Bombay Lounge - Swindon
Swindon SN5 5DJ
17-06-2009
Asked a mate of mine - a Swindon local - if he could recommend any decent restaurants in the town. He mentioned amongst the few that for a good curry I should try the Bombay Lounge over in Peatmoor Village centre.
So for a change from the mid week pub dinner me and the wife headed over.
Have to admit most curry houses these days seem to just heat up the curry mix and throw in tough old chicken and serve you poppadoms at extortionate prices so I was in the mindset this would be the same.
Have to admit I would go back.
We were asked to wait when we got in but whilst we did we were given free apertifs - a first in an Indian restaurant for me outside of Bristol.
The starter was ok, a little more would have been nice but we didn’t feel cheated.
The main I had chicken tikka madras and my wife had chicken tikka massala. Both dishes had tender chicken which came as a surprise, most curry houses I find seem to serve the toughest meat possible in the hope the heat from a curry will hide its poor quality.
The sag aloo I had seemed fresh but not sure if it had come in a “tub” or freshly made but I’d say more the latter to be honest.
The staff were friendly without being bothersome and I’d go back.
We paid £40 overall which was ok as we did order quite a bit plus 2 sets of drinks.
To round it off they did give us 2 baileys at no extra charge which I thought was a nice gesture.
Moda Hairdressing - Bishopston
205a Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8NN
17-06-2009
Happened to be in Gloucester Road, Bristol and desperate for a haircut and saw Moda so popped in to see if they could fit me in. Luckily they had a cancellation so only had to wait 20 minutes but the stylist did advise I should normally book ahead if I wanted to come back.
Soooo they cut my hair.
Well actually they did more than that.
They asked what I normally had and then made some suggestions on what a 36 year old man could do to his hair to make it look a lot better.
They took a brave step by saying I shouldn’t go for a grade 2 all over as they felt it didn’t suit me (funny my wifes been saying that for years!!!) as a businessman.
They got my hair cut bang on quite frankly. It looks smart and though not cut as short as I have had in the past 3 weeks later I’m still pleased with it. I add some gel and it looks great (Franco, my gents stylist was right).
The only downside to the haircut was the hair wash particularly towards the end the water went from hot to cold - the young lass washing my hair did ask if it was ok and as they were really pleasant I didn’t mention it to save embarrassment.
All in all a very friendly bunch who to me know how to style mens hair, plus the bonus for us blokes was that the stylist didn’t try to generate conversation the whole time so I felt pretty comfortable in the chair.
Overall I’d recommend them to my mates!
