Nazams - Leeds

201 Woodhouse Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS6 2NY

17-04-2013

Nazams is cheap but the food lacks quality. The Onion Bhajis are really small and a bit bland.
The curry was watery but had a lot of oil on the surface, naan bread was over cooked and the rice had oil in it.

I love curry and for me Nazams was a disappointment. I'd rather spend a bit more money and get better quality food.

Golden Bengal - Leeds

Low Lane, Horsforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS18 5NY

31-03-2013

We ate here last night with my partner's family. We found out that the restaurant don't have an alcohol license , it wasn't a problem and we were told it was fine to bring our own. We nipped into the Co-Op first and bought some wine.

The atmosphere at the Golden Bengal is warm and welcoming and the staff gave one of the best experiences we've had visiting a restaurant. The food is extremely reasonable priced with curries ranging from about £5 to £7.

We ordered 2 sizzling starters for 4 to share. The onion bahjis were delicious, chicken tikka really succulent and nicely cooked.

For the main we ordered 1 korma, 1 masala, 1 rezala from the specials board and 1 other curry from the specials board. Also got the obligatory naan and some rice. All the curries were nicely presented and most importantly were delicious.

Total bill for a great night out £61 for 4 people. The quality of the food for the money was outstanding.
I really can't recommend the Golden Bengal enough, we will definitely go back!

Primo's Gourmet Hotdogs - Leeds

Crown Street, Unit C12, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS2 7DA

09-03-2013

I visited Primos on a Living Social voucher, which seems to have fast become my way of trying out new places.

I love the location. The Corn Exchange is an amazing building and it's the first time I've been back since the refurbishment.

Primo's has a small Cafe feel, service was friendly, polite and pretty quick. We ordered 2 of the gourmet hot dogs, 2 fries and 2 smoothies.

My hot dog had Chilli, Jack Cheese and Coleslaw. It was delicious, but very messy to eat and I embraced the American way and got it every where.

The smoothie was nice, very fresh fruit and not too thick. Fries were a little too crispy for me but my other half loved them and started hoovering up mine.

Thursday is a dog for a £1. If you order a hot dog and a drink you get another hot dog for just £1.

Would definitely go back, it's a really nice place for a lunch bite, definitely not a date place, don't want your potential next love to see hot dog running down your face.

Pesto L1 - Liverpool

We've eaten in Pesto a few times. The atmosphere is really good. The service is friendly and not over the top. I love Italian tapas because you can try loads of different things. The quality of some dishes is average and others are a bit bland. I had the fiery pasta last night, it was basically plain penne pasta with loads of tinned tomatoes and a bit of chilli. Why not do something exciting like use some spicy pesto and some parmesan. On the whole pesto is great but some dishes need livening up. The meatballs are excellent

I used the car wash at the petrol station yesterday at a cost of £4.50. The car wash itself looks like it has been assembled as part of a GCSE project. When you drive in you soon realise you should have gone somewhere else. Firstly it bent my wing mirrors the wrong way. When it dried, (use the word lightly). It continued to drip on my car. Alloy wheels were still filthy afterwards and under front bumper. Perhaps it is designed for washing all those horses found in the ready meals, who knows. Never again!

Lutyens - Blackfriars

85 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1AE

28-01-2013

I visited Lutyens last week during a business trip to London. The menu is classic dishes. In my opinion the menu is poorly laid out.It doesn't have a clear flow and did cause some confusion around the table .

After getting to grips with the menu I opted for the Crab Gnocchi to start. it was full of flavour and had a generous amount of crab but the Gnocchi was a little over cooked. At around £13 it was a fairly expensive starter so I was a little disappointed that the Gnocchi wasn't quite right.

For the main course, a medium Sirloin steak. It was cooked perfectly and well seasoned.

The vegetables were nicely cooked and the potato gratin was excellent. Lutyens also has a good selection of wines.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant is a little sterile but the decoration is fresh and modern. If you're looking for somewhere quiet to have a nice meal this is on the whole a good place.

The Explorers - Roundhay

Canal Gardens, Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS8 1DE

28-12-2012 (updated on 30-12-2012)

The Explorers Cafe is set in Canal Gardens. It's a lovely setting for an afternoon lunch and just a coffee with a mate.

The cafe has a good range of drinks and food and is very reasonable priced. The only thing that is a little annoying is that you can't pay by card under £5. I never carry any cash and don't mind the rule of no card under a fiver but it should say somewhere.

Golden Acre Cafe - Leeds

Park House Golden Acre, Otley Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS16 8BQ

28-12-2012

Golden Acre Cafe is set in one of the most beautiful parks in Leeds. The cafe serves a mix of hot and cold food, a good range of coffee and tea and even some alcoholic drinks.

The favourite for me is the Bacon & Tomato sandwich, which is completely justifiable having walked round the park.

2 Coffees and 2 hot sandwiches are usually under a tenner.

Service is good, there is loads of seating inside and out on the terrace. They even leave a bowl of water outside for dogs.

Lovely little place for a pit stop on the way round the park

Olive Tree Greek Restaurant - Leeds

55 Rodley Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS13 1NG

28-12-2012

I've always wanted to try the Olive Tree but sadly I haven't been before. We visited last week with a Groupon Voucher.

Both me and my better half wanted the Meat Meze so we ordered that and some drinks. The Greek Salad, sauces and meats were absolutely delicious. We got 3 rounds of Meze for £18 each, at first I thought £18 was a little pricey but having eaten the food I don't think it is.

The quality of all of the food was excellent, all the meats were perfectly cooked, well seasoned and nicely presented.

I'd had a really rough week and going out for dinner was a bit of a cheer me up activity, it definitely did that.

I can't wait to go back to the Olive Tree.

Del Verde - Leeds

Park Lane, Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS8 2EJ

28-12-2012

We visited Del Verde on Christmas Eve with my mother in law, who is a complete foody. Been here a few times before and we've always enjoyed it.

We were served by the assistant manager and although the service was excellent I would recommend a more relaxed style. It all felt very formal.

To start me and my sister in law ordered garlic breads to share, we didn't quite expect them to be as big as they were and ordered two. They were absolutely delicious and we're devoured.

For the main course I ordered Penne Pollo. The portion again was very generous, chicken was perfectly cooked, sauce was delicious. My other half and foody mother in law ordered the salmon fishcakes and both said they were one of the best starters they've had.

Main courses varied between Pizzas, Pasta and Steak and everything was great. The wine list was pretty extensive and reasonably priced.

For dessert foody mother in law had Tiramisu and I had Vanilla Ice Cream. The Ice cream was served in a sundae glass with hot chocolate sauce. Tiramisu portion was massive and very moorish.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve in Del Verde with nice food, some good plonk and a relaxed, warm atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

Bill for 5 people including starters, drinks, desserts and mains came to £120.
