Park Plaza County Hall London - Waterloo

Main reason for the choice was the location and economical pricing. I’m a Londoner anyway but needed a room which would be a kind of staging post for different people over a two day period.

The location is close to County Hall and 2 mins walk to the London Eye. Its about 5 mins on foot from Waterloo Statation and about 5 mins on foot to The Houses of Parliament.

Its a modern hotel and reasonably equipped, internet, coffee minibar etc, yet the rooms can be very economically priced if you look around their offers.

Don’t expect great views (the new Park Plaza on the roundabout is a construction site visible from many of the rooms) and I wasn’t too struck with the room service (although it does run 24 hours - which is quite useful).

I’d skip the breakfasts and walk towards the river instead where there are a few cafes which won’t be as mad.

As always, take care to get a good price here; I managed sub £100 for a night although it could go into the £150+ range. Any of their offers for cheap penthouses etc are worth a look. Some of the rooms can be quite spacious.

Others adjacent hotels are Marriott - expensive and a Travel Inn - Cheaper but not much.

Most people visiting here have good reports. my slight reservation is that it can get overloaded with tours and then it can be a little rushed. We visited with a group of about 15-20 people and had the full treatment with cocktails and wines and were shown the right way to test and taste.

It was clear that our guide was a little jaded though and probably running to the clock. I get it that there is probably a timetable for everyone and if things start to run slowly it could be a problem, but I don’t think it should really seep through to the guests.

I’d still suggest an evening with this as a component, maybe rounded out with a visit to the area around Borough Market to one of the very busy pubs in the area.
