Showcase Cinemas - Peterborough

Mallory Road, Boongate, Peterborough PE1 5AH

Update: I’ve been to the showcase a number of times since my original review and I have to say it has improved. Some of the screen rooms have been refurbed with new, better positioned seats, while all screens have digital projectors offering crisper pictures.

It was also clean each time. The decor could still do with an update and I still prefer cineworld, but the quality gap isn’t so big anymore.

This cinema is truly awful. Since it’s not easy to walk to, you’re much better off driving to cineworld at Huntingdon. A far better experience.

Shame really – if only the showcase was given an update, cleaned up and the screen rooms refurbished then it would be fine.

lemming5 this review is exremely accurate. this cinema was a revelation when it first opened over 20 years ago but has suffered from total negligence ever since. dirty, sticky, old fashioned and outdated, it needs a massive overhaul or better still, demolition. avoid.

suzyness I agree plus a complete rip for what it is. I'll stick to Stamford Arts Centre!

I’ve only had lunch here once so I can’t comment on what it’s like in the evening.

Coco’s have a £4.95 lunch offer which includes a starter (nachos), main meal and soft drink. The portions are fairly small, but about right for the price and for lunch it is probably just right. There are various items on the menu such as fajitas. Overall the food was ok – nothing amazing but certainly not poor.
I personally felt the staff were a bit quiet and not very friendly when taking orders or serving. However service was fairly quick so I didn’t mind too much.

Basically, for the price you can’t have too many complaints.

When it first opened, I really liked chiquitos, but the last three visits have consisted of dry, uninspiring food, long waits and poor service.

The staff are nice enough, but i waited for an hour for my food on one occasion.

If you do go, I’d stick with fajitas as they normally seem the best bet.

Can't account for some other reviews, but I've eaten here many times. I like it for what it is. It's decent diner-type food and, while not as good as OK Diner on the A1, it's much closer. I personally think breakfasts are better than evening meals. I've had dinner here twice and each time it was good. Really good portions and a good selection. The ribs are great as well as the milkshakes. I've always found the staff really friendly and the chef has been happy to cook the normal menu even when it was a specials night. It's obviously not the best stuff you'll ever have, but it's good, honest, tasty food.

It’s Nandos. Nuff said.

Misaki Restaurant - Peterborough

My favourite place to eat in the city. Misaki is great because it's the only Japanese restaurant in town (that I know of).
The staff are friendly and helpful if you're unsure of the menu. They normally check if you are okay to use chopsticks or not.

There's plenty to eat, but I'd recommend the ramen dishes for value, sheer quantity and pure tastiness. The spicy steak ramen took ages to get through and I was completely full after.

It would be good if more sushi was on offer, but that's a minor complaint.

More people should check this place out as it's a brilliant alternative to the usual curry or Chinese etc.

tictac132 No way! Seriously?! I was only in there a few weeks ago. Terrible news.

Joff Yep, sad times! I've tried calling on several occasions to see if anyone was in there that might be able to explain if they are going to reopen but had no luck :(

My favourite chippy in Werrington. Friendly staff, good prices, quick service and tasty food!
Never eaten inside, but it looks clean and perfectly adequate for a fish and chips lunch.

For its size this is a good leisure centre. It has a small, but modern gym. I've played squash and badminton here a few times and had no complaints. Although the outdoor all-weather pitches have been improved, the other outdoor facilities aren't great.

Otherwise, it's pretty decent.

Just like any other Domino's Pizza to be honest. Decent staff. Quick. But for what you get I think it's expensive.

Similar food to what they offer at Imperial Bentos and the like, just on a much smaller scale. It's a good thing really because the meals I've has each time I've been were very well cooked. i love Thai food and this place makes me like it even more.

The staff are really friendly and helpful. However, other than the staff I would say the atmosphere is not great. It depends what you're looking for. The venue is small so for couples the quiet surroundings may be ideal. Whereas each time I've been, it's been in a large group and I felt like we were almost overcrowding the place. It also felt like everyone could hear you whereas somewhere like Bentos this isn't an issue.

Overall definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed.
