The Sundial - South Shields
Sea Road, South Shields NE33 2LD
23-05-2009
This is a large pub right on the coast/beach. The parking is not free, so if you remember to get your ticket you should have an enjoyable visit. This pubs food is very good. They have a very varied menu. The best bit about this pub is that the meals come out on those huge plates/bowls/troughs that some pubs do. The grills are good too. Extra large all the way here. There is a small soft play pit in there that is free and a few arcade rides for the kids. There are two pool tables also for the adults. Service is fine. Gets very busy on a sunday! but well worth a visit.
Marsden Inn - South Shields
Redwell Lane, South Shields NE34 7JS
23-05-2009
An old fashioned looking pub situated on the roundabout of redwell lane and marsden lane next to the famous steep drop at the end of the great north run route. Right next to the beach also. Though the decor hasn’t been updated in years this doesn’t matter as the food is delicious. By far one of the best pubs in south shields to eat at. They have a sizzler menu that’s delicious and comes with home made chips that are to die for. They also have a kids menu and a varied specials board though the kids portions are huge. The food is fresh and wholesome -even the kids nuggets are proper chicken in batter rather than nasty processed rubbish that you get heated up for you in some places! The service is friendly and fast. Excellent pub grub.
Jarrow town centre - Jarrow
Jarrow town centre, Jarrow NE32 3AJ

I love Jarrow town centre - or the viking centre which it it known as. It has everything you need in quite a compact space, so there’s not a lot of walking to do to get round the shops which is also great if you have small children. The larger main stores are morrisons, boots, superdrug, b and m bargains, wilkinsons, peacocks, new look, argos and at the top end is home bargains. Amongst these shops are many other smaller outlets including bakers and a butchers. There isn’t a lot of choice for sit down meals but there is a morrisons cafe and one pub that serves family food. The best thing about Jarrow is that parking is free and there are plenty places to park too. Saves you lots of walking time so worth a visit.
