I like to support independent shop rather than chain retailers whenever I can, so it pains me when I find that staff at independent retailers show no consideration for their customers.
I went to On Yer Bike London Bridge ONLY because I was passing it by on a leisurely ride, and only to get some advice regarding a problem I'd been experiencing with the rack on my bike; sometimes, my foot catches the paniers and I just wanted someone to have a look at it and make suggestions. I would happily have bought another rack or whatever. I was asked to bring the bike inside, then the youngish guy asked me to sit on the bike while he was holding it. For some reason, the idiot must have thought I looked hilarious and after an exchange with some bimbo that was obviously waiting for Mr Man to finish his shift, he simply walked away and left me there, stranded, in the middle of the shop! Laughing and giggling with the bimbo. Admitedly, I am no Victoria Pendleton, and maybe I look like a beached whale when I am on my bike, but laughing at people is surely no way to encourage more people to cycle, and quite honestly, I wish those people would realise that my money would go to pay their wages, even if I don't belong to the 'beautiful people' set.
Quite frankly, I would rather shop at Evans in Waterloo where no matter how busy they are, they always take the time to advise you and treat you with respect, whatever you look like!
