Chinwag - New Cross

Lewisham Way, New Cross, London

06-02-2013

I had my first visit to Chinwag last week and it was amazing. The cutest decor- with a toilet which is decked out like 10 downing street, and a front door which is a red telephone box, it's London down to a tee (without being tacky). Ellie and Eren are the masterminds behind this much needed new cafe, so different to everything else I've seen in New Cross.

Food wise- the full english breakfast is big, cheap and good. They also do burgers "the size of your face" which looked awesome but I didn't try.

Expect your menu to come in the form of a ye oldey book, perfect for if you need something to read whilst your partner in crime is investigating at Number 10.

I would recommend a milliion times over and I will be back!!

North Pole - Greenwich

131 Greenwich High Road, Deptford, London SE10 8JA

16-08-2012

Stumbled across this place and had such a hilarious night there. It's quite (very) essexy... glammed up girls and gangster guys. However, everyone is there to have a good time and everyone was very relaxed. No fights just people enjoying themselves! Drinks fairly cheap, and the music was phenomenal- old school garage and plenty of return of the mack style numbers.

We loved it. Slightly grubby and the bouncers are a bit over the top with their rules and regs. Oh, and it's the sweatiest place on earth. For these points I remove a star. 4 stars of true awesomeness though.

Will return.

Enjoy :)

Movida - Soho

8 Argyll Street, London W1F 7TF

16-08-2012

This is hands down the worst club I have ever been to (and I've lived in London 5 years). Movida door staff are pretentious and rude, the worst I've ever come across. I've never felt so unwelcome, nor have I felt so inferior and small. We called in to Movida on a sporadic night out on a Wednesday and called in advance to check they were open. They said it was free entry for girls. On arrival we were told it was £20 entry. We were also told that the guestlist we were on was "full." I find that surprising seeing as the club had about 50 people inside....

If you aren't in the VIP area (which has no VIPs noticeably inside) then you are banished to an empty area where no one is dancing or having fun. It kind of feels like a village hall versus a brothel.

I can't reiterate how poor the service was here. The drinks are extortionate, and careful for the 20% service charge whacked on for some poor soul behind the bar having to...oh... unscrew that bottle of £37.00 house white wine for you (which tastes like vinegar).

Usain Bolt may sip the odd bottle of cristal there but you couldn't Bolt me out there any quicker. The most awful night out in London I've ever had.

Keston Lodge - Islington

131 Upper Street, Upper Street, London N1 1QP

Love Keston Lodge, one of my favourite bars in London. Good cocktails (try the mojitos) and always true goodness spinning the DJ who resides under the stairs (mainly old school tunes remixed in a funky electro way).

They don’t let you wear fancy dress, that’s my only complaint, as I once tried to have my “R” themed birthday party there and they said no when I tried to book an area in advance. However, there is a good area upstairs available to hire, which, so long as you’re not dressed as rambo, richard III or a rollercoaster, you should be fine.
