Fish and shop - Bexley

Broadway, London DA6 8AA

18-11-2008

Great service here- they cook the fish to order so its not sitting around, soaking up the grease. It means a bit of a wait but its well worth it. Chips are not greasy either so it feels like a healthy (ahem) takeaway. You can also get fish kebabs or grilled fish, as well as kebabs. The guys there are lovely and very friendly. They always stop and say hello if we pass them in the street. Its always busy!

Beigel Bake - Bethnal Green

159 Brick Lane, Shoreditch, London E1 6SB

A good tip for visitors to London, especially in the early hours when you are in need of some tasty food! It smells divine, and tastes just as good. We also used them to do a bulk supply for a large breakfast meeting and it went down sooo well! Its an incentive to get people to attend breakfast meetings, thats for sure! I wish there was one round the corner, but then again, I would quickly develop a Bagel Belly!

Wagamamas - Westminster

Spitalfields Market, London SW1P 3JX

The service was probably a little too attentive- I had my 6 month old and I think every member of staff came up to me asked if I wanted a highchair! It was nice that they were alert but I was a bit fed up at saying 'no’!
Food was so delicious though- I had prawn curry and hubby had one of their noodle soups. Very flavoursome but could have done with a bit more spice! Lots of choice though and a great range of drinks too go for. It was very busy but the staff-including cooks- were on the ball and very alert and aware.
Baby changing room was very cold though as it was near the back entrance where they take deliveries so could do with some heating there.

toby carvery (crook log) - Bexleyheath

crook log road, bexlyheath, kent , London DA6 8EQ

18-11-2008

The last time we went it was a Friday night and I dont think they take bookings, so it was very, very busy. We had to wait an hour for a table so we waited at the bar. Nowhere to sit and I was pregnant at the time so it was a long wait! Then you have to queue for the carvery which can take a while. But the food is really good- the meat is so juicy and tender and you can have a bit of each (gammon, turkey and beef) or just a bit of one. You can have as much veggies as you like and stuffing balls, and there are all the sauces and gravies you need! They have a regular menu but the carvery is the way to go! Never had dessert there- always been too full!
I think its £6 on off peak days before 7pm. Its always packed on Sundays, Easter etc and the car park isnt big enough to cope with demand so that can be a negative.

Game Raiders - Bexley

4 Lion Road, London DA6 8NR

Its a great choice for local kids to go to- I live nearby and there is always laughter coming from it. I’m wayyyy to old to go in but the fella there always smiles and waves hello! You can have a party in there and your kid will be the most popular kid in town! Or kids can just go in there and play computer games so its fab for those kids who dont have consoles, and it gives them something to do rather than hang around on the street. They have those dance games, PSs and loads more!

Its also opened during the day, not at night so great for local residents like us. Parking might be an issue but there are lots of buses that go by so not bad really.

CineWorld Bexleyheath - Bexley

28 - 70 Broadway, London DA6 7LL

18-11-2008

Its a great town centre cinema with good places to eat around it so makes getting there great. Prices are reasonable- I went there two Tuesdays on a row before my baby arrived as they did a cheap deal. I know of a couple of cinemas locally that do mother and baby cinema so it would be great if they did it here too. They always show the latest movies and turnaround is relatively good with the staff cleaning up quick before you go in for the next movie. They also do free entry for those in the Emergency Services and discounts fr students, OAPs etc.

The Pie Shop - Bexley

149 Broadway, London DA6 7EZ

18-11-2008

Hmm, maybe we went on a bad day but I thought it was awful! The staff were so moody and it seemed like they just didnt want to be there. The food was the worse I have had in a long time. The pies were greasy and it was all pastry with no filling. Meat was dry and gravy was no existant. The mash was like SMASH- it wasnt really potato at all. We left most of it and went to the Italian over the road instead.

The Real Greek - Southwark

Riverside House Southwark Bdge Road, London SE1 9HA

Terrible.

Food was fine but eating out is not just about the food-its about the service too and they get 0 for that. I needed the loo and the only one that worked was a disabled toilet. I tried to lock it but it wouldnt work. As it was a disabled toilet it was quite a large cubicle and the door opened out into the restaurant which meant if someone opened it, everyone would see me in all my glory! So I asked a waitress to make sure I locked it properly but she told me I was being stupid!!
Whilst eating, she kept on asking my husband if 'he had finished yet?’ or kept on saying 'are you STILL eating???’! It was as if they had a 14 year old there who clearly did not want to be there! I would never ever go back!

Wong Kei Restaurant - Soho

41 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1D 6PY

18-11-2008

We’ve been going here for years- as a kid I remember going here with my family and the waiters shouting at us because there were so many kids and we were taking our time eating. I still go there now so they must be doing something right! Its a cheap meal- great for the end of a the night after you have had a few drinks, or perfect for a quick fix in between shopping in Soho. We dont go there for a romantic meal as the waiters are notoriously grumpy and it has a distinctive 'canteen’ feel but its so cheap and tasty that you cant go wrong if you dont have time (or money) for a gourmet experience. You will get pointed to a table (or waved upstairs like you are a naughty child) and told to sit down with strangers. They scowl if you ask for a fork or if you dare to ask for the toilets! They’ll throw down your bill (before you have even finished your prawn crackers!) and hurry you out of the doors but GO!

Katana @ The International - Charing Cross

116 St. Martins Lane, Charing Cross, London WC2N 4BF

Went there a few months back and it was quite nice. It was busy as you would expect on a Friday night in London but service was always good- quick and spot on, not getting our happy hour cocktails wrong (and lovely cocktails too, just would be good to see a bigger variety perhaps). Had a few sharers between us which were lovely. Not your usual pub grub kind of sharers either. A fushion of East Meets West, with a range of spring rolls, wedges and other bits. Great for vegetarians too so it pleased everyone in the group.
We liked it so much that we are going back for our office Christmas do! It
