The Episode Hotel - Leamington Spa
64 Upper Holly Walk, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire CV32 4JL

robbierobb Hi Sleepless. I just saw your review of Clarendon Lodge and wondered where the better GP you found is…. I recently moved to the area and really need a good, supportive doctor who will work with someone who does not want a standard pharmaceutical approach…! I’d really appreciate and pointers!

Sydenham Balti & Pizza - Leamington Spa
7 Stanleys Court, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire CV31 1NL

Balti and Pizza might seem like an odd combination, but they do at least half of it well (haven’t tried the curry). It may not look much from the outside, but I had one of their pizzas last night and really enjoyed it. It was cheaper than a standard Domino’s/Pizza Hut and at least as good. They run a 'Buy one get one free’ offer which they state is 'any pizza any size’, but after confirming this was the case, they then told me it didn’t apply to small ones. Any medium or large pizza is BOGOF though. Prices are good, the pizza was very cheesy, I’ll be going back. Takeaway only.
White Hart - Wood Street Village

This is a really nice, traditional kind of country pub. It has open fires, wood beams, that kind of thing. It’s never been massively hectic when I’ve been there, even on their very popular quiz nights. The beer is pretty good, the prices are typical for the Guildford area. It’s not a huge place, but is all just based on one large room. Has a few quiz machines, but I don’t remember it ever being a noisy place. Not a place to go for a wild night out, but if you fancy a few quiet drinks in a pleasant and relaxed surroundings, then this is definitely one to consider
Kings Head - Guildford
52 Quarry Street, Guildford, Surrey GU1 3XQ
21-01-2009
The King’s Head was a staple of my teenage days, and having been back recently - it has changed not a bit. Not even the music, so it’s great if you like late 90s Brit Pop. Don’t worry though, it’s not usually heavily populated by teenagers - it has a wide range of clientele and is usually fairly busy, but not totally thronging. It’s a warm kind of place, a bit like someone’s lounge, complete with carpets and a log fire. Food is also very good. Has a couple of quiz machines. The prices are not wonderful, but they could certainly be worse.
George Abbott - Guildford
7-11 High Street, Guildford, Surrey GU2 4AB
21-01-2009
The George Abbott is one of those pubs that ends up so heaving on a Friday and Saturday night that there is barely standing room, and they do resort to a one-in, one-out if need be. It’s up to you whether you like that sort of thing! If you can get in early and grab yourself a table it can make for a great atmosphere, if you are standing and having your arm knocked and having to shout above the noise, maybe not to much! During the day it is quiet and a nice place to hang out. It’s in a good spot near the river, near the centre of town, and there is car parking outside - but this also fills up really early on.
Next - Leamington Spa
Shires Retail Park, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire CV31 3JL
21-01-2009
This Next is a much better shopping experience than the one in town. Since it is on a retail park, they have much more space - and it shows. There is plenty of space between the aisles, yet they have a lot more stock. It’s very easy to navigate by buggy, since you can get between the rows easily, and there is a lift if you need anything upstairs. Happily, the children’s department is on the ground floor, which is a rare luxury in Leamington. Doesn’t seem to get as manically busy as the other branch either.
The Old Coach House - Avoca
Meeting of the Waters, Avoca
21-01-2009
The Old Coach House - Avoca
Meeting of the Waters, Avoca

This place is set in The Meeting of the Waters, a spot which is very pretty and the location for a famous poem (though I didn’t know it - you can find it on a big plaque by the actual meeting of the waters though). The Old Coach House is not quite as old and traditionally Irish as I might have liked - for one thing the hosts are very nice but they’re not locals. It has been nicely done out. Our room was a bit small, but it was clean and everything was good quality, so it was still a pleasant place to be. There’s a good roaring fire to enjoy downstairs. It’s easy to get out for good walks from here, the hosts were very helpful telling us about good trails to find, including the mines. Just down the road is Avoca, known to many of us as Ballykissangel.
Express by Holiday Inn Bristol - Bristol
Temple Gate, Bristol BS1 6PL

Stayed here recently after a friend’s wedding. It’s clean, tasteful - bland and boring, exactly what you’d expect from a corporate hotel. It’s pretty cheap and it’s really central, so it’s a good deal, it’s just not exciting. On the plus side, it does include breakfast, which is 'continental’ style but plentiful and fresh. It also has car parking available - technically this is limited but they also have a deal with the next door council car park. They can also help out with travel cots if asked and they have a good lift, so our son was fine staying here.
