    Bleeding Heart Restaurant & Bistro

Third time at the Bleeding Heart, and unfortunately things are going downhill…
This week we were a party of 9 for dinner, and most of us were disappointed with the food. My starter of raw tuna was distinctively grey. Main course of rump steak was so tough I struggled to slice through it. Cheese platter was measly, served with grapes that were probably in good shape a week ago. Service was ok, but could be more attentive. Shame, they could do so much better.

    "The Gherkin" (Swiss Re Tower)

Beyond being a fantastic modern landmark for Londoners, the Gherkin is also a great venue for a party. I recently went to a corporate launch there, and was impressed. Hire the 2 top floors, place a string quartet as your welcome crew outside the lifts, and serve great hors d’oeuvres…if you are lucky enough to pick a sunny day, the views are amazing.
One small warning: the glass roof transforms the top floor into a greehouse. The men in suit were looking increasingly uncomfortable as the evening progressed. And not the best place either for an ice sculpture!

Wonderful Indian restaurant specialising in North Indian cuisine; had the best monkfish ever and delicious king prawn dish. Spicy is really spicy so beware.
Neutral but stylish contemporary decor and good service.

Very traditional and quaint hotel very well located in the centre of the town; tartan decor - but still tasteful. Large amounts of free alcohol available both in the rooms and the club lounge. Possibly a bit pricey - especially if you dont drink.

Old fashioned hotel nicely located on a side street near Russell Square; quiet location, good service but the decor is terribly old. Worth it if you get a good rate. Meeting rooms tend to be in the lower ground floor, which means they all have very little natural light and the ceilings are also very low.

A bit of a weird hotel: it’s like stepping back into the ‘80’s. The decor is not ageing too well, but the view from the top floors is still as spectacular as ever. Good service. The panoramic bar on the top floor is worth a visit. The view is amazing but beware, the drinks are expensive and the decor is almost frightening.

I recently went back to the Buddha Bar - after many years - and it is still a great place for an informal dinner. Good bar, very pleasant and efficient service, great decor. The food is good but possibly not as good value for money as it used to be. We were a large group and shared a lot of dishes, most of them very good but a couple were disappointing (duck was so tough that no one managed to cut it). Overall a fun place with good atmosphere.

Probably one of the worst meals I ever had in Paris; on the positive side the restaurant has an interesting modern minimalist decor and great location. But the food is terrible! The starter salad was bland; the main course of salmon was overcooked and the desert was tough and a bit stale. To add to the disappointment the service was slow, inattentive and borderline rude.

Very convenient hotel for exhibitions at Earl's Court (gets booked up quickly); the large Victorian facade is imposing but decor inside is quietly minimalistic.
Good coffee/bar on the ground floor, great place for a quiet meeting.
Rooms are sensibly priced for the area.

1pxt shopaholic last updated on 19-01-2008:

We stumbled on Sartoria one evening last week, quite by accident. The restaurant is a bit tucked away on a street corner but worth the walk.
Decor inside is contemporary and comfortable; in spite of the large size of the room, it is a very good place for quiet conversation.
Food is a mixture of traditional and contemporary Italian with an international twist. I had a fantastic starter of salt beef, blood orange and spinach salad. My main course of pollock was a bit bland, but the beef was superb and the lobster pasta dish looked just as great.
A lovely place for dinner, a few steps away from the eponymous Abercrombie store.
