Cafe Rouge - Cardiff

Mermaid Quay, Cardiff, Wales CF10 5BZ

19-11-2008 (updated on 26-11-2008)

I’m not very impressed with this chain, I found the food and service to be a bit lacking.
We went there as a family (me, hubbie and 4 kids) for an early lunch one day. The only reason we went in was because it was the nearest restaurant to where we had parked and it was pouring with rain and we were all hungry. It was very busy and we were really squeezed on to our table. Every time we had to get up to go to the loo (quite often with 4 children) we knocking over things on our table and the one next to us (sorry!). They were slow to take our order and then the food wad slow to arrive and turned up in dribs and drabs. I thought it was very expensive as well, especially the croque monsieur, which was little more than a prep-prepared reheated in the microwave cheese sandwich. I couldn’t really understand why they were so busy as none of our meals were up to much, so maybe we were just unlucky.
I won’t be going back to find out though!!

mitsubishi motors - Weston-super-Mare

Aisecombe Way, Weston-super-Mare BS22 8NA

I never thought I would rate a garage 5 out of 5!! But I think Mitsubishi motors in weston deserves it!! I’m judging them on their garage service (not sales, have never bought a car from them).

I’ve been taking my Mitsubishi to them for the past 3 years, reluctantly at first because I assumed being a dealership their prices would be high. I have been so impressed though. Their prices are very reasonable and they have never done any work on my car without phoning me first. The work they do is always excellent.

Their customer service is just fab, they always let me know what is happening and on the one occasion where they have been unable to get a part in time to return my car to me that day they have gone out of their way to offer me a courtesy car, offering to deliver it to my door as well!!
I don’t have some smart expensive car either, infact its a bit more of an antique! And any work they have done on my car has not been major (mostly MOTs and services), but they really seem to value my custom.

I can thoroughly recommend them to everyone.

Pizza Hut - Weston-super-Mare

Weston Links, Weston Links, Weston-super-Mare BS23 3WL

Good place to go with the children if you can find some vouchers or there is a specific deal on. Children always seem to enjoy. Bit expensive if you end up paying full price. I have always found staff to be helpful and polite and deal with my 4 noisy children very well without and raised eyebrows! Would warn anyone from having their new extra spicy tabasco pizza, me and my husband love spicy food, normally the hotter the better, but this pizza was hotter than anything we had ever tasted.
Toilet facilities ok, and they never seem too busy although we tend to go quite early in the evening or at lunchtime.

Puxton Park - Weston-super-Mare

Cowslip Lane, Weston-super-Mare BS24 6AH

Good place to take the children although day entry can be expensive. The membership deal is a better option if you are local. Inside and outside areas are well maintained, and facilities are all clean and tidy.

Inside there is a multi level play area with death slide and long multi lane bumpy slide, it’s all great fun and adults are allowed on too. Outside there is a huge inflatable pillow thing to bounce on - best fun ever!! There is also pets corner where you can stroke the animals and pony rides at certain times of the day. There should be a dairy as well but I think that has still not opened yet.

If taking toddlers try and go during school hours when much quieter. Basic food served in the play barn, but really nice local food served in restaurant. Farm shop is also good. Can take picnics but must eat them outside.

frankie and benny's - Bristol

The Venue Merlin Road, Bristol BS10 7SR

I’m not normally too keen on chained restaurant but I think this Frankie and Bennys is ok.
I’ve been there several times in the early evening with friends, I found it good because of the easy parking, plus its somewhere most people know how to get to.
The menu is the standard fare but they do have some good offers and meal deals which make the cost quite reasonable.
Service usually ok, held a very helpful server onve when I was there for lucnhc with my baby.
Toilets are clean and the restaurant is kept clean and tidy.
There are some tables outside which is great for a summer evening.
The food is tasty, hot and generous, I cynically don’t expect much more than that from a chain! I have to admit though that their pudding can be rather nice!
Handy if you have just been shopping at the Mallwhich is just next door or planning on going to the cinema.

