We have just returned from a visit to Stratford upon Avon and whilst there we spotted Garricks Inn ‘the oldest pub in Steatford’ and couldn’t resist going in! Inside is wonderfully ‘olde worlde’ and cosy as well as being immaculately clean. The original plan was just to have a quick drink but we decided to stay for lunch as we were that impressed with the overall feel of the pub.
I ordered lasagne and my husband ordered the steak and ale pie which were very tasty and appeared to be home made. A huge let down for us was the frozen chips, we tend to eat in places that aren’t part of a chain as we’re haters of frozen pub food, so this did let the meal down for us.
Had this been my only gripe with the Garrick’s I would have scored it 4*, however after paying and leaving the pub I noticed a board outside that said ‘two meals for £9.95’ and in small writing ‘please ask at bar’. We found it very disappointing that there was no mention of this anywhere on the menu or by any of the staff who seated us/took our order. The meals that we had tend to fall under these sorts of deals, so upon leaving felt that the pub was out to take a chance on tourists not noticing the offer and paying full whack (£8-£10 a meal)
Zizzi - Kenilworth

Having never been to a Zizzi we decided to try this out whilst staying in Kenilworth. I have to be honest and say that my review would differ slightly to that of my husband’s, he would give it 4 stars whilst I would go for 2 – so the middle ground with 3 it is! Before I begin I would like to say that the service was fine and the premises very clean.
We found the menu particularly expensive, and even though we had a two for for £12.95 voucher thought the food served didn’t match the price. For starters I had the tomato and red onion bruschetta, maybe I read the menu wrong but I was expecting a sort of salsa of tomatoes and onion, not just a load of them chopped in half and thrown onto two of the thinnest slices of baguette you’ve ever laid eyes on! On the other hand my husband ordered the bread board and this was definitely worth the money, very tasty and plenty of it!
For main course I had the spaghetti bolognaise and again found the portion to be very disappointing, I was glad we’d decided to share some garlic bread however this was fairly tasteless. My husband had pepperoni pizza and it did look nice, again he was quite happy with this.
Good ice cream for desert!
With our meal we each had a large peroni. In the end the bill came to arou d £50 after we had used the voucher. I think there are much nicer places to eat in kenilworth for a chunk less money.
Famous Virgins and Castle - Kenilworth

Visited The Virgins and Castle on the first night of our stay in Kenilworth and we were not disappointed!!
The pub itself dates to the mid 1500s, and is aesthetically typical of Tudor buildings from that period. The pub had a warm and cosy feel to it and the staff were great.
Onto the important bit – the food! For starters I ordered the fishcakes with lemon mayo and my husband the pork spring rolls, both of which were a good sized portion and very tasty. For mains I had the Virgins cheese burger which Was a huge, thick homemade burger in a soft bun, it tasted fantastic but there was no way I could finish it! My husband ordered the steak and ale pie and I was amazed when I saw it – no sign of thin soggy pastry at the edges, it was encased in good solid shortcrust pastry from start to finish! Along with the home made chips my other half said it was one of the best meals he’d ever had!
Overall 10/10 for the Virgins an Castle, Fab surroundings, excellent service and wonderful food.
Phoenix Chinese Restaurant - Crook

This is the first time we have visited Phoenix and we were not disappointed! The service was second to none and the food was out of this world!
We opted for the buffet style – not to be confused with the usual ‘eat as much as you like’ restaurants where the food is sat in trays and you hell yourself – here the food is cooked fresh to order and you can order as much as you like!
We tried the salt and pepper ribs, chicken satay and BBQ wings to start and they were all delicious! The meat just fell off the ribs and the satay chicken was to die for! For the main course we sampled most of dishes as they came in smaller portions, all were great but I would especially recommend the char siu chow mein and kung po chicken. We were absolutely stuffed when we’d finished ordering and couldn’t believe it was all of that for £12!!
We couldn’t recommend this restaurant highly enough – try it, you’ll love it!!
