Only drawback is the lack of a licence to allow people to drink on the grass around the side (the only bit that won't be in shade - whenever there is sun!) So it doesn't quite live up to its name!

However; friendly (as far as Burnage goes . . .) staff, warm fire in the winter and a dart board in the back room.

THIS REVIEW IS OF THE SWIMMING POOL ONLY

I decided to try the All Seasons Chorley swimming pool as it is on the way back home from my work. A warning to all serious swimmers (i.e. those who swim laps of a stroke other than breaststoke!) this is a terrible pool to swim in, for the following reasons;

a) very shallow, meaning lots of waves (fingertips brush the bottom for most of the length when doing frontcrawl)
b) the roof beams are at an angle to the swimming pool lanes - therefore making it near impossible to swim backcrawl without bashing into something (or someone!)
c) the lane ropes are just that . . . ropes. Rubbish for cutting down on waves from nearby lanes.

And finally . . .
Was told at the reception that there would be lanes for public swimming (~5:30pm) . . . only to be told after 15 minutes of swimming to get out of the only lane available!

As a result you can't be guaranteed a lane even if told so, and if you do have a lane - it isn't going to be rewarding swim!
