Staggs Bar - Musselburgh
81 North High Street, Musselburgh, Scotland EH21 6JE

Agree with previous reviewer - this is a great wee bar, and serves a fantastic selection of real ales.No wonder it has won so many awards - they are well deserved.
Lanna Cafe - Musselburgh
32 Bridge Street, Musselburgh, Scotland EH21 6AG

Looks like a fairly ordinary run of the mill cafe, but produces Thai food to die for! If you like Thai cuisine, try the Lanna Thai. The food is gorgeous - and the staff are always willing to explain dishes to you or recommend accompaniments to go with a particular dish.
The Shish Mahal - Musselburgh
63a High Street, Musselburgh, Scotland EH21 7BZ

Very good Indian restaurant, which offers wide range of dishes, all freshly cooked and the staff are also very helpful and friendly too. Buffet is good value for money as well.
Cafe S Luca - Musselburgh
34 High Street, Musselburgh, Scotland EH21 7AG

Luca's are famed for their ice cream and the queues outside, even in winter, are testament to this. They have a fabulous range from flavours from the traditional favourites like vanilla, strawberry and chocolate to more unusual varieties such as Irn Bru and key lime pie. The cafe is very nice too - good range of dishes and we've never been disappointed.
Serenity - Dalkeith
52 Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, Scotland EH22 1AB

Good local beauty salon - prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent. I've had Minx nails done here twice and they have lasted much longer than I expected. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, but not pushy - they don't try to talk you into buying products you don't need or having extra treatments, which I have had in other places.
The Cavalier - Dalkeith
122 High Street, Dalkeith, Scotland EH22 1AU

Great selection of pizzas and pasta dishes - the Thursday buffets are fabulous and excellent value too. The Cavaliere has been going for years and rarely disappoints - the staff are always very friendly too, and they're especially good with children. Nice ice creams and desserts too!
Memories of India - Gorebridge
4 Newtonloan Toll, Gorebridge, Scotland EH23 4LZ

Great local Indian restaurant and takeaway - we usually order takeaways and delivery is usually reasonably quick. Never had a disappointing meal from here - great selection of dishes and accompaniments.
Morellis Fast Food - Gorebridge
3 Main Street, Gorebridge, Gorebridge, Scotland EH23 4BX
10-07-2011
Have to agree with the previous reviewer - it has definitely gone downhill now that it's no longer run by the Morelli family themselves. Everything used to be very fresh and not at all greasy - the pizzas and kebabs in particular were lovely - but we hardly ever get anything from there now, as the past few times we have had anything, it's been very disappointing.
Vogrie Country Park - Gorebridge
Vogrie House, Gorebridge, Scotland EH23 4NU

Definitely one of Midlothian's hidden gems. As others have said - great adventure playground for the children and smaller playpark for the wee ones, as well as Vogrie House and the Cedar Tree Cafe and the garden nursery. However, there's so much more to Vogrie than just the main walks - and I think some people tend to stick to the area around the house itself and not venture further afield, which is a pity. Taking some of the longer walks down into the Tyne valley and beyond is like stepping into a different world - you often see deer and other wildlife and it's very peaceful and tranquil. One of our favourite places to walk the dog - and he loves Vogrie too!
sun inn - Eskbank
Dalkeith, Scotland EH22 4TR
10-07-2011
Completely agree with the previous reviewers. Not a fan of the "Gastropub" tag, but the Sun Inn is so much more than that. The food is absolutely superb - freshly cooked, more often than not locally sourced and some nice, imaginative touches on the menu without being pretentious.
