Pappadums - Brentford

GC1&GC2 Ferry Quays, Ferry Lane, London TW8 0BT

15-12-2012

I always forget about this restaurant as it is tucked away behind Ferry Quays.  The curry has always been good, although not sure if they do take away.  The price is on the higher end so I often use Sami's Place on the high Street (BYOB brings the price down substantially).

Fat Boys - Brentford

68 High Street, London TW8 0AA

14-12-2012

It standard Thai food.  Thankfully I like standard Thai cuisine.  Although the competition with the BYOB Thai opened down the road at Kew Bridge is good.  The BYOB is a bit of a winner but still use Fat Boys when trekking over to East Brentford is too much.

The Weir - Brentford

24 Market Place, London TW8 8EQ

OK for a pint of Erdinger in the summer sitting in the beer garden.  Chateaubriand is good but at £45 you are paying more in this pub than in a Mitchelin Star restaurant over the road in Chiswick's Le Vacherin (not on menu at the moment from what I can tell though but recently I remember they had priced it around £40).  I'll visit this place occasionally when I don't fancy trecking out to Chiswick or Richmond and fancy an Erdinger and a bit of steak.

The Marlborough - Richmond

Great beer garden in the summer.  Nice staff, good service and nice pub food.

Maki Japanese Restaurant - Richmond

Kew Road, Richmond , London TW9 2PJ

I had lunch here recently and would have to give them top marks for the quality of food and the service.  I was a bit worried at first due to the lack of customers but was surprised will a superb lunch.  Will be back here again when I am in Richmond and fancy Sushi.

The Cape Bar - City of London

Corner of Wood Street and Love Lane, London EC2V 7RF

Beware of the poor service here.  If I ran this business I would be looking at hiring McDonald's staff to come in and train them up.  There was complete disorganisation behind the bar and in the kitchen.  Booked a table for 14, 2 left when they realised we had to all order seperately behind the busy bar.  The food all came a different times, and ended up some people finishing their meal before most had received their meal.  2 people waited around for an hour and a half and still no food turned up.  Luckily mine arrived after a 50 minute wait.  Was it worth it?  I'd rather have trecked over in the rain to McDonalds in Chancery Lane than wait around for a greesy burger at Cape.  The service would have been a lot better at McDonalds, and the decor could arguably be better too.  The London Pride at Cape was okay, lacking a smile from the barmaid though.  It could have been worse had i pulled the short straw.   I could have been the one with no lunch, wasted a couple of hours of my time, having paid upfront and had a confrontation with some moody and disorganised bar staff over receiving a refund.

Miran Masala - West Kensington

3 Hammersmith Road, Kensington, London W148XJ

Great value for money.  65p for a popadum. £2.50 for a plate of onion bajee which was enough to feed three.  The Chilli Chicken was very tasty as was the Bhindi Bajee and my only criticism was that the Lamb Jalfrazi had a bit too much Ghee for my liking.  No corkage charged was a bonus, as well as the good service.

Maharaja Tandoori - Bayswater

50 Queensway, Paddington, London W2 3RY

We were tricked into this restaurant from the look of it from the outside and the fact that it was busy and the menu seemed pricy (which we thought would mean quality food).  From my experience of eating Indian cuisine all over the UK and in India, this has got to be the worst curry in life ever!  My Lamb Tikka was a tiny portion of two cubes, the quality of the lamb was poor and consisted of mainly fat, and the taste was sweet which is wierd for a lemb tikka.  My Paneer main course was the worst Paneer dish I have ever come accross, it was sickly.  The service was poor, and the papadums were the nicest part of the meal - but the papadums cost a fortune here which is why they kept wanting to fill be up with them.  Overall a crap place, no, I'll go even further very crap!

Sagar - Hammersmith

157 King Street, Hammersmith, London W6 9JT

Took about an hour so quite hungry when it came. Food was good, but I like my food spicy. Unfortunately the Paneer Dosa was very mild and tasteless.

Dancing Elephant - Wimbledon

Wimbledon, London SW19 8LG

Late, bad and awful.  I'm hungry and out of pocket.

Unfortunately this was a robbery.  Manager to call back - did not happen!

Look at the photos of grease - not curry! - my paneer, chicken, and dal all look the same!  Heart attack!  photoJPGphotoJPG
