Dog & Hedgehog Inn - Dadlington

2 The Green, Nuneaton, Warwickshire CV13 6JB

27-07-2011

The D&H has just opened again a couple of months back after being closed for almost 3 years. The new owners, Bill and Robert were involved in the restaurant trade in Covent Garden for several years before buying this place and becoming “Mine Hosts” there. I think the locals should think themselves very lucky.
My wife and I drove 400 miles from Scotland to spend 2 or 3 days there eating, drinking and enjoying the different copmany. We were not disapointed and the 800 mile round trip was well worth the time and money!
The food was absolutely beautiful, as was the service, prices and the local customers. We cannot wait to return.
If your are nearby or even within an hour or two of a drive, PLEASE make the effort to go and you WILL become regulars! Do book for food at the weekends though as they can be very busy even though they are ‘in the middle of nowhere’. FANTASTIC 5*

Bill's - Covent Garden

St Martin's Courtyard, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9AB

11-04-2011

Visited on 29th March 2011 for our breakfast, about 0900. Breakfast was "pretty" enough on the plate - I had a full english and my wife had scrambled eggs on toast, but it was only luke warm at best. Service was slow and inefficient even though there were only about half a dozen people in, including us, and loads of staff. It's a wee bit out of the way, not being on a main road and I'm not sure if it was really worth the effort. Plently of other place every bit as good, (but not so "posh"), in the area at almost half the price. Certainly not worth the hype, nor the money.

Boulevard Bar Brasserie - Covent Garden

Could not falut this place. We normaly eat in "higher class" restaurants in this area but we were very pleasantly surprised. Food was very good as were the prices. Really couldn't fault the place for anything at all, including service. Would recommend to anyone. Also on the plus side they also accept the Taste Card (used to be Taste London) for 2 for the price of one meals, although you must book and mention this at the time. Well done. A pleasant surprise

PJ's Bar and Grill - Covent Garden

Absolutely fantastic! This is a restaurant with bar at the entrance. Customers are welcome for food or drink. Extremely friendly and always willing to please!. Tony the bar manager is a great laugh and will serve you any drink whatsoever - as well as charm the ladies. Very reasonable prices - particularly food for its location. Go there at least 3 or 4 times a year just for the atmosphere. (We live in Scotland) Worth every penny!!!!

Went in the other day for there glass of champagne and 6 oysters deal. FANTASTIC. Oysters were all fresh, (the attendent smelled eveyone after opening then), although a tad small and the champagne was more than palatable. Lovely surroundings and very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The Ship Inn & Waterfront Restaurant - Broughty Ferry

121 Fisher Street, Dundee, Scotland DD5 2BR

01-04-2010

This palce is fine with a nice view over the River Tay, (on a good day!), but I feel it has yet to "find itself". It doesn't really know if it whats to be a decent restaurant (upstair part of the pub) or a good "pub grub place" to eat. I've eaten there 2 or 3 times with friends who wanted to see the views and whilst the food was fine it was nothing over special and the attention from staff was severely lacking as was the atmosphere. Not over pricey but not someplace to highly recommend. New Chefs and waiting staff would greatly help her.

The Ivy - Covent Garden

Cannot fault this place. A lot of people complain that it's ordinary food they serve - rubbish! It does indeed serve some classic british foods, such as Shepherds pie - which by the way, is to die for, but it is all excellently prepared and served and have never had cause to complain about anything. The service is outstanding and the prices, although slightly on the high side, I still thought they were very reasonable for the quality of the food and the service. We wer £320 on our last visit. That was for 4 people having 2 courses and then another 3 having pudding, 2 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of water and 8 champagne cocktails.
I didn't think it was over-expensive at all for the quality of food and service we received. Everyone from the doorman to the clockroom assistant to the bar staff and waiters were all excellent and extremely helpful and attentive. 5*

Chambers Coffee House - Dundee

34 South Tay Street, Dundee, Dundee, Scotland DD1 1PD

16-11-2009

Visited here at the end of last week and was not disappointed. Service and food was excellent and the food prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Not huge amount of choices on the evening menu but I thought it was just about right. I often find that restaurants with too large a menu do not proved the quality that this one did. It was actually quite surprising to find this place to be so good and it really opened up as a coffee house, but it certainly ticks all the boxes. My only slight complaint that I thought the wine was quite expensive for the quality of it - particularly the rose', but that is me down to my personal taste for good wines. I would rather see them individualy priced. I really think it is well worth the owner condieing turning into a "full blown" resataurant Wed. to Saturdays and even all day on the Saturday. I think too that god old fashioned High Teas woulg go down an absolute treat here late Saturday afternoons. Keep up the good work and will definately recommend to everyone and also return for another enjoyable evening. 5*

The Aperitif - Krakow

Sienna 9, 31-041 Kraków

30-07-2009

This was our second visit to Krakow but our first in the summer. We found this place online prior to going (170709) and emailed our booking prior to visiting on Sat 18 July. It was FANTASTIC! We have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world and particularly Paris and London and this topped them all. The service and decor was superb and the food was in a different class. We both had Kir Royals to drink at the start then two courses each. (I had the most perfectly cooked steak I’ve had in my life) and the total cost for thaat lot was £30 give or take 1 or 2 pounds sterling. It was really amazing. A bit pricy for French wines though. We bought a bottle of Moet et Chandon NV and that cost us about £50. Not worth that, but combined with the cost of the meal, it was still excellent value. The manager/partner, “J” speaks excellent English and knows his trade very well. We will go back again for a couple of days later this year just to eat there again. Can’t say enough about it. 5*+.

Amarone - Glasgow

2 Nelson Mandela Place, Glasgow, Scotland G2 1BT

10-06-2009

Couldn’t disagree more with krs3,Glasgow, (sorry). We thought it was absolutly 1st class. We went on Friday 5th June 2009,(we got a booking in the afternoon whilst having a wine there “alfresco”, even though they were really busy), and thought it was absolutely superb. Couldn’t fault the food or service in any way. Did not feel under any pressure to order any number of courses or bottled water. The waitress did ask if we wanted water with the meal,(as they should do!), and we specifically asked for the bottled water(£3.25 for big bottle is not expensive for a good restaurant), but we could have had tap water if we wanted. We had a mozarella and tomato salad and a scallops and
salad staters, and for mains we had a lamb and a pasta dish.We had 2 bottles of Rose, 2 liqueurs and 1 coffee - total price £82. Excellent food, service and price. Would highly recommend.
