Rialto Ristorante Pizzeria - Wandlitz
Prenzlauer Chaussee 123, 16348 Wandlitz

The kitsch 'little Italy' interior (all leaning towers and wax-covered wine bottles) is endearing, and the service friendly and efficient. There's a nice, large conservatory at the front, where you can enjoy watching lorries at the busy junction.
The food is typical German-town Italian, so expect a big dollop of joghurt sauce on your insalata mista. We both had pasta dishes that were pleasant enough, and prices are reasonable.

Never had Malaysian food before but really enjoyed eating here last night. Large portions, fresh home-cooked taste and super friendly and helpful service.
We went for the vegetarian set menu: £18 a head including 3 courses and a bellini. Main course was 4 sharing dishes (veg curry, spicy aubergine, garlic cabbage and chilli tofu) with jasmine rice. Each dish tasted fantastic.
Restaurant was busy with mostly locals or Malaysians, which must be a good sign. Decor is a bit '80's green' but the great food means they are forgiven for that ;)

After a hot tip from my hairdresser ("best curry in Haslemere") we headed here on a quiet Sunday night. Small restaurant in the middle of the village but clearly popular with the locals and had several tables taken.
Standard curry house menu, but the food was fresh and very "home made" tasting, which is no bad thing at all. Reasonable prices and friendly service - we'll be coming again.
Bonnington Cafe - Vauxhall

Wonderful cafe which provides a welcome respite from the South Lambeth Road gloom. Tiny daily menu features two mains, two desserts and a couple of smoothies, and the food today was delicious.
Friendly service and great chilled out vibes... this place is fab!
Cafe Tusk - Fareham

Huuuge restaurant, modern and clean but inevitably lacking in atmosphere. £13 a head per person for dinner (£14 at weekends) means it's no cheaper than a normal curry house once you add the cost of drinks. But you can eat unlimited amounts from the buffet - I had 3 platefulls and had to call it a day :)
The food is ok. Because the dishes are for everyone, expect the curries to be a bit bland. Nan breads don't work well under hot lights either. But there is a good selection of starters, mains and dessert including some unusual choices: noodles, banana fritters.
I'd still prefer Indian food from a menu, but this is a decent place for something quick.
The Roadmaker Inn - Whitehill

This used to be the rather grotty Prince of Wales pub, but was recently taken over by 4 ex-Ghurkas and converted into a Nepalese restaurant.
Very friendly, nice atmosphere and you can see through to the spotless kitchen. The food is fantastic too - fresh and succulent.
There are several Nepalese places around this part of Hampshire but this is one of the best. I hope the place is a huge success :)
Zeitgeist @ The Jolly Gardener - Lambeth

Love this place. Nice vibes, friendly German staff, lovely selection of beers, really decent food.
It is a weird location, but only 5 mins walk from Vauxhall station and well worth the trip :)
Nar Restaurant & Bar - Lambeth
80-81 Albert Embankment, Lambeth, London SE1 7TT

Now I know that an office Christmas lunch the week before Christmas, surrounded by loads of other office parties, isn't the best way to sample a restaurant. Staff are run off their feet, nobody can remember what food they pre-ordered, bills have to be split between 15, etc. But this experience of Nar was so bad, I have to wonder whether a normal setting would be much better...
Two stars because my vegetable moussaka was quite nice. Nothing special, but pleasant enough. But the meat and fish dishes served to my colleagues ranged from burnt to cold to undercooked chicken to "erm could I have vegetable moussaka instead?". And then the desserts. Two tiny pieces of bog-standard baklava, or school-dinner apple crumble with custard (mostly gone cold) or Iceland-looking cheesecake.
Probably won't be going back.
Queens Hotel - Selborne

After a depressing family meal here a couple of years ago, we dropped by to see if things had improved. Sunday lunchtime on a beautiful day, directly opposite a busy National Trust tourist attraction... and only one table taken. That's not a good sign.
Judging by the cars parked around it, the village's other pub up the road is doing a roaring trade.
The Queens Hotel interior is nice enough, with roaring log fire and Christmas music playing etc. Food is passable, if a bit overpriced. Aloof landlady clearly thinks she deserves a better class of customer. Teenage staff boredly eating crisps behind the bar.
So still depressing, basically ;)
Mango Room - Camden

Love this place. Nice vibes, friendly and efficient staff, excellent food.
Good vegetarian options and heavenly desserts - the warm chocolate and coconut cake is recommended :) Great cocktail menu too.
Not quite a budget option (starters £5-7, main dishes £11-15) but well worth it. We left with happy warm feelings.
