Restaurant Zum weissen Schwan - Inh. Losand Katharina - Bad Doberan
Am Markt 9, Zum Weissen Schwan, 18209 Bad Doberan
14-05-2008
Lovely restaurant on the Markt in Bad Doberan (approx 15 km from Rostock). The restaurant offers 3 set menus and several a la carte options all of which feature fresh produce from local farmers. The menus are reasonably priced and the service is very friendly. The beer and wine list was disappointing, but otherwise this is a charming place for a quiet romantic dinner.
elbotel Hotel-Restaurant - Rostock
Fritz-Triddelfitz-Weg 2, 18069 Rostock
14-05-2008
This is not the most charming hotel ever - certainly nothing like one would hope to find in a town like Rostock / Warnemünde - BUT the elbotel is very clean, very inexpensive (51 euros/night!) and has rooms available for a very last-minute trip on a holiday weekend in Germany (an extremely attractive quality!). The staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the area, and there is even a cute beer garden on the property. All-in-all a nice place to stay if you aren’t planning on spending much time in the room.
Thai Square - Windsor
29 Thames Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1PR
02-04-2008
Lovely Thai restaurant located in the High Street in Windsor in the shadow of Windsor Castle. I was here with a large party for which we had a set menu, therefore I am not entirely sure how extensive the menu is. But all of the many dishes that we were served were quite good and the service was very friendly and efficient - I never had to want for another beer! The decor of the restaurant is particularly lovely - especially in the “conservatory”. I would definitely return for a romantic dinner or with friends the next time I am in town.
Tower Bar - St. Pauli
Seewartenstraße 9, im Hotel Hafen Hamburg, 20459 Hamburg
20-03-2008
It seems to be unanimous - the views of Hamburg from the Tower Bar are unparalleled. Even if you cannot get a seat next to the windows (on a weekend), the place is small enough to be able to see the views from almost any seat - even the bar. This makes it worth a trip here even if it is for only one round of drinks.
The drinks are another story… They remind me of the cheesiest American bar in the world with Tom Cruise (see “Cocktail”), serving up drinks to loud and obnoxious music. Plenty of skewered fruit on hand. I also found the worlds worst cocktail here: beware of the St. Pauli Killer. It tastes like a mix of every liquor in the bar - plus 10% cleaning fluid. It’s not just strong, it’s disgusting. And I thought I would never find a mixed drink that I didn’t like…
Hotel Wedina - St. Georg
Gurlittstr. 23, 20099 Hamburg
19-03-2008
Hotel Wedina is a beautiful little jewel hidden away just off Lake Alster. The rooms are quite large and the bathrooms are amazing - with heated floor tiles and a huge bathtub (only in the Yellow building I think). Breakfast is served in the gorgeous inner garden. Only caveat: make sure you have plans in Hamburg before arriving as the hotel staff are not great at giving advice to tourists.
