Sandown bay holiday chalets - Sandown

yaverland road, Sandown, Isle of Wight PO36 8QR

05-07-2010

We stayed here last year. The cottages are all very well appointed and very very close to all the main Sandown attractions so it's only a quick stroll. The cottages/chalets are clean and have everything you need to be comfortable. The beach at Sandown is amazingly white and clean and very expansive, there are plenty of things to do in Sandown, with it's mini golf, zoo, dinosaur museum and wonderful shops and pier. There are two mini golfs, one outside and one right on the pier which is indoors and really good fun. There are plenty of eateries and lots of gift shops and if you go at the right time of year in August you will get to see the parade which is just awesome with bands and floats etc. Highly recommended.

Diggerland: Medway Valley Leisure Park - Strood

Whitewall Road, Rochester ME2 4DZ

28-11-2008 (updated on 16-04-2009)

We were very disappointed, it was cheap to get in but then we found we had to pay for every ride inside as well, none of which I came across which was disabled friendly even though the site advertises that it is wheelchair friendly. Well it is if you just want to wheel around but none of the rides were possible sigh. Anyway we felt the staff were a bit rude and off hand too. Maybe we just went on a bad day, but we wouldn’t recommend.

Beamish: The North of England Open Air Museum - Beamish

Beamish, Stanley, Durham DH9 0RG

26-11-2008 (updated on 16-04-2009)

Tagged as 'the living museum’ by the locals, Beamish open air museum is a feast to behold filling the senses with sounds, smells and sights from times gone by. There are trams, people dressed in traditional costumes, farmhouses, women actually baking bread in the old fashioned way and you can watch and they give a talk to. There’s restored real houses, church and school yard where you can play little silly games. Then the best part for me was the main high street with bank, sweet shop and pub amongst many other shops and displays. It was almost too much to take in but we got round it all in about 6 hours, all walking (me in my wheelchair). It was fantastic but only visit when fine weather is forecast because it’s all outdoors, we were lucky it was very warm. One carer goes in free, good disabled facilities.

Robin Hill Countryside Adventure Park - Arreton

Downend, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 2NU

25-11-2008 (updated on 16-04-2009)

A fun place for all the family, lots of rides for the kids and adults alike, great little cafeteria. Wildlife and falconery on display. Wonderful open vistas of the countryside, be warned this place is very big so may exhaust you walking round.

woolworths - Bromley

53 to 57 high street, London BR1 1JY

26-11-2008 (updated on 15-01-2009)

Great store and huge inside. Set over 2 floors has lifts, stairs and escalators so everyone can gain access. Lots of room between the aisles so easy to get around in wheelchairs or with buggys. Stocks all the normal woolworths ranges and has a great home style section upstairs, I love this store and it’s right in the high street with other great shops near to the Glades mall.

A SAD FAREWELL TO ALL WOOLWORTHS

The New Ambassadors Theatre - Covent Garden

West Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9ND

14-01-2009

The theatre is very tiny and there’s no wheelchair access to any part of the theatre as there’s about 6 steps up to the circle and loads more down to the stalls. We went last Saturday to see Stomp which was excellent I must add everyone should see it so much fun. Anyhow although the theatre is not disabled friendly the staff were very helpful and even asked the theatre next door if I could use their disabled adapted loo as the Ambassador does not have one which is a shame. Anyhow the theatre next door obliged so I didn’t have an accident lol. All in all I think the staff were very helpful and they evey moved our seats to a more accessible row with more leg room but I still had to leave my wheelchair in the foyer and be manhandled up the stairs, not a pleasant experience.

Novello Theatre - Holborn

Aldwych, Charing Cross, London WC2B 4LD

21-12-2008

Went to the Novello just the other day to see Hamlet, was in my wheelchair and was a little worried because there wasn’t any flat access however the ushers were absolutely amazing and had a special machine for lowering wheelchairs down the stairs. I have to say it was a little scary at first and I felt like I was on an episode of Thunderbird’s but it was very ingenious and they were so helpful. The interior of the theater is spectacularly breathtaking and the performance was outstanding, recommended.

brighters So who was playing Hamlet? I’ve got tickets to see Jude Law to Hamlet at the Donmar some time in late summer 09! The best Shakespeare I’ve seen recently was Ian McKellan in King Lear and Patrick Stewart in Macbeth. Truly sinister.

Woburn Safari Park - Milton Keynes

Woburn Park, Milton Keynes MK17 9QN

04-12-2008

Woburn is a great place to take the whole family. One carer gets in free with blue badge and there’s plenty of good disabled facilities and access. The animals are great and we had some lovely food in the restaurant, a great day out.

Whipsnade Wild Animal Park - Dunstable

Whipsnade, Dunstable, Bedfordshire LU6 2LF

28-11-2008

You can’t fail to have fun here. With more than 2500 wild animals it surely is one of the largest wild animal and conservation parks in Europe. Set in picturesque parkland, we went on safari in the car and had great fun, not as good as longleat but a close 2nd. Carer goes in free, not cheap to get in for gifts or to eat but worth the extra.

Cotswold Motor Museum And Toy Collection - Bourton-on-the-Water

The Old Mill, Sherbourne Street, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire GL54 2BY

28-11-2008

Although the main focus is on motoring the museum has a toy collection which includes teddy bears, aeroplanes and rare pedal cars. Also it’s home to Brum a little yellow car from the childrens tv show which was filmed here. There’s no parking on site but there are pay and display car parks and some disabled bays onstreet nearby. Quaint little place well worth a look if you’re passing some great vehicles inside.
