I’ve never really understood the fuss about this place, though being Australian perhaps I am not as enamoured with the idea of putting Thai food in a pub which is quite common in Sydney.
The food is good not great, but it gets packed and it’s always really uncomfortable. For my money I would go to a Thai Restuarant and eat in less cramped conditions and then go to a pub after.
Sun In Splendour - Notting Hill

Great pub with a nice vibe especially out the back in summer.
Has a good wine list and is a nice place to meet friends after work.
Usually had a DJ on Carnival day too.

This is what a local bike shop should be like.
Helpful owner, understands you’ll keep coming back if he accommodates all your silly questions and requests.
I bought my Brompton here and it was a pleasure. He customised it for me and has offered a free first service.
Cannot recommend the place highly enough.
The Eagle - Shepherds Bush

This was a down at heel local pub which has been renovated and retained most of its charm.
It’s food is good, and there’s always plenty of room.
Perhaps the best attraction is the enormous garden in the summer.
The Thatched House - Hammersmith
115 Dalling Road, Hammersmith, London W6 0ET

Good pub, nice beer garden, cozy fire, wide-ranging menu and nice service.
The Thatched House has it all, and is a good place to go for lunch or after work drink.
It also has wireless so we have been known to perch there for an afternoon “brainstorming”.
Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.
Anglesea Arms - Hammersmith
35 Wingate Road, Hammersmith, London W6 0UR

The Anglesea Arms is a West London institution.
It’s got a cozy fire in winter and outdoor seating in summer.
The menu is quite gastro, expect a bit of game on the menu. It doesn’t have standard pub grub like bangers and mash for instance which I think is a good thing.
The food takes a while so perhaps don’t choose this place for a speedy lunch.
There’s a good wine list, and unlike the previous reviewer I’ve always found in the 6 years I have been going to this pub, the staff are fine, you just need to be friendly.
the butcher and grill - Battersea

This is a not so hidden gem in Battersea. I’ve only been there during the day but it’s a great place to meet work people for coffee or have a working breakfast. Plus you get to drool over the cuts of meat and the deli goods on the way in.
The staff are helpful and polite which makes a real difference.
The Fox and Hounds - Clapham

Love this pub. This is what a neighbourhood pub should be. Great food, hidden and decent sized beer garden. Big tables with room for groups, and hidden nooks and crannies for dates.
Apparently they have good Sunday roasts but I have never tried them.
The only criticism could be that sometimes when it’s busy two bar staff just aint enough.
In terms of the food, you can’t go past the Ragu Pasta, we go here often with friends and often all four of us order it, which is slightly embarassing. The duck is good too.
Actually even though I’m going there tonight, writing this is making me hungry!
Belgo Clapham - Clapham
44 High Street, Clapham, London SW4 7UR

I used to live up the street from this and frequented it often.
I really wanted to like it as it was so convenient, but I invariably left disappointed.
Disappointed that the Chicken didn’t really taste like anything, or the pudding which sounded so good was in fact also a little tasteless.
Don’t get me wrong, if you want mussels and frites then go, but if you venturing off piste with the menu, ask lots of questions and make sure it’s what you want.
Moving on from the food, it’s a good place to drink, loads of different beers and you can sit outside and smoke as long as you don’t mind some of the neighbourhood “characters” approaching you.
The Bread and Roses - Clapham

Great neighbourhood pub with non-annoying patrons, good food and nice outdoor spaces out the front and back.
There is a function room upstairs and you can book sections for parties/groups.
We went to a wedding here and it was fantastic, the staff were great and let the grooms run amok.
