Toys 'R' Us - Westbrook

610 Europa Boulevard, Warrington, Cheshire WA5 7TT

20-11-2008

I’ve been here on many occasions and the choice of toys is second to none. It is a very large store and the stock of toys is excellent. The children love going there and trying different toys and then it gives us ideas when myself and my wife go back ourselves. The staff have always been good with us and the car parking is good too.

During the Christmas period they take on a lot of temporary workers, so if you are looking for a part time job - check it out!!
The downside is that if you want any advice and you choose the wrong person of staff, at that time of year, the advice isn’t always the best. Look for somebody more experienced.

Early Learning Centre - Liverpool

5 New Mersey Retail Park, Speke Road Speke, Liverpool, Merseyside L24 8QB

20-11-2008

I have had a very positive experience with this particular store, although I’m sure they are all the same. It is modern and the staff are extremely friendly. It is situated on a retail parking is right outside the door - although on some days it can get very busy and you need to walk a little bit.

On one occasion I had cause to call the store to check stock. The young lady was extremely helpful. The phone was answered very quickly and after I explained I had called in on a number of occasions looking for a particular toy, she put it to one side for me. That is a company going the extra mile!

Sadly they drop 2 stars on my review because of lack of stock.

Currys - Liverpool

New Mersey Retail Park, Speke Road Speke, Liverpool, Merseyside L24 8QB

20-11-2008

Since another very large competitor of Currys decided to mislead me with a particular credit agreement, I have always shopped at this Currys. I love this store. It is huge and the staff are great.

Last year I bought a TV, Hoover and a PC from here. I will always shop here.

The shop is also kept very clean and the choice is magnificient. On one occasion I needed to bring a faulty item back. They could not have been more helpful. A quick exchange was order of the day.

Outside you will find lots of car parking space and if you buy anything that you can’t carry, they will gladly do it for you. An example of how all shops should be.

Childwall Library - Liverpool

Childwall Fiveways, Liverpool, Merseyside L15 6YG

15-11-2008 (updated on 20-11-2008)

A very 'tired’ library situated close to Childwall Fiveways and Childwall School. The library is very much dated and dull and not a pleasant way to spend your day. If anywhere is to be called 'sick building syndrome’ I would say this should be.

I understand from the local papers that the local council are looking to carry out a complete modernisation of the building. So it appears they also agree that Childwall Library is past its sell by date.

Positives are that it is shortly to be modernised. It also has a computer suite and a good selection of books. There are also many different classes held here - including computers for berginners.

Adequate Car parking facilities.

Argos - Prescot

2 Cables Retail Park, Steley Way, Prescot, Merseyside L34 5NQ

20-11-2008

Well it sounds like the previous reviewer has had some bad experiences, something I never have. I have found the store very big with lots of magazines and plenty of slips/pens. It is always clean too.

I often use the quick pay machines. It allows you reserve at home and pay by card. I find this the quickest way of getting in and out of the store.

Yes it does get very busy at Christmas but I have alawys found that they employ more staff at this time of year. The staff always seem to have a smile on their faces too. As you can guess Argos is one of my favourite stores.

Plenty of parking outside and being on a retail park it is often open very late too - except Sundays obviously!!

Homerange Fireplace Studio - Wavertree

238 Picton Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L15 4LP

18-11-2008

I have nothing but praise for this local company. I bought a piece of marble backing along with a marble hearth about 12 months ago. There were so many different pieces you could choose from and they would even cut them to size for you.

Sadly I measured my fieplace incorrectly. Yes me. No them, and when the marble was delivered it wouldn’t fit.

They were quite within their rights to say 'tough’ it is your fault. But they didn’t and couldn’t help enough. They gladly recut the marble at no extra cost, and did it all within a couple of days. Their customer services was second to none.
They also sell fires.

I would definately use them again and would recommend anybody else does the same.

Merseyside Maritime Museum - Liverpool

Albert Dock, Liverpool, Merseyside L3 4AN

18-11-2008

This museum is situated in the Albert Dock, very close to the Pumphouse pub. It is free entry and is based over a number of floors in an old warehouse. Don’t worry though, it is all modern now, with lifts and restaurants etc.

On the ground floor you will find the entrance and the shops were you can buy souvenirs. You will also find the Smugglers Exhibition showing how drugs and drink/cigarettes are (and were) smuggled into the country.

On another floor you will be able to educate yourself with the Slavery Exhibition. It shows pictures and also has reconstructed the effects of a boat were the slaves would be held whilst travelling over the Atlantic.

When I went they also had an exhibition on Cotton explaining how it is made. Fascinating stuff.

Well worth a visit, especially if when you come to Liverpool it is raining.

Llandudno Cable Car - Llandudno

Happy Valley, Llandudno, Wales LL30 2XF

17-11-2008

We loved travelling on the cable cars. Well when I see 'we’, I mean the family. Myself I’m actually quite scared of heights so it wasn’t really my cup of tea. The cars themselves are quite dated and are not cheap. Also bear in mind that they can stop early at certain times of the year so it is important to check when they finish.

The views (for those who dare look) are awsome, as you time scend or descend up the mountain.

I wasn’t keen on the queuing time either for the cars. In our case it was about 30 minutes. But my wife was keen to point out that wherever you go 'there are queues’.

Sports Soccer - Liverpool

3 New Mersey Retail Park, Speke Road Speke, Liverpool, Merseyside L24 8QB

17-11-2008

You’ll find this shop in the far corner of the retail park - not far from Next. It is a very large sports shop on two floors. As well as lots of clothing etc you can also buy most other sporting goods ranging from footballs, hockey sticks, cricket balls etc. It can look quite scruffy in my opinion. It is very packed and there are usually items stocked high in boxes and racks overflowing. Most of the items have a large discount so I don’t really care.

For those with children there is a lift to go upstairs, rather than struggle up the stairs. If you’re looking for cheap sporting stuff, this is definately the place to go.

Mersey Ferries - Liverpool

Pier Head, Georges Parade, Pier Head, Liverpool, Merseyside L3 1DP

15-11-2008 (updated on 17-11-2008)

The famous 'ferry across the mersey’. Can’t visit Liverpool without having a ride on a ferry. You can simply pay for a trip to the Wirral and back or you can pay for a 'cruise’. The latter is just a bit of a longer journey. You also get a recorded commentory pointed out some of the cities landmarks etc. You will also get to hear the Gerry and the Pacemakers singing #Ferry across the Mersey - not live of course but on a recording.

On nice days it is great to go upstairs on the deck. If it is raining you have a choice to go inside the ferry below. It is a bit warmer in here and there is adequate seating. If you do go on deck be careful with the children as it can get them choppy.