Druckers Vienna Patisserie - Weston-super-Mare

High Street, Weston-super-Mare BS23 1HL

19-11-2008

There is a definate lack of places to go for coffee in weston. I’ve narrowed it down to M&S, Costa in Waterstones and Druckers, nut maybe I’m being narrow minded?
I think Druckers is good but it would greatly benefit from a few more light bulbs! It is very dark and dreary and gives a really bad first impression because of this. However if you can see past the dimness its an ok cafe.
They do an amazing hot chocolate with loads of cream, and the cream is the proper stuff not the aerated pretend stuff you get in a can! Whenever I eat there I tend to go for Jacket potato as this seems to be the best value for money and is always tasty and fills me up.
They do quite a good childrens menu as well which my little ones have, I think its a choice of half jacket potato, toasted sarnie, or a bit of pizza, but its served with a drink and little homemade biccie. My children always seem happy with this and eat the lot (Although they do also seem to take most of the cream from my hot choccie!)
There are no toilets in the cafe although the public ones within the sovereign centre are not too far. There’s usually plenty of spare tables and lots of high chairs.
Worth a visit if you are stuck where to go for coffee or lunch.

playspace - Bristol

85 BARROW ROAD, Bristol BS5 0AE

19-11-2008

I’ve only recently discovered this play area and thinks its fab. Its an indoor play area for children up to the age of about 10. It’s very similar to wacky warehouse, jump and places like that.
I found it to be very clean and well organised and my children loved it. The staff were all very good and it wasn’t too expensive and the toilets were lovely and clean.
The areas are separated a bit with some age ranges on them so if you had young children they shouldn’t end up getting trampled on by older children!
The best bit was the cafe and the comfortable sofas! It was great to be able to slump on a sofa with a latte and yummy cake whilst my children were all happily playing thinking I was the best mum in the world.
They do more substantial food which I was impressed with, it was healthy and home made and best of all my children ate it.
I will definately be taking them here again

Deco Lounge - Bristol

50 Cotham Hill, Bristol BS6 6JX

19-11-2008

This is a great place to go for coffee or a glass of wine, breakfast, cake, meal, anything infact!!
I even went there when I was in labour to have breakfast before going on to the hospital, and I had a very healthy bowl of muesli with yogurt which kept me full of energy for the hours that lay ahead!
Although this place looks quite small from the front its a bit of a tardis inside and I’ve always manged to get me and my 4 children (plus pushchair) in no problem. Food is great and they now do a childrens menu I think and baby changing facilities.
I’ve also been there in the evening with friends when the atmosphere changes from being bright and breezy to cozy and atmospheric. Its great to meet up with a couple of friends and hide in one of the corners for some tapas and glasses of wine.
Staff always seem to be accommodating and general buzz in their is friendly.
The toilets are a bit of a walk down to the basement so you may need to keep your legs crossed!

McArthur Glen Designer Outlet - Bridgend

The Derwen, Bridgend, Bridgend, Wales CF32 9SU

19-11-2008

I discussed with my children how many stars we should give McArthur Glen and they unanimously shouted 5!! When I asked why, they all said because of the play area!!

It really is a good place to go as you can bribe the children to behave in the morning by offering to take them to McDonalds for lunch and then tell them if they behave in the afternoon t hey can go to the play aera for 30 minutes before going home!! It all works out great for us!! We normally squeeze in a coffee at Costa as well!

There is a good range of shops there including Marks and Spencers and Next (although I admit to finding Next a bit of a jumble sale), you can get bargain clothes, homeware, small electricals, books, art supplies, undies, just about everything at discounted prices.

They have a good food area with a mix of trashy and healthy foods and a cinema above it (great if your children are older as they can be dropped off at the cinema whilst you shop).

Marks & Spencer - Patchway

The Mall, Bristol BS34 5QT

19-11-2008

I really like Marks at the Mall, its a very good all round store whcih is big enough to have a bit of everything. Obviously everything is kept well maintained and the toilets are great as always with M&S.
The best thing about this Marks is the Deli restaurant within the food hall. If you can’t decide where to go for lunch if you are in the Mall and you want to treat yourself, go there. It has quite a small menu but it is all freshly prepared, and a lt of the preperation goes on right in front of you.
The best thing though is sitting up on the high chairs pretending you are actually somewhere like Harrods and watching other jealous shoppers who are frantically rushing around to get their shopping.
The downfalls is that they often seem to run out of foof (very strange as it is situated within the food hall!) and it can be a little chilly sometimes with the air conditioning and you are sitting near the refridgerated cabinets.
