This place used to be legendary for it’s steaks. I haven’t been in ages does anyone know if it is still a great place to eat??

You can’t have anything but a good time at this pub. Full on 24/7 party people who have a great sense of humour and work hard to keep the village pub going. The music is always good; the UFO link is a hoot and then there is the hen racing…..

It is closed while the new owner Irfan Shabir turns it into a takeaway for his successful restaurant up the road Maazi. He is planning to have it re-opened in the spring and if is current enterprise is anything to go by it will be good. Watch this space for a review.

Years ago most town centres had a little shop like this selling bric-a-brac and retro goodies. Then car boots came along and they all closed down. It is good to see this one thriving on Dale Road. There are plenty of bits and pieces to browse through and once you have finished you can always walk up the street a little and check out the second hand shop which also has the odd interesting bargain.

This is the best bookshop in Derbyshire and simply a pleasure to visit. You can spend hours browsing the shelves on what seems like endless floors off the lovely old staircase.
It is quirky and quaint but at the same time has all the books you could need and the staff are exceptionally helpful.
Make a day of it go along and have lunch in the lovely little cafe and then pop down the road to look around the other shops on offer in Cromford. -

I had my partner’s family tree framed here as a surprise and they couldn’t have been more helpful. They helped me choose a suitable frame and it was very reasonably priced and completed at short notice.
It is hidden away in Matlock between the lovely Park and Dale Road down a tiny lane. -

This is one of those pubs where you think twice about giving it a rating just in case anyone else finds out about it.
We had been meaning to go there for months having once passed it on a walk near Birchover.
When we finally made it we were not disappointed and had one of the best lunchtime drinks in a long time.
The regulars there were inclusive and entertaining – and a right old laugh to be honest.
The food was good (just a fish finger cob but the bacon butties looked tasty) and a realistic price – not much over a couple of quid.
The fire was lit and the landlord was cheery. I will be going back. -

This is probably the best pub in Matlock Bath – especially if you like beer. What I like about it is that it has that real pub feel and hasn’t got amateur contemporary art all over the walls.
Good old fashioned bar with comfy and clean seats and tables. What more could you ask for. -

I love browsing in this shop it is stacked full of gift ideas – especially stocking filler type stuff. It is also brilliant for jigsaw puzzles and there are some fun ones as well as the normal scenic puzzles you get in other shops. I am not in to Airfix kits myself but if you are this is the best place in Matlock for choice. It is also very reasonable for diaries and Filofax. It is just up from the post office.

The food if fantastic at this cute little cafe and made all the better if it keeps your veggie lunch partner happy into the bargain!!
Check out the gorgeous cakes from the Pink Cake Box run by the owner’s daughter Rose.
