The best £4.95 I have spent visiting a historic building in a longtime. A fine example of beautifully restaured building, with very good information on the house and the work involved. The house is quite big and there is a lot to read, see and learn. Recommended visit if you are interested in history and Elizabethan life.

What a good find this was for us! Late in the afternoon, desperate for somewhere to stay, on a very empty and cold A5, a motel by the side of the road…It turns out this is the only residential dru yoga taining place in the UK, and they had a spare room for the night. Staff are so welcoming, so friendly, and the other people there were also so cheerful! We were invited to share dinner at the vegetarian cafe(the butternut squash and split peas bake was a revelation)and had a really nice chat with a lady who turns out to be … I let you find out for yourself. The accomodation itself is 2 stars, there are no TVs in the bedrooms- perfect to find yourself-, but finding hot water bottles in the wardrobe was great!
The grounds and the surroundings are STUNNING! There is a brook on the side of the lodge, a calm garden, fields with jumping lambs(well, there was last week) and many other delightful corners to discover. This is a great place as a base for walkers who want somewhere quiet to rest overnight.

This little fine food shop has opened recently in a rather unlikely place as it is out of the way from the town center. Dried and tinned foods are on offer, as well as a rather good selection of nice olives, (including strange looking chili stuffed).Behind the counter you have a good choice of cakes, hand made chocolates, national and continental cheeses and hams (tasty). The little chocolates they had at Easter were scrumptious, albeit pricey. The best I have kept for the end though, as the shop has a little cafe side to it and serves the best coffees in town (see my reviews for Jailhouse and starbucks for comparison!)The mocha is a must. When it is sunny and quiet, sitting outside with a good drink makes up for the poor view on the road and is very nice way to relax. Service is good, the owner is very welcoming, taste before you buy is a good service for such a small shop. A new deli to support in my opinion.

I know the other reviews aren’t hat great, but we had lunch there, and it was a positive experience. We were very politely welcomed, served very rapidly and enjoyed a very decent drink. The portions were very large and the food was tasty. As it was mid-afternoon, the place was very quiet, but we were happy with that. The toilets were very clean, no smells anywhere as someone has reported.

Although the foood was correct, I cannot say that we had a good experience. We went in for dinner, 2 adults 2 children. We were given a table right in front of the cooking area, which could be considered as entertainment, but the staff were constantly turning around our table to come and pick up customers’ food. This became rapidly irritating. The staff were not very friendly, we had to ask for clean cutlery and one of the glasses still had lipstick around the rim. The waterjug we asked for was an old, cracked plastic jug and although it looked clean it left us unsure. We found the toilets cold, dingy and dirty. On the whole we agreed the place was not welcoming.

A great place to go to with or without children. The building is on top of a hill with a rather steepgradient, so pushchairs will feel heavy. The buildings and the exhibitions are very interesting. Go there to see the red ball drop at one pm or later in the evening when it’s dark to see the laser beam shine across the Thames towards Canary Warf.
We went to the planetarium for a show and loved it.

An amazing little shop for the crafty consumer. Choose wisely, compare and come out with very good bargains. But don’t be tempted by the food and drinks items…
And what happens to the VAT reduction…

I totally agree with SafeHaven on the subject of equal opportunities, good stocking and open tills. I am not so impressed with the cleanliness of the store and toilets, and find the shop unbearable at the week-end. But I don’t mind it so much at night when it is nearly empty.
The shop pharmacy and its long opening hours ought to be advertised more.

I found this place totally by accident, although I knew it was there. I just had not realied that they stocked fabric and sewing accessories. There is a very nice selection for crafters reasonably priced. A good little find.
