Omars - Bradford
46 Great Horton Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD7 1AL
31-05-2009
(updated on 26-08-2009)
Omar’s in Bradford is a smallish Indian restaurant which is a staple of the Bradford based student and has been for many years! In fact I used to visit it in 2001 when I was at university there and it had been there a while even then. The main attraction obviously is the price, it’s cheap, with a curry costing four quid you’re not going to break the bank treating yourself every now and again (or more often). The staff are really nice, you can’t order beer there but they do let you take your own in. The take out is good too and very handily placed for the pubs and clubs of the area. So all in all it was a decent curry house if not the cleanest in the world, but hey, I’m still here.
DFS Furniture - Bradford
Enterprise Way, Bradford Road Idle, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD10 8TH
31-05-2009
I would say the sofas in DFS are OK but what puts me off in this particular store in Bradford is that the staff are quite pushy and it puts you off. I went into the shop with my fiance looking for a sofa but after being asked three times by the same member of staff if we were OK and if they could help just ask, we were then stalked round the shop by another..it was quite embarrasing and quite creepy really since we were the only two people in the shop. I know times must be tight but no wonder they struggle for custom if that’s how they treat every poor person that walks in there… I went and bought a cheap sofa from IKEA and it’s doing really well, no hassle at all.
National Media Museum - Bradford
Princes Way, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 1NN
31-05-2009
The National Media Museum formerly the Nation Museum of Television Film and Photography in Bradford is the one stop for absolutely everything media from it’s beginnings with photography and early film to the age of computers, animation and modern television and film. It is free to visit with a large parking area to the rear and the only chargeable areas are the IMAX cinema and the cafe and gift shop. Everything else, everything in the museum, is free to use. That’s why I would say it is a great day out for the family, kids, and for the older enthusiast. There really is loads to see and I’d keep an hour at the absolute minimum free. It’s really great.
Great Victoria Hotel - Bradford
Bridge Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 1JT
31-05-2009
The Great Victoria Hotel is located right over the road from the bus and train station and therefore ideally suited to anyone visiting the city be it to see family at the university or for the George Theatre next door to catch a show. It has a big car park which is free to use and the hotel itself is quite large with a decent sized restaurant, bar, and function room. Downstairs there is another function room and a gym. Rooms are nice and the prices are good, starting from £50. The food is excellent and the service from the staff is also good with room service available. This hotel is a good one based in Bradford and I highly recommend it.
Argos - Bradford
9 Darley Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 3LB
31-05-2009
Argos in Bradford is located on Darley Street and is a decent sized and popular branch of this catalogue chain. Since Index closed in Bradford about 5 years ago it has gone from strength to strength. I think it has some good offers for example I got a 1.5 litre Cookworks slow cooker here for only £8. The staff are very nice and helpful and the store is very welcoming, the wait times when it is busy rarely exceeds 5 minutes. It is very easy to reserve online and pay instore with one of the many quick pay points with your credit or debit card so you don’t have to queue twice. I would recommend this store and I will keep shopping here myself.
Grattan - Bradford
Otto House, Ingleby Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD99 2XG
31-05-2009
Grattan is a catalogue shop based in Bradford that has been going for years and years and with the wonders of the internet you can now buy online, that’s how I get my goods. As a first time shopper I got 20% off my first order, a steam mop, which made it a pretty good deal. They do a lot of free gifts and offers which mean general catalogue shopping is noq quite affordable though I would avoid their electrical goods as even with 20% off they are still way overpriced and you can pick up cheaper. The clothes seem good and they carry a lot of brand names. If you are busy or want to pay month by month I recommend it. 24/7 shopping on the site and excellent phone customer service.
Wilkinson - Bradford
John Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 3JU
31-05-2009
Wilko’s is a low priced homewares shop specialising in cleaning, kitchen, DIY, car and art supplies with random things like beauty, baby, toys and gifts, and even foods thrown in. It is pretty low priced but shop around as the pound shop can often beat it on bargains. But generally it is considered to be a bargain shop and there is plenty to choose between. It is the only shop in Bradford I can think of where you can buy a bag of compost a pint of milk and some hair dye at the same time! The staff are nice and friendly and with two floors of bargains you will find something I’m sure- well worth a visit.
Home Bargains - Bradford
Valley Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 4AG
31-05-2009
Home Bargains in Bradford is located near Forster Square Train Station to the south of the city and is a large and popular shop which can get very busy.It sells all manner of bargain items - beauty and health, foods mainly snacks, drinks and crisps, and plenty more besides, with gifts, home cleaning, gardening, toys and even bedding and towels. The prices are very low, lower than any supermarket, and generally you can pop in and find a bargain be it mens pyjamas for £4, shampoo for 50p or a Cadbury’s bar of chocolate for 10p. The shop is well laid out with plenty of room to look around even though it does get really busy. The staff are OK, and there is loads of free parking.
Topman - Bradford
10-14 Darley Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 3HH
31-05-2009
Topman in Bradford is a popular modern mens clothing shop selling fashionable and affordable clothing for the under 35 year old male, mainly. This store isn’t the largest but it does have a good range of men’s t shirts, jeans, accessories, shirts, suits, some shoes, and holiday wear. Everything is bang on trend and is reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and helpful and you can take out a Topshop store card for 10% off your initial purchase and spread out the cost of a larger shop say some suits for a new job for example. Everything is well made, worth the money but check out the sales as it has some great bargains. I would give this place an eight out of ten.
Peacocks Stores - Bradford
Valley Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 4AG
31-05-2009
Peacocks Stores sells really cheap clothes and this store is a good size if a bit varied in what it sells. Staff are nice but I struggle to find anything worth buying as the clothes aren’t that fashionable and what tries to be fashionable and isn’t that well made. It’s probably more suitable for young teenagers than anything as the prices are low and the clothes probably more suitable for kids. The menswear is not very good and my other half doesn’t really like shopping in there. We generally tend to avoid it but I can see where it might suit younger people. The shoes are pretty cheap and badly made.
