This is a truely traditional english working mans club but i’ve been a member for the last 10 years. I came across it because my dad had been a member for many many more years and we used to go in there with him for a drink every friday night. It’s full of local men and women (yes women are allowed and can become full members). Down stairs there is a bar and snooker/pool, darts and a large screen TV for watching the sport. Up stairs there are 2 function rooms, 1 with a stage where they put on club acts (very phoenix club in the best possible way).
It’s famous for it’s name and has been featured on many documentaries on British Curiosities and it’s been said that in the past celebrities such as The Michael Jackson & Uri Geller once signed up for membership though they never visited of course (besides I’m not sure how that would have gone down with the straight talking locals anyway). I have a great fondness for this place. They serve very cheap beer including guest real ales, bottles & spirits. The bar staff are always friendly. The committee are dedicated to keeping it there for the locals as an important part of the community.

Woodhouse Grove School is a private school on the boarder on Bradford and Leeds, set in a beautiful stretch of greenbelt land on the banks of the River Aire.
Founded in 1812 by the Methodist Conference for the education of the sons of ministers, The Grove now welcomes pupils and staff of all denominations and none.
It is a school that values it roots and traditions but it is constantly changing to meet the demands of modern education. In recent years the school has grown (now 700 in the senior school from age 11) but it is still small enough for all pupils to be known well and to make their mark.
Academically this school has a great reputation with glowing OFSTED reports and strong A-Level and GCSE results.
The school gives pupils tremendous scope to explore all areas of academic life as well as to try out a wide range of sporting & musical activities. It has some amazing modern sports facilities which are admired in the area. Their indoor training facilities are even used by the Bradford Bulls (who are a super league rugby league team). The school has a great sporting record in both Rugby and Cricket & in Netball and Tennis amongst many other sports.
On the arts side they have recently had a new theatre and a new music department built to house some wonderful facilities. The school has a very lively Arts community with a wide range of musical, theatrical and art activities running throughout the year. I personally benefited greatly from the excellent music tuition I received at the school.
I would not hesitate to recommend this school to anyone in the area looking for a private Day school, but also for anyone looking for a good boarding school as the school has excellent boarding facilities for both girls and boys. It was wonderful to live in such a friendly and supportive community and when you leave the school that continues through the Old Grovians association which is run enthusiastically by a committee of past pupils (old grovians). It’s a school you’ll be a part of for life.

As a big fan of Rugby League I’ve spent a fair bit of time here as it is the home of the Bradford Bulls, who are my team, so I can’t offer you an entirely un-biased review but here goes.
Odsal stadium (or the Grattan Stadium as I think it is currently named… ) is a really unusual ground. It is build in to the hillside in a big bowl shape, there is one main grandstand offering seating and the coral stand which is for executive seating and which offers conference/banquetting facilities, the rest of the ground is open to the elements which is the stadiums down side when it’s raining, or cold. I’ve spent many a saturday in pouring/driving rain watching my team and can’t say it was comfortable but the ground has real atmosphere. It’s much better for fans now that the Bulls play summer rugby as you can imagine. On a sunny afternoon the terraces are the place to be!
As for facilities, there are adequate bars scattered round, plenty of snack stops (burgers, icecream and the usual game day food), toilet facilities and of course a gift shop! But of course the Rugby or other sporting event is the main attraction. They also do speedway meets here for any fans of motor sport.
For those of you who are season ticket holders or executive seat holders the Coral Stadium offer an excellent 3 course meal pre-match, and you can watch the game from the outside seating or from the bar in the warm through the glass fronted bars. I’ve had the pleasure of this experience recently as I’m a classical singer and have sang there as part of the pre-match entertainment several times.
The staff are very welcoming/helpful and friendly. The entertainments team make sure that there is a full programme to keep people entertained before, during and after the matches. It’s a really great family day out!

Whenever I visit Bradford I visit Habibs as it’s my favourite curry house. The food is great, at a reasonable price. The portions are ample. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly and the service is good. It is housed in a converted pub so there is plenty of room. They also host functions in the upstairs rooms.

This is a great pub. Set in an idylic old building that dates back to 1722! It sits in the dip in the valley in Apperley Bridge and is only a short walk from the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The current owners have turned it in to a gastro pub with talented chefs who use local ingredients to create traditional british and international cuisine, there really is something for everyone. The atmosphere is usually pretty lively, they often put on theme food/drink nights, e.g beujolais night. I’ve been going to this pub on and off for 15 years and can thoroughly recommend it and it’s both an ideal place to go and drink outside on a summers day or to sit inside near one of the old open fires on a winter evening, indeed at any time of year.
